He asks several times if I have any questions and/or concerns. This time he asked if there was anything they could do to make the process better....and their actually wasn't. The key is, listen to the nurses and follow all the instructions they give you. I got a little tired of the phone calls, but I can imagine they have some clients who don't follow the instructions and make a mess during procedure time. I would have no qualms about getting here again in five years.

Before scheduling my colonoscopy, I had multiple conversations with the clinic about insurance coverage. I also contacted my insurance company, which told me a preventive colonoscopy would be covered at 100% with no copay, deductible, or prior authorization. I relayed that information back to the clinic and completed all of the required pre-procedure appointments and paperwork. At no point did anyone explain that the findings from my previous colonoscopy could change how this procedure would be billed or that I could end up owing nearly $1,400. After I received the bill, I was told for the first time that because polyps had been removed during my colonoscopy nine years earlier, this procedure was billed differently. That information was apparently known before my procedure but was never shared with me, despite my repeated questions about insurance coverage. I wrote a letter to the billing manager, never received a response, and was later told there was nothing they could do and that my account could receive fines and be sent to collections if I didn't pay. My advice to anyone scheduling a procedure here: don't rely on being told it's "covered." Ask for the CPT and diagnosis codes, ask specifically whether your medical history could change how your procedure is billed, and verify every possible billing scenario with your insurance company. I wish someone had given me that advice before I received a surprise bill.

I've been under the care of my cardiologist, Dr. Christopher Johnson, for a few years for some heart issues. During an angiogram he performed last February along with interventional cardiologist Patrick Goleski he discovered some arterial nastiness that could have become life threatening if not treated. Dr. Patrick Goleski performed the follow up angioplasty/stent implants last month and I can feel the difference. It was strange that morning entering the Bremerton Harrison Medical Center because I first had to verify I was a patient and not an employee, and then I was alone with the nurses in the surgery ward for two hours until Dr. Goleski and the surgical team walked in. About 90 minutes later when I was wheeled out of the OR there was one other patient waiting his turn. I had the pleasure of getting to know Dr. Goleski better in two follow up video visits. Without his face mask he has a warm smile and a humorous bu compassionate manner. He answered all my questions and gave me reassurances I could believe. The cardiology nurses who have called to check up on me and review different blood test results have been uniformly superb with their telephoneside manner and finding answers to my questions. Since the surgery, Dr. Johnson has answered questions I directed to him through the My Chart portal displaying his easygoing yet informative style. Before the surgery I hadn't really seen that much of him because Samantha Bylsma, PA-C, took over the handling of my care under the direction of Dr. Johnson. Sam and I truly have an interactive partnership where we discuss what the status of my heart and related issues (like blood pressure) are, she makes recommendations for my ongoing treatment and gets my agreement on all changes or what will just continue to be monitored. She's an exceptional physician to work with . I'm going to refrain from giving my opinions on the state of the business of medical care in this county. What I will emphasize is how fortunate I've been to be referred to the Bremerton office of HHP Cardiovascular Consultants and to the medical professionals who were assigned to handle my care. We were quickly seen and evaluated by Dr. Yousaf who recommended a second consultation with a cardiac electrophysiologist and discontinuing a medication that was causing side effects and not necessarily helping. He approached the situation with a thorough yet keep things simple approach. He was as well willing to try an alternative approach- magnesium, A year later my husband's rhythm has returned to normal- my husband's pulse demonstrated constant bigeminy. No ablation was required. Today we met with Dr. Yousaf and he reviewed my husband's case and determined some follow up studies were required - very appropriate - to ensure that the rhythm indeed has returned to normal. Care thorough, listens, quality of care outstanding and his office staff are very professional and personable. Out on my daily 3 mile run at a new location I decided to finish the last 1/2 mile in a "sprint"…read more About a quarter mile later I tripped on a patch of exposed large tree roots and fell forward onto several random protruding roots. I spent a week in patient while they ran comprehensive batteries of X-Rays, CT's, and various MRI's. They imaged every affected body part in every image spectrum possible. I was very impressed by the professionalism and compassion of every single staff person I interacted with. Being in my late 60's and very independent I was not accustomed to this level of care. From the talented physicians, to the nurses, and all the other staff, I was always comforted they had my best interest in mind, even if I did not always agree with them. Once all testing was done and they could make a detailed report, I was released with much better news than expected. I was able to immediately download every test from their patient portal. This is especially helpful for my provider at the VA to review, so we can now discuss a plan moving forward. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality fresh meals, which were brought to the room still very warm. The best review I can give is to declare that I will always go to Providence in any future emergency issues. Hopefully I'll never be back, but if I do return, I know that I'll be in good hands. I highly recommend this hospital.

Severe communication breakdown and lack of empathy for a critical care family…read more ​Our family's experience with Providence St. Peter Hospital has been deeply distressing during an already terrifying time. My 83-year-old grandmother was recently T-boned in a severe car accident, suffering eight broken bones, and was only just moved out of critical care. ​She managed to call me from her room, but the phone was disconnected. When I immediately called back to reconnect with her, I faced an absolute wall of bureaucratic incompetence and zero empathy. First, the staff claimed they had no idea who I was talking about. Once they finally recognized her name, they flatly refused to transfer me to her room or provide any explanation as to why. ​To prevent a family member from speaking to an elderly, severely injured patient who just initiated contact is completely unacceptable. The extreme lack of coordination between units and the rigid, unhelpful attitude of the staff turned a medical crisis into an agonizing, aggravating ordeal. St. Peter's leadership seriously needs to address how their staff handles communication with worried families. Frontline staff need training on basic empathy and how to properly locate transferred patients instead of just shutting families out.
