Moldy coffee maker
Enoch M.

Is there a half star rating? I got here for school and the check in was quick and simple. The room on the other hand was filthy. The first thing I noticed was the broken hinge on the closet door, no big deal. Well the toilet had actual crap in it. Pretty gross huh, it gets better. Hair in the shower, yep you know what kind. The shower doesn't drain completely so there's always a puddle. The main room smelled funky and I'm pretty sure I got a rash on my arm after sleeping in the bed. I went to make coffee the next morning and low and behold, my coffee maker has a knack old moldy coffee packet in it. I can't make this stuff up. If you have a choice, don't stay here. Also, it's very inconvenient unless you're on the first floor, there are no elevators.

Where should I start, the price isn't bad but I guess you get what you pay for. The room was dirty. We found pubic hair on the blanket on one of the beds. We have been finding finger nails around the room that don't belong to us. When I checked in I gave them my credit card but for some reason they didn't charge it. So I had to drive back over to the office for them to charge me for the room. But when they called to inform me they didn't charge me, they acted like it was my fault and I was trying to get over on them. So I go to the office to pay and I asked if I needed the room longer would that be ok, well they took it as I was checking out. So they checked me out. I get a knock on the door asking why I was still here. So a few minutes later I get another call from the front desk asking why I told them I was checking out and didn't leave. Even though they didn't take the keys from me they blamed me for saying I was leaving. So once again I had to drive over to the office and pay them again and get my keys fixed to let me in my room. It's been a pain to stay here and the room was dirty. Pubic hair on the blanket is pretty nasty.

The bed post was just laying on my bed

I'm going to go right ahead and say it, some of the surrounding areas and hotels/inns near Fort…read moreMoore are a wee bit sketch in my opinion. I say that with all politeness but I wouldn't be being fully transparent if I didn't mention it. If you are new to the area and looking for a place to stay nearby, this Hampton Inn location is an excellent decision. When I told my son we'd grab a place to stay 2minutes from the base the evening before he was set to report back at 6a, he wasn't overly thrilled. I assured him it looked ok from my research. As soon as he realized it was next door to the Infantry Museum he knew it was ok. The staff were very friendly. We slept well at night. The hotel has a pool and serves a hot breakfast in the morning. They have a small military discount and while I haven't stayed at anything on the base I can confidently say this is a safe and great place to stay if you're looking to be nearby. If you're traveling as a family, the pool and brekke options may be especially nice. Had I known there was a pool sooner, I think we would have spent a bit of time out there. Perfect for summer stays! They had cookies out at night and I spotted grab and go style lunch/snack packs during the day, in addition to coffee/tea/hot cocoa out 24/7. They have small refrigerators in the room (no freezer) we did root beer floats for dessert but ended up needing to toss our ice-cream as we wouldn't be able to freeze it. Plenty of safe, lit parking in large lot out front. I mention this as we had two cars (a rental and his car we'd have transported to Columbus) full of my sons belongings and I really wanted to ensure that his items were safe overnight. Exceptional waffle maker at the breakfast buffet! Made the most perfectly crisp waffle :) Clean, comfy and caring. You're in good hands here.

It is located about 1.5 miles from the visitors center. It is clean and well staffed. The breakfast was standard fare in eggs and sausages but was well received. Inside, the front desk area is clean and has a nice glass waterfall. Behind that is the breakfast area with a TV and beside that is another seating area with another TV. The elevator looks clean and modern. Near the elevator, on each floor, is the vending machine and ice machine. Onto the room: Clean and easily livable. Oddly, there were a bunch of lady bugs in my room, but I didn't really mind. Some nice friends to enjoy the room with. TV has cable channels. Iron and ironing board in each room. Internet was strong in my room. Bathroom had some dark spots (moldish-dirtiness) in the crevices, but oh well, any bathroom would have that and it's not like I'm touching it. Breakfast is complimentary, which is great. Teas, coffees, juices, milk, cereal, yogurt, oatmeal, waffles, sausages, cinnamon buns, english muffins, eggs, bagels, apples/bananas. Lots of the typical breakfast foods. If I'm in the area again, I'd consider staying here again. Plenty of military guests were there when I was there too.

When I went into the bathroom to wash my hands, I immediately noticed a stained and unclean towel so I decided to check a few more. There were several towels that were obviously nasty which left me with an uncomfortable feeling about the cleanliness of our room. I called downstairs and asked to speak with the manager and the receptionist (Carlin) said he was in a meeting and asked what she could help me with so I started explaining to her about the stained/nasty towels hanging in our bathroom. Suddenly the phone clicked out, so, I called back to the front desk in a matter of seconds and the manager (Mr. Alex, an Indian man) answered however, I could here the lady talking to him in the background. The manager said that they've been having big problems with the phone whereas it'll just cut off. I told him to let me hold on the phone while the receptionist (Carlin) tell him what my complaint was. He asked me what the problem was and I said to him if the phone is gonna keep turning off then let me hold on while Carlin explained to him about my concern. Nonetheless, he wasn't listening and was very rude. I told Mr. Alex that I was running out of time to prepare for my pick so we simply ended the call. In addition to the nasty towels, there was a red shirt left in the drawer that had something about abortions on it. Those issues were clear indicators that the room had not been properly cleaned or sanitized. At that point my husband and I would've checked out but it was the week for military graduations and all of the hotels were fully booked. We sanitized the room ourselves with OdoBan, Lysol and Clorox wipes. We thought to also go to a local store to simply purchase our own towels. Taking into account of Covid, germs, and other viruses that's around nowadays, cleanliness along with sanitation should be first and foremost however, at this location it's obviously not their concern. This Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Columbus/Fort Benning, 3901 Victory Dr, Columbus, Georgia is NOT the norm for the well known hotel chain. I will NEVER, EVER reserve this hotel again, nor will I recommend it to anyone. Whoever is the Lead for housekeeping ought to be fired along with the manager (Mr. Alex). This particular hotel sets a terrible example for the Holiday Inn Express chain. When visiting Columbus, Georgia it would behoove visitors not to reserve a room at this hotel and seek accomandations elsewhere in order to be safe. Stay here at your own risk!!!

There is an obvious price difference between the two but they are located "next" to each other. And by next I mean you need to drive there and you can't really walk there. It's a 10 minute walk or three minute drive. Check in is at Abrams Hall. Abrams is where the money is made so it's where the focus is. The contentinental breakfast at Abrams is better. The rooms are nicer and cleaner at Abrams. However if you have a pet, you'll have to stay at Gavin. Abrams only has one bed in each room so that's another factor. Gavin hall has rooms with one bed or two beds. The rooms with two beds have a small, separate living room with couch and two televisions. Neither hotel areas have a dining table or real eating area. Gavin Hall for me just didn't cut it. We did stay there but then ended up switching to Abrams. The bed was so squeaky we couldn't even sleep at night. The next room we switched to had a metal piece sticking out from the bed and cut one child's leg and bruised the other child in four places. Laundry is free here. The rooms are not spotless. If you looked behind doors or in closets or doors you could see dirt or walls with a build up of filth. But seriously it's $74 so you are getting what you pay for. Ultimately this place is convenient. If you're staying on base to visit someone who is already on base, Ft Benning is so huge that staying off base adds a good 20 min to your travel time. It's kind of like the Motel 6 for on base travel. Affordable, convenient, and matching the price.

If you're used to a plush mattress, this one isn't going to cut it for you. There was a neat little surge protector thing screwed to the night stand, which I thought was awesome because it had USB ports built in....but they didnt work. There was a wall outlet fairly convenient for my laptop, and I leeched my cell phone off of that. The regular chair was a little disturbing, stains and had a faint smell. The desk chair was great, so I sat there instead. On the plus side: The price was VERY reasonable, especially with a Veterans Discount. The pillows were great, just the right size and thickness The WiFi was fairly strong and constant. The TV was clear and decent size. Water pressure was amazing! I Think it blew some of my skin off! The shower head was plenty high, but needed some TLC. All in all, I'd recommend this hotel to pretty much anyone that needs an overnight in Columbus. *If you're planning to stay here for a visit to the Infantry Museum, be aware it's closed on Monday...I wasnt :(

I know it's a…read morecheap place and I shouldn't expect much but there should be some minimum acceptable standard. First off, the other reviewer is talking about a completely different place over near Savannah. This place doesn't have a buffet and even if it did you wouldn't want it. First off they advertise a Pool and COLOR Cable TV. Can you call it a pool if there's no water in it? The Registration/Check-in was just nasty. I should have turned around. There's a mangy cat on the counter licking itself and the guy behind the counter no kidding has no more than four upper teeth and a speech impediment. He wanted a $50.00 deposit on the room! The nightly rate wasn't $50.00! It didn't get better at the room. The door knob on the door was close to falling off. No point in locking it, just take the knob off. There wasn't much inside to steal anyway. Yes, they have Color Cable TV On a 17" TV with a tube, not flat screen. The cable must have been new because the Rabbit Ears antenna was still on the top of the set. No remote and it was bolted to the dresser. I asked for a single bed because it was just me down here for the week. I should have gotten a double to provide adequate accommodations to the cock roaches running around. I call base housing and make arrangements to spend the week. Had to use my cell because there wasn't a phone. Actually there was one and it looked like someone threw it at a wall. Either way, no dialtone. I'm good now. Got arrangements at the base, didn't even unpack. Step into the restroom before driving down to Benning and there is a LARGE dead rat in the toilet. It either drowned or died from the toxins in the water. Apparenly "housekeeping" didn't notice. Do you flush it? I decided to hold off until I checked in at Benning. Good thing because the last person to use the restroom wiped with the toilet paper but didn't take it off the roll first! So nasty. No shower curtain so the water apparently went everywhere, causing significant mold growth. Back up front, I toss the keys over the counter and let the guy know I'm not staying in this place. Not even moving to another room. I'd rather sleep in the middle of Victory Drive and take my chances. He argues about refunding the money while an argument goes down in the parking lot outside that leads me to believe gunfire isn't far away. We go back and fourth and I finally get my money. Step out and the two dudes that were arguing are literally beating the crap out of each other. Like UFC type beating. I pull out and make a left as a squad car pulls into the lot. Not sure who called them but they didn't call from my room. No mas.

Wow, what a tip!! I stopped at this place on I-95 while returning to New York the other day for lunch. It is basically a motel dining room buffet so you enter through the motel entrance. Met by a lovely southern accented hostess we payed our $16 (for the both of us!!!) and proceed to the buffet table. This amazing buffet had Fried chicken, baked chicken, sausage, chitlins, beef stew, stewed chicken, barbecued pork, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, string beans, butter beans, black eyed peas, collard greens, corn bread and biscuits as well as a few other things (so many on this buffet, I forgot). The fried chicken, mostly dark meat and wings, was moist and tender with a fantastic crunchy coating. The sausages were nice and spicy, baked chicken thigh, flavorful and all the extras were hot and delicious. The return to the buffet for dessert was a treat with three types of cobblers, a number of cakes and pies as well as banana pudding. The standout was the peach cobbler with the best and flakiest crust I ever tasted!! Our waitress never stopped filling our glasses with delicious sweet tea as well. So, if you find yourself on I-95 heading for your destination and feel a little hunger pang coming on make this another destination. It's worth the stop.
