I wanted to take my niece out to celebrate her getting into law school and was looking for an upscale restaurant. After hours of research and starting to get discouraged that there weren't any great spots in the Oakville area, we finally found this spot. I am glad we did, we had a wonderful meal here. They have cuts of high-end steak and we thoroughly enjoyed the A5 wagyu steaks. The Black Tijima was delish and the Snake River farm steak was only slightly lower on the taste chart. Their fresh bread and artichoke amuse bouche were good. Armando was our waiter and was super friendly and helpful. The cheesecake dulce de leche was awesome and a perfect end to a great meal. read more

When dining never felt so good * My first meal after lockdown was at @olivers_steakhouse in Oakville, and let me tell you, it was such a good choice. Although I don't mind doing take-out, there's just something about dining in that I love. The food was phenomenal here. Had a few dishes from their menu and everything was executed perfectly. The service was impeccable, the food was delicious, and there was a nice calm ambience. Overall the entire experience upset my group. We had a child present and didn't think to ask if she should be taken care of first. Then when the manager came to drop off cutlery we all saw him touch extremely close to the mouth end of the forks and spoons. This is a huge faux pas regarding fine service. If you're in a fine dining establishment and you're wearing gloves to touch the plates and touch the mouth-end of cutlery it completely misses the point. They have the superficial levels of fine dining taken care of but miss the finer details for someone who knows how and where to look. Careless level of service from the manager which ruined the food experience. We asked where the food was and the manager just walked in the other direction. Shameful. Only person who acknowledged the party was the server assistant. For a VERY high price point, I expect these details to be taken care of. The entire party left upset. Find someone new to run the restaurant. Not worth your time. Don't trust anything 4.4 stars and below. This place is no exception. read more

Being a Meat-Eater & proud carnivore, i had high hopes for this steakhouse.! The prices were UNBELIEVABLY high! But decided to give it a shot. The pros were: Ambiance was great. Got great seats next to the window. So it looked beautiful. Certain members of the staff were attentive They had halal options (but in steaks, nothing less than $100 minimum - wagyu!) The crisp crackers (in the bread plate) at the start were great! The Shrimp cocktail's SAUCE was delicious The lamb shank was good Cons: The waiter kept leaving and we never saw him for quite some time afterwards The bread was not good. At all! It was hard, cold and TWO pieces for FOUR PEOPLE For $5 i had about 3 sips of coke. :( and it wasn't even a standard size. It was smaller! The Wait time for food was unreasonable! We waited nearly TWO HOURS for our food once ordered. The place was almost completely empty and THEN our food came out. The steak i received was very undercooked. To the point that it was still cold and the fat was still white and barely cooked (I ordered medium. But recieved Half medium, and Half Rare :/ .. very odd!) The carpaccio was ok. Expected more. The best part (sarcasm): my spouse and i got Very Unwell! Immediately afterwards!! I don't think i need to dive into details and im sure we all know what that could be All in all, for $300, it was NOT worth the price and experience. Once again, I hosted a dinner at Oliver's. The staff at Oliver's are some of the most professional staff's that I have dealt with. They make a great selection of drinks, wine, and food. Service is always first class, and the food is simply outrageous. Will return next time I'm in Oakland. read more

Mighty fine steak house in Oakville. No need to go to TO when we have such fine dining right here! Busy place on a Saturday night and we were seated promptly (made a reservation). Best old fashioned and a decent virgin Caesar. Apps of oysters, Caesar salad, and grilled octopus was delish. Most tender octopus I've ever had! Steak and surf and turf mains were spot on as was the desserts that we just had to have. Attentive service from friendly gentlemen. It was a disappointment. First, I have eaten at Geranium in Copenhagen, and many Michelin star restaurants and fine dining establishments, so its not my first rodeo in a high end restaurant. A $98.00 steak, is ridiculous, and my dinner companions thought it was very good, but not the best steak they have had. have had just as good at other steakhouses. $20.00 for asparagus, crazy, and glasses of wine $38.00. Incredibly overpriced for what you get. My Capellini was the blandest pasta I have ever had. Certainly not what the server described it to be, and I honestly think they forgot some type of sauce for it. IF they had come back to check on us to see what we thought, I would have told them. The gnocchi was to die for. Pillowy, light and a great sauce. Hands down the winner of the evening. If you want an incredibly overpriced steak house, go there. But otherwise, it will be my one and only time at Olivers. read more

I was very surprised that an upscale restaurant like Oliver's, would be offering a coupon on wagjag, they were offering a five course tasting menu for two, priced at $120.00. I guess it's better to fill seats in the middle of winter.I am actually a restaurant manager and have managed several fine dining restaurants in the UK and NYC and I am only too familiar with servers not liking coupons, as I guess they feel that that do not get tipped on the full amount and the cliche is, people that use coupons are cheap. But the servers are not the ones paying that steep lakeshore road rent are they? I think that a tasting menu is a nice introduction to attract new customers. I purchased the deal for my sisters 60th birthday as a treat. I wanted everything to be perfect. I called the restaurant a few times, prior to our reservation to ask them what they did for birthdays, and inquire about their wine list. The deal on Wagjag was for 2 or 4 people ( We were a party of 3) I arranged to pay for the third person on site. On the actual night of the reservation, we were running late and called to let them know, as I was driving from Lewiston NY, to meet my family that live in Oakville. the border was a little busy, and it's annoying when people stroll in late without a courtesy call.On arrival, the place looked stunning and we were given a beautiful window seat. The sommelier came over and took our wine order, and we fished out the two wagjag coupons and handled them to our server immediately, as even though, we had read the fine print and restrictions. being in the business myself I wanted to be safe. There was a table of four directly behind us. We were just getting settled and happily sipping on our wine and admiring the decor, when the server, acting manager and Sommelier ( ALL THREE OF THEM) Approached the table waving the vouchers at us saying they would not scan and we would have to call wagjag.( Why was it our job to call Wagjag?) Surely this is something between the restaurant and wagjag? My sister looked as if she was about to burst into tears and my nephew looked mortified as the table behind us were staring at us like we were criminals! I said to the server " Wagjag is closed their hours are 9-6 Monday -Friday "We can prove that we paid, I can show you our email receipt" The sommelier then chimes in and says " You have a couple of choices pay for the wine and leave, or order from the regular menu" We have had at least 15 wagjag coupons tonight and they have all scanned perfectly, and wagjag will not pay us if they do not scan. We were left speechless, and really shocked as all three of them left the table, I mean we had already paid wagjag, why should we order from the regular menu? Their attitude was ""Sort it with Wagjag" After a few minutes, the acting manager( The nicest of the three) Approached the table, and said " We have decided to honor the coupon even though we probably won't get paid" It was a real damper on the evening. Even though it was discounted we still spent over three hundred dollars and the food was amazing!! My guess is, they had a restaurant full of coupons and people drinking tap water and did not get tipped well!! I am usually a big tipper and leave 20 percent even if the service is mediocre. The three dinners, wine and tax came to $270.00 I normally would have left at least $60. I gave them a $30 tip because of the embarrassment and upset they caused on a 60th birthday!! For such a classy establishment you would think they would have known better.. read more

Great surprise! In Oakville on business and was walking past the restaurant, on an impulse I went inside. Glad I did! Could be the best steak I've ever had, great attentive service even though it was busy. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and it looks like it would be an ideal place for a small meeting or party, as there seems to be a couple private rooms of the main dining area. It's been twenty years since last going there, and the decor was then and still is now dated. I find restaurants without carpet a tad noisy for my hearing. However there is no deny that the food is good. I like that they will accomodate changes to the set menu. I always prefer rissotto with my steak. I also like my steak a little more than medium rare, and it was. The waiter seemed a little nervous, maybe he was new. It was Friday night and was not busy, which was a suprise. I dont mind paying top dollar but left thinking it was hard to justify the cost. I took my boyfriend for dinner here for his birthday. The service was great and certainly a 5 star. Nothing we tried we didn't love. We shared the escargot app which was my first time trying it and really enjoyed it. I had a steak and lobster tail, both were cooked perfectly. My boyfriend had the rack of lamb which he said was amazing. Will be going back for a special occasion for sure. It isn't cheap so expect to spend at least $200 if you want any booze as well. read more

Olivers is not just about steak, though if you want melt in your mouth tenderloin, this is where to go. Seafood and fish are always exceptional. So glad the original charm has been maintained. One of the best for steak in the GTA. Excellent service and location. A classic choice.

We have been going there for thirty years and will never go again. Waited 30 minutes to even be acknowledged, waited over an hour for our first course, and the food was average at best. The kitchen was totally incapable of getting food to the table in any sense of a reasonable time. The maitre d' never once came to our table, and spent the whole evening 'running' from the kitchen to tables with food. The chef was even serving food! Average is an overstatement for the food, the creativity and cooking was poor, and none of our steaks was cooked as requested. Oliver's was one of the best restaurants in Oakville, it has become in our opinion one of the worst we have experienced anywhere. The new owners should be ashamed of themselves, they have ruined this once fine restaurant. We left without giving any tip and told our waiter why. I would add he did his best, but the kitchen and management left him in an impossible position. read more

who cares if the setting is dated the food was incredible multiple explosions of flavors in my mouth with every bite on my steak . I love steak and did not know it could be this good, so good you want to take a bottle of wine back and entertain the chef just too try to replicate that bit of heaven . My companion had lamb and honestly I have a hard time deciding lamb or steak on our next visit. We still talk about it and how enjoyable it was. In todays world money may not be in ample supply but spending it on a dinner for or with someone special at Oliver's, is a great decision .And you too may not eat anything till late afternoon the following day just because you have such a wonderful food experience and you can still taste a bit of wonderment twenty hours later .Hats off to the chef and staff !!!!!!! read more

My husband planned a surprise dinner for me for my birthday. Being friends with the head chef and a couple of others that work in the kitchen, special things were planned and the entire staff knew we were coming in. I was led in blindfolded, and we were taken to our seats where I then found out where we were. It was a beautiful surprise. My husband is a very sensitive man and was emotional when we were going due to the romantic surprise and also because the last time he was there was 40 years ago with his parents (who are no longer with us). After being seated and welcomed by the head chef, we were told that they would not serve my husband a beer because the Maitre D stated that my husband was drunk. This is entirely untrue. My husband did not stumble, slur or behave in any manner of inebriation whatsoever. He didn't drink anything that day ahead of his planned evening for me. His only fault was being emotional and having glossy eyes from it, which is why the Maitre D would not serve him. My husband owns a restaurant and is very aware of smart serve and how that works. We would not go to such a "high end" restaurant in a condition that would have us cut off before we even get to order. It was extremely humiliating after so much planning, and at what is supposed to be a 4 diamond restaurant. We could not be paid to return to this establishment. I feel badly for all who helped to make this a wonderful surprise, only to have the entire evening ruined by someone who clearly should not be in the position he is in. We were both stunned and dumbfounded by this and will let anyone and everyone know about the appalling treatment we received. read more
