Every five years I get to to see the Dr. Heap twice. Once for my previsit and once for my…read moreprocedure. I have always felt Dr. Heap has given me all the time I have needed/wanted for my visit. He asks several times if I have any questions and/or concerns. This time he asked if there was anything they could do to make the process better....and their actually wasn't. The key is, listen to the nurses and follow all the instructions they give you. I got a little tired of the phone calls, but I can imagine they have some clients who don't follow the instructions and make a mess during procedure time. I would have no qualms about getting here again in five years.

Buyer Beware! My experience with Olympia Multi-Specialty Clinic wasn't about the quality of the…read moremedical care--it was about the complete lack of billing transparency. Before scheduling my colonoscopy, I had multiple conversations with the clinic about insurance coverage. I also contacted my insurance company, which told me a preventive colonoscopy would be covered at 100% with no copay, deductible, or prior authorization. I relayed that information back to the clinic and completed all of the required pre-procedure appointments and paperwork. At no point did anyone explain that the findings from my previous colonoscopy could change how this procedure would be billed or that I could end up owing nearly $1,400. After I received the bill, I was told for the first time that because polyps had been removed during my colonoscopy nine years earlier, this procedure was billed differently. That information was apparently known before my procedure but was never shared with me, despite my repeated questions about insurance coverage. I wrote a letter to the billing manager, never received a response, and was later told there was nothing they could do and that my account could receive fines and be sent to collections if I didn't pay. My advice to anyone scheduling a procedure here: don't rely on being told it's "covered." Ask for the CPT and diagnosis codes, ask specifically whether your medical history could change how your procedure is billed, and verify every possible billing scenario with your insurance company. I wish someone had given me that advice before I received a surprise bill.

This is a heartfelt review of the cardiovascular physicians, surgeons and nurses in this fine…read moredepartment. I've been under the care of my cardiologist, Dr. Christopher Johnson, for a few years for some heart issues. During an angiogram he performed last February along with interventional cardiologist Patrick Goleski he discovered some arterial nastiness that could have become life threatening if not treated. Dr. Patrick Goleski performed the follow up angioplasty/stent implants last month and I can feel the difference. It was strange that morning entering the Bremerton Harrison Medical Center because I first had to verify I was a patient and not an employee, and then I was alone with the nurses in the surgery ward for two hours until Dr. Goleski and the surgical team walked in. About 90 minutes later when I was wheeled out of the OR there was one other patient waiting his turn. I had the pleasure of getting to know Dr. Goleski better in two follow up video visits. Without his face mask he has a warm smile and a humorous bu compassionate manner. He answered all my questions and gave me reassurances I could believe. The cardiology nurses who have called to check up on me and review different blood test results have been uniformly superb with their telephoneside manner and finding answers to my questions. Since the surgery, Dr. Johnson has answered questions I directed to him through the My Chart portal displaying his easygoing yet informative style. Before the surgery I hadn't really seen that much of him because Samantha Bylsma, PA-C, took over the handling of my care under the direction of Dr. Johnson. Sam and I truly have an interactive partnership where we discuss what the status of my heart and related issues (like blood pressure) are, she makes recommendations for my ongoing treatment and gets my agreement on all changes or what will just continue to be monitored. She's an exceptional physician to work with . I'm going to refrain from giving my opinions on the state of the business of medical care in this county. What I will emphasize is how fortunate I've been to be referred to the Bremerton office of HHP Cardiovascular Consultants and to the medical professionals who were assigned to handle my care. Would I recommend this office to others? In a heartbeat...

Called a few weeks ago to schedule an…read moreappointment and admittedly the hold time was pretty long, but once I got on the phone, they were able to offer me an appointment time that worked for my schedule. Arrive today about five minutes before my appointment time and checked in... The front desk staff was very kind and verified my information and appointment time. I waited about five or six minutes before I was called back for my appointment. The nurse was kind and introduced herself, and explained the process to me. She was extremely efficient, letting me know she just needed access to my rib cage and my upper chest so unless I wanted to, there was no reason to undress as long as I could roll up my shirt. She explained about lightly exfoliating my skin, and why it was necessary before doing it, which was very helpful. I can understand how might be surprising or distressing for someone who is not expecting it. The EKG itself took less than five minutes, and once that was completed, I waited for a nurse to discuss my results with me. That wait was also less than five minutes and the nurse that came in was kind, respectful, informative, and double checked my reason for getting the EKG and the provider that it was supposed to be faxed to. He explained that the EKG would be reviewed one last time by another doctor to verify the results and then would be signed and faxed off to my provider. Overall, I had a very positive experience. The office itself is a little bit outdated, but other than that - which doesn't affect my actual care - I would say this is a five star experience. I very much appreciate efficiency and accuracy, as well as the ease of scheduling.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience trying to contact Pulse Heart Institute in Puyallup…read more I called to schedule an appointment for my 87-year-old grandmother, whom I personally care for, after she was referred to their office for cardiac care. My first call resulted in me being on hold for **50 minutes**, only to be disconnected. I called back and was placed on hold for another **27 minutes**, and that call was also dropped. I am now calling for a third time and was told that I am **number 28 in the call queue**. This level of service is incredibly disheartening--no pun intended--especially when we are talking about patients with heart conditions who are being referred to your facility for care. What makes this even more concerning is that there is **no hold music, message, or indication that the call is still connected**. You are simply sitting in silence for an extended period of time. If you are an elderly patient who doesn't have a smartphone that alerts you when a call has disconnected, you could easily sit there waiting without even realizing you've been disconnected. That is not an acceptable experience for patients trying to access healthcare. I completely understand that healthcare facilities can experience staffing shortages and high call volumes, but this goes beyond simply being busy. Patients and caregivers should not have to spend nearly two hours repeatedly trying to get through just to schedule an appointment. I truly hope Pulse Heart Institute addresses this issue for the sake of the many patients--especially elderly and vulnerable patients--who are being referred there for cardiac care. **Pulse Heart Institute, please DO BETTER.** Patients deserve better access, communication, and consideration when they are trying to receive care.

I am aware that the doctors themselves are talented, as well as the nurses. Dr. Segerson is well thought of, and his nurse is a fine nurse. So I have no issue there; they're good doctors as far as i know. My issue is how their front office staff is snippy, and how you have to call them and stay on them to get basic information. As the cliche goes, you have to be your own health care advocate, but I had an experience of being treated nastily for being my own health care advocate. I called and found out that an appointment for some complicated procedure had been scheduled for me, without my knowledge, and when I started asking questions, the receptionist hung up on me. I experienced that as disrespectful of someone who has a life-threatening health problem (atrial fibrillation), and was simply trying to get information about their own care. That was one of the moments when you know that as a patient, you're a piece of meat being processed at the meat-processing facility.

We were referred here, I think because the Overlake name impressed someone. Don't be impressed. The…read moreOverlake Cardiology Clinic is the most ghetto doctor's office we've been to in a long time. My husband had major open-heart surgery at UW Medical Center last week. We got out of the hospital yesterday after 6 days. They wanted us to follow up today to adjust the new medication and I wanted us to stay on the Eastside because it's so much closer. If it was a single-story building, you'd swear you were in a trailer. The whole place is CARPETED... OK, I can see that in a waiting room, but how on earth do you keep carpeted exam and procedure rooms clean? You don't. Even the RESTROOM is carpeted... I think that's disgusting in a home, never mind in a doctor's office!! How many years of pee splashes into carpet are acceptable? Really? The room was cramped and it was clear that none of the hard surfaces are wiped down regularly. The hand-washing sink was BONE DRY, and the soap dispenser, plain old Softsoap, looked undisturbed. There was a cotton ball with blood on it discarded on the floor, clearly visible. WTF? The nurse came in, all "ma'am" and "sir" -- that's OK once, but unless you are three years old, you do not need to start or end each of your sentences with that word. I understand when you are speaking to me. She set up and ran an EKG, putting the sensor stickies on John with her bare hands (no gloves) without cleaning the sites first with an alcohol prep pad. The walls in this clinic are so thin that HIPPA is a complete joke. You can hear ALL of the conversation in the exam room next to you. (This becomes more important in just a moment). My husband has a long incision over the sternum bone, which they cut open to access his heart; he also has two large surgical-drain incisions, several tiny ones through which instruments were passed, a central-line incision on his neck, and more IV- and blood draw-puncture wounds than I care to think about. These incisions are NOT yet healed and since he's a diabetic, there's an especially high risk of infection. Dr. Holder finished up in the exam room next to us, wished them a good day, walked out, entered our exam room without even knocking, and offered to shake my husband's hand. John pretended not to notice, looking him in the eye instead. The doctor proceeded to ask a ton of health-history questions, the vast majority answered on the intake paperwork I'd just filled out. Dr. Holder is somewhat hard of hearing, and my husband, not feeling well at all after being kept waiting for 45 minutes (we were 10 minutes early), started saying "Fine" or "OK" after the doctor would ask him to repeat his initial longish, detailed answer. Here's the kicker though (and the reason we're going to report him to the Health Department). Dr. Holder didn't wash his hands before he went to examine my husband. He didn't put on gloves. He didn't even use sanitizer gel. I stopped him by saying, "I don't mean any disrespect, but you need to wash your hands first". Dr. Holder replied, "We have facilities outside the rooms, and I used it before I came in." This was a direct and obvious LIE. We didn't hear him run water, use a paper towel; we didn't see his wet hands and said paper towel; we didn't see him rubbing sanitizer gel, nor did we hear him activate the dispenser. He then said, "You're right, you shouldn't let anyone touch him without washing their hands first." He stepped out of the room, KA-CHUNK got some hand sanitizer gel, and came into the room rubbing it all over his hands. The alcohol vapors were overwhelming... how did we miss the ones he'd presumably created mere minutes before? He examined my husband, again, without gloves, something that ABSOLUTELY would not have happened at UW. He made all sorts of pronouncements about my husband's condition, some correct and some incorrect. He didn't recognize the manufacturer of John's mechanical aortic valve, ATS Medical, maker of the second-most popular replacement valve. He went to use his stethoscope on John: I raised my eyebrows and pointed to the sink; glaring at me, he went back into the hallway, got some hand-sanitizer gel to rub on the stethoscope, drying it off on a paper towel before continuing. In the end, his demeanor was mostly kindly, but he is past the prime of his career (he is 69). His clinic is shoddy and unsanitary. He is hard enough of hearing that I don't see how his stethoscope work will be as accurate as that of someone with full hearing function. I wouldn't let him anywhere near me to do surgery, and given that a lot of cardiology is life or death, we are crystal-clear that he is not even going to get the chance to TALK to us again. We're going back to the UW system where hand-washing, gloves, gel in/gel out, equipment and room cleaning procedures are all clear, posted, and followed without a second thought as they should be!
