After reading previous review reviews, I was a little apprehensive, walking in knowing what many others had experienced with their customer service. I will say when I walked in there was somebody who promptly greeted me and my husband, when we walked in and made some small talk. As we peruse the store, I did experience a little of what other people were saying as the employee seemed to keep popping up to chat with us as we per the store. I can understand why some customers may think that it may come off as the employees are watching you while you shop. I don't think that was what was happening at all. I think they were trying to definitely just be more friendly and welcoming, but I think they do need to tone down how many times they pop up while you are walking around the store. All of the items they have to offer are a fabulous quality and definitely a great spot to pick up gifts for others. When I'm in the area, I will definitely pop in and shop again.

The price point is expensive but expected at a small boutique store such as this. I could spent hours in here looking at all of the different items. My friend was coming in to exchange an item or swap it out for another item. After shopping around and finding another jacket that she liked we inspected the jacket because it was white and we wanted to make sure it was free of damage. We came across black marks on all of these white jackets and brought it up to an employee at the front. They attempted to clean it with a paper towel and maybe water? But unfortunately no luck. They mentioned that she could try to clear it with upholstery cleaner after she purchased it but at the price point of over $100 my friend decided to pass. She ended up returning her item and receiving store credit. The reason for my 3/5 rating is due to the expensive clothing being stained and the awkward exchange. Overall, I would come back and give this place a chance when in need of a unique gift.

But did you know they also have classes?!!! I KNOW, RIGHT?!! That's crazy. I thought they had everything, but now they really do! I took my first class at Dig Gardens: it was to make a Kokedama (a plant growing out of a moss ball that you can hang or place). It was taught by Kitty, whom I adore because, well, she's the sweetest. I picked a Lemon Lime Prayer Plant, named it "Stanley", and had to rework it several times to a point that it was almost embarrassing. Thankfully I know the instructor, so that made it better. Haha. The other "students" were awesome because aren't all plant parents and plant lovers the best?!! Well we all laughed when we lost leaves or messed up. It was really fun. This class included all the materials, tools, your choice of plant, and drinks (water or wine). No one surprisingly chose wine - I guess we took Kokodama very seriously! It was a 2 hour class but finished in 1.5 hours. It was around $65 I believe, and totally worth the experience as well as all the materials. Classes take place behind the store in a little workshop in the outdoor garden. Only a couple people took the class with a friend, and everyone else took it solo, like me. I would definitely take another class here.

I mean seriously, did someone read my journal of Favorite Things and create this store just for me?!! L-O-V-E! There is no walking around downtown Santa Cruz without stopping by Botanic and Luxe. I have purchased gifts here as well as framed art (with a locally-made wooden frame) that hangs in my home, and recently attended their anniversary event where they had local vendors serve matcha and desserts, and they provided 20% off the entire store, so naturally I went home with another plant baby. Even though the store was PACKED with customers, they asked me if I needed help twice and also spent time giving me plant care instructions! Botanic is a higher-end plant shop, so expect to see some matching "luxury" prices as well. But people don't usually come here to get the best deal; they come to feel a certain way while they peruse a beautiful shop that sources many items locally, to get a certain level of service, and to be ensured a certain quality of product.

Mine and my partner's family have ordered from this place several times over the years with really great experiences so naturally when we were putting in our garden we ordered 8 yard of 50/50 soil from them. With 8 yards of soil we were not surprised to find some pieces of trash (that is a lot of dirt and nothing is perfect, I have found trash in bag soil before). But as we continued to go through the pile there was a LOT of trash in it. Rags, baling twine, a sprinkler head, pvc pipe, beer cans, food wrappers, all kinds of plastic bits and pieces, parts of animal feed bags, glass, etc. this soil was dirtier than fill dirt. Obviously because this was going in my vegetable garden I didn't want all the trash in it so I have had to painstakingly try to remove the trash as I come across it (I was moving the soil with 5 gallon buckets and I found trash in about 1 in every 3 buckets). I was very disappointed for the quality after spending over $400 on dirt and delivery and it really solidified that I will go elsewhere in the future.
