Very restrictive, difficult, and interrupted my conversation with my child and reprimanded me in front of my child.

This was the worst experience of my life. After a year of paperwork and a lot of money, they sent…read moreme to Russia to "meet my baby". The whole thing was a mess once I got there. No one was there to pick us up from the airport (imagine landing at 1 am in a foreign country where you don't speak the language!), and it was one big fiasco after another. After a few days there, I found that they did not even have a baby chosen for me so I spent a few days dealing with the government to try to find one. Then, after going to the orphanage and being interviewed for 4 hours, I was told that I couldn't meet her because she "had not been in the Russian system for the required 6 months". Still, I signed the paperwork to come back in a few weeks. During that time, the Mother reclaimed the baby. To make matters worse, the owner of Life Adoption then fired me for complaining about it all and I never got my money back. I took her to small claims court to try to recoup some of my money but they said her contracts said that she did not have to give me money back. Joan is totally unprofessional and should NOT be in the adoption business. HORRIBLE!!! I really hope no one else ever has to go through this. There are lots of professional organizations out there.

I worked with Life Adoption many years ago with two other couples. Our girls are now 21. I don't…read moreknow if the same people are running it and perhaps that makes a difference. You can check with the better business bureau as we did for complaints. At that time there were none. Just to let you know that Russia is one of the scariest places to adopt. The country does not want any healthy babies to leave so the health records are often adjusted, if you know what I mean. It is possible to get stuck over there if the government decides that they are going to shut down things temporarily and you never know the costs of the health exam since it changes weekly. We were all very happy with how things were run. Thee was a driver that met us at the airport and he stayed with us for the seven days when we needed a ride and was such a sweetheart at the mall and held the baby for me. The interpreter met us at the hotel and we made plans for the remainder of the trip at dinner. We eventually got Visas for the girls and flew to Ufa to get them and visit the orphanages. We brought presents and things like bubble gum. It was very interesting. Everything was very organized as was the visit to the Mayors office and the lady that was the helper at the orphanage. We were driven to all places, the embassy, the visa place, the mayors, sight seeing, the doctors and in the end the orphanage for last minute details about how to care for the babies while they were in our care until we got home. We had been given a list of things to bring ahead of time. We also took with us from the mayors office a booklet about their heritage. When I left in the car for the airport to go to Moscow, my daughters nurse leaned into the car and asked permission to kiss her good bye. I felt the whole time that the care givers had an attachment with her. I don't know about the other orphanages. I do know that I felt it was very organized and we were in and out in seven days. It still feels like a dream to me all these years later. I did not feel that I could not trust the organization but it has been a long time. Everything is about how the people who work there care and want your trip to be run well. You should always check into the organization you are going to use. Ask for people who have gone through them etc. I also hired a professional researcher to find out about my daughters background since Russia gives you very little of anything. Pam Bucci

Let me start by introducing myself ,my name is Ray and I'm a birth father and let me say this…read moreclearly and for the record , in hopes the following will attach itself forever to A is for adoption and its reputation .to start the owner lourie Colton is one of the most sincere, caring ,compassionate people that I have ever met in my 55 years on this planet(next to my mother God rest her soul) (and my wife rest in peace Mina) .i just can't speak with any higher praise when it comes to lourie and those who work with her at the agency.in reading some of the less than positive reviews put on the record here from those trying to adopt I will say this, the placing of child in a new forever home is not a simple thing, and there are many complexities of navigation that must be adhered to ,to protect everybody involved.so when anyone starts down the road to adoption know that there is never any guarantee of placement made by anyone. But if you feel like you have the patience and resources to bless a child with a forever home then the people at A is for adoption is the best agency operating period period.i know that my wife and I placed 2 babies we loved but could not care for up for adoption through lourie and her agency it was the most intelligent smart choice me and my wife have ever painfully made.if you are a perspective adoptive parent what you need to do is everything you can, then prey for the miracle and lastly but most importantly give A is for adoption a call and trust and believe you are in the best hands there are,I hope this helps even one person and may God bless you all (I include you lourie and your daughter I hope all is well for you both, and all you guys ,it's God's work that you do don't ever forget it,and don't ever stop because lourie your making tomorrow a brighter place for so many people and you build families and nothing is more near to God than the children .ok I'm done I didn't mean to write a book but I did.i love you guys forever

Baby 2 took forever (due to covid) but we are finally done. BM #2 was difficult to say it best but Laurie was in our corner the entire time. We are finally happy to be a family of 4 and thank the staff for all their hard work. I wish them the best in all they do. Baby #2 arrived happy and healthy.
