It's a bit difficult to find upstairs but it's well appointed and the view of the castle is pretty legit. We tried a couple of apps, both of which were good but the fish and chips were dialed in! Extra crispy chips and nice big piece of fish were complimented by classic mushy peas and a house made tartar sauce. The service was impeccable to top things off. If you are in the area, you should definitely add this to the list of places to try.

The roast potatoes were dry, dense, and suspiciously uniform, Aunt Bessie's on an off day. Yorkshire puddings were flavourless and hollow, with that telltale mass-produced texture. Vegetables were minimal and uninspired. The lamb was unseasoned and tough. For a restaurant with The Ivy's name and reputation, this felt rushed, joyless, and deeply underwhelming. No real flavour payoff, and no sign that anyone in the kitchen had any pride in the food they send out. Feels all the more jarring given how beautiful the setting is. This was less "elegant brasserie" and more "supermarket ready-meal with better lighting". I wouldn't return for the roast -- and I wouldn't recommend it.

This is a gem of a place right next to the river. The staff are really friendly and down to earth and the surroundings are fantastic, especially when the weathers good. There's loads on the menu from jacket spuds to breaded plaice so if your in a hurry or want a nice long lunch, both are catered for. They do a fantastic full English here too or if your feeling adventurous, I'd recommend the Loch Fyne Kippers. Its fully licensed here and they do serve a really nice South African Merlot for around £12 or of course you can just stick to the Harveys as it hasn't had more than 20 yards to travel!

Brasserie conjures pictures of a cool young couple enjoying a light lunch and a glass of wine, where as in reality you are far more likely to encounter old age pensioners nursing a cup of tea and a sarnie here! Not that there is anything wrong with this, I came here myself the other day and nursed a cup of tea and a slice of carrot cake! The tea was tea and the cake was pretty tasty although the frosting was overly sweetened. Other foods include sandwiches, bagettes, fish and chips, pie and chips etc etc. The food is apparently all homemade and looked reasonably tasty. Situated in a small shopping hall with a food hall, craft shops and gift retailers, there are also said to be good views over the river but we weren't able to see them from where we were sitting. They advertise free wifi but it wasn't working on our visit. Service was a little slow and a little surly. Overall, it's fine for a cake and a cuppa, but there are better options in Lewes if you require something a little more substantial.

A welcome return visit to this lovely place for a family dinner, a lovely evening, with the…read moreexception of the food, which was below average at best. I had the crispy duck rolls which were dry and bland, not sure where the 'crispy' came into it, followed by a sirloin steak that was tougher than a pair of my old boots and then a panacotta which was like a forlorn blob of tasteless paste begging to be put out of its misery. The servers are very pleasing to the eye and seem to be handpicked by someone who knows talent when they see it, but prefer to ignore it and choose young girls who try their best but offer service that is random to say the least. Needless to say, 3 courses plus a reasonable bottle of plonk work out at about 50 quid a head with a service charge (well, they did take photos for me and as I alluded to before, they were not a little pleasing on the eye). The ambience is still very pleasant but I just got the feeling that they were all just going through the motions and taking advantage of the fact that there is a shortage of such eating places in the area now. Such a shame, I Guess I'll go back, but it won't be for the food.
