Nothing is less fun than having a toilet that won't flush and water backing up into the shower…read morebasin in an 80 year old cottage. I called another service (not Dave) and they recommended that I have the cesspool pumped. Their guy came by and told me the cesspool was basically empty and that there was no point in pumping it. He called his dispatcher and scheduled a drain clean out (basically a roto rooter). I waited a couple of hours to find out when the service would be scheduled and decided to call Dave to see if someone else could get here sooner. (Did I mention that the non-flushing toilet was making the cottage smell like an outhouse?) Dave came by after he finished a job - about an hour - opened the cesspool, looked at the pipe, and diagnosed that the pipe needed to be replaced because 1) asphalt pipe in 2) old house. Did some research on the side: "before the 1960s, bell and spigot sewer pipe joints were often sealed with oakum (asphalt saturated hemp fiber) and cement mortar. These joints were assumed to have a lifetime of 25 to 30 years, after which the joint sealant would result in leaks." Once the leaks start, plant roots invade the pipe and stuff stops going through. Dave observed that you could possibly clear out the roots, but the problem would just keep coming back. So my roto-rooter quote was almost $400 and replacing the pipe would be a little over twice that. I'm not into half-assed fixes, so I went with Dave's diagnosis. He came the next day and replaced the old sewer "lateral" with PVC pipe that won't let roots in. The old pipe had so many roots in it you couldn't see through it. Problem solved! When you call a professional you expect them to have the experience and knowledge to fix the problem and not to just treat the symptoms when the problem will just keep coming back. Dave's a plumber who knows his stuff. He works fast and his prices are fair. Hence I'm going out of my way to give him a review since I appreciate that my plumbing problem is fixed, not just postponed.

OK, thanks Dave for all the help getting the cottage back in great shape. We appreciate it!…read moreJenn & Sean

I originally thought very highly of EF Winslow in Yarmouth…read more They had installed a new toilet earlier this year and all went great. I then bought a dishwasher and needed it installed. I was told an hourly rate over the phone which I was ok with. The tech was fine and did his job but the install took less than 1 hour tops. No bill was sent to me and the only way I knew of the overcharge was when my cc was charged 2.5 months later. I was told of the charges butno paper sent and had to ask for a delayed bill via email? Turns out, I was charged 2x the amount of labor time by ef winslow. I believe the tech sat out front in my complex and and charged me for 1 hour of labor- 139 per 1/2 hour so an extra $278 of erroneous labor. I spoke to Arnold and although I thought he was helpful he would only issue a store credit for 1 1/2 time slot and I was told they don't issue store credits back to customers on ccs. Only store credits for future work scheduled so you don't get your $ back. This means that in order to get my $ back I will need to work with these folks again....not appropriate. If you have a credit card machine and you charge people you can credit them. Im.not recommending EF Winslow due to their poor billing practices, lack of staying on budget and then not correctly rectifying the billing issue. They probably have lost a client they had after their first work with me. Don't do any work without them providing a written estimate or buyer be aware they will overcharge you.

Wish there was a "zero stars" option…read more Terrible customer service. Rude & abusive staff from technicians to head of finance. I just got off the phone w/ that guy. They sent me a bill "120 days past due" for a preventative maintence contract I never established. His explanation was that the contract is w/ the address... not the owner...? How does an address start a contract.. & how, then, was the bill/acct in my name, if the contract was with the previous owner? He spoke over me the entire conversation. Could not get one full sentence out... then had the audacity, after I finally got a few words out to say ".. well, if you had just said that in the beginning..." Very rude, ignorant man. Previous incidents had left me frustrated, but I was a renter at the time & had no control over the choice of service provider. One tech showed up 2 hours AFTER the four hour window I had been given for the appt & then became verbally abusive with me bc I said it was too late & I was on my way out the door. I called the office & didn't even lodge any kind of complaint, just asked that that particular tech not be assigned to my address again. The woman said she would make a note on the acct. He was sent again, the following week. Laughed at me, when I expressed surprise he was there. When I called the office, the woman denied that anyone there would agree to such a note & didn't care about the poor treatment. Simply said techs are assigned according to the job & availability, period. Another tech appeared to have a psychotic break in my basement during a simple preventative maintence call (ordered by the previous owner). He was down there banging & clanging things, LOUDLY swearing & yelling at himself & the heating unit. I had told him on the way in that there was a 3rd shift worker sleeping in the house & asked him, to the best of his ability, to keep noise to a minimum. It sounded like he was fighting w/ someone & throwing things. I went down to inquire & he was spiraling out, literally tantruming. Said he broke a part & he'd have to come back. When he did, the same behavior continued. I was so concerned, I haven't allowed anyone from their company in my home since... & certainly never will again. When I've shared this w/ other community members, they say things like, "Yeah, they've really gone down hill." I've had dealings w/ them for over 15 years. I've never seen anything BUT poor service & performance... & deplorable customer relations across the board.
