After one Semester down, as parents of a Kindergartener, we can't shout at the rooftops enough…read moreabout Scholarship Prep OC!! Our son is a first year Kindergertener here at new Grand Ave campus with Ms Gutierrez and he wakes up every morning excited to go to school! We're very thankful for the hands-on approach offered by the amazing proactive educators and staff at Scholarship Prep. We see the principal Ms Allotey in the drop off and pick up lines daily, something you never expect or witness from "regular" public schools. Scholarship Prep is funded by the US Dept of Education and they have been awarded a California Distinguished School award, the highest prestige elementary schools can receive after only a handful of years it was founded. There are many founding teachers still here on the campus including Ms Allotey and Stephanie has been really instrumental as we just recently enrolled my daughter into TK next year with one of her best friends from preschool! We are so excited to have our children attending as Scholars at SPOC where they can learn emotional, academic, and character building skills in a technology forward brand new campus with teachers like Ms Gutierrez who really care about their scholars! They also utilize Class Dojo which makes it really easy to stay in touch and receive updates daily from the school. The YMCA OC staff, Jacqueline there is really sweet and our son enjoys his time after school completing homework and bonding with his fellow scholars. We can't say enough about Scholarship Prep OC, and we thank the Lord everyday that we found a great home for our family here.

We are not members of Calvary Chapel church, nor do we have any family that is a part of the staff. We are a brand new family that researched and visited numerous schools before deciding on enrolling our son here. The preschool program is amazing and we are so happy with their Elementary program. In kindergarten my son is reading, attending a steam class once a week, and spanish class as well. Bible and prayer are incorporated daily. Though all of this is important, what stands out to me the most is the LOVE teachers and school staff show their students. I can't list how many times I have personally seen teachers just POUR love into their students. When they tell you they are praying over them, they mean it! Communication between teachers is the best. If we have a concern they address it right away. The superintendent also emails updates that are happening throughout all grade levels, giving you glimpse of what to look forward too in the future. The school holds a large fundraiser which is the jog-a-thon, and gives us exact details as to what the funds will be going too. Last year the jog-a-thon raised enough funds for a brand new playground for the older elementary students. This year the jog-a-thon funds will be applied to a brand new Kindergarten playground which I'm so excited to see. The biggest blessing of all, is the relationships we are forming with other families!

Our family has loved attending Maranatha Christian Academy! I often get the opportunity to share…read moreabout the school my kids attend, by way of conversations on a park playground or at church, and I often think about writing a review on Yelp, but have just been too busy, parenting our 3 kiddos. Today, I decided I would make time. If you are searching for a great school in the OC area for your child to attend, I would whole heartedly recommend MCA and the Calvary Chapel Schools family. All 3 of my kids started at this school in the Preschool (Calvary Chapel Preschool) program, which is fabulous. CCPS has low class sizes, nurturing and supportive teachers, and a perfect balance of academic and play based learning, from gardening, pe/creative movement, to formal academic concepts, with an emphasis in Biblical principals and moving toward readiness for the next grades level to come. 2 of my kids are now in the lower elementary school at MCA (one is still in preschool). Both children transitioned into Kindergarten and beyond seamlessly. All of the schools, whether preschool, middle school, or high school, really try to collaborate to do what they can to ensure students are equipped for the challenges that come in each grade level. MCA uses a blend of Christian Curricula to give balanced, cohesive instruction that meets state standards but also builds on a Biblical worldview. I have now experienced a variety of teachers and have been very impressed with the sense of caring and family I have gotten with each one. I have enjoyed seeing the school hire talented individuals and support them as they instruct my kids, using their gifts and personalities to make our classroom experiences special and dynamic in unique ways. Open communication and emails are always welcome, as I am told, as a parent, I am a partner in educating my kids. Never once did I feel like I was bothering a teacher regarding any issue that might arise throughout the school years. The school has a variety of great events throughout the year, whether it be Veteran's Day, Christmas Programs, Grandaparent's Day, End of the Year Picnic, and so many more. They really try to cultivate a sense of community. My favorite event is Open House, which is usually done in February or March. This is a great event for prospective families to attend to feel the real pulse on our campus and to ask questions about any thoughts you might have about this school. The rooms are displayed with students work to demonstrate and celebrate the learning that takes place. There are snacks, performances, and fun events through the night. Definitely call the school and ask what the Open House date is for this year, so you can get a sense of what a blessing this place is. Words don't do it justice. We love the Calvary Chapel Schools/Maranatha Christian Academy family!

However, there are serious concerns with the structure and supervision of the program. My son currently attends only once or twice a week, usually Thursdays and Fridays, because those are the days they tend to do more fun and active things. One of the positives is that they do try to get kids involved in sports, which my son enjoys. Unfortunately, that's one of the only structured parts of the program. Most of the time, especially later in the afternoon, the kids are kept in the cafeteria where there's little structure, and that's when the bullying tends to happen. My son has been hit, isolated, and bullied several times. He's described the environment as chaotic--kids are wild, and there doesn't seem to be enough staff or strong behavior management in place. I've also noticed that some of the staff are distracted, sometimes chatting about their personal lives instead of supervising. Another issue we experienced was when a staff member became very emotional about something my son said, and instead of handling it calmly, he escalated the situation unnecessarily and refused to interact with my son's father anymore, saying he would only speak with me. He involved the principal and said the matter would be investigated, but we never received any follow-up--even after waiting several weeks. I don't feel confident in the staff's training or emotional readiness to manage kids, especially when issues arise. The program has good potential, but without stronger structure, supervision, and staff support, I can't say I feel my child is completely safe or supported there.

They sent me out to do a fingerprint background check, a TB test. Required me to provide them my transcripts showing over 48 college credits and required me to do a mandatory test upon offering me the position as a program leader. They had me do all the new hire paperwork and come to orientation. All of this was over a 30 day period. NEVER asking me about my facial piercing or telling me that it was not allowed when I went into their office in person to do my fingerprinting. I show up on the first day of orientation with a flesh covered band-aid covering my piercing and sit in the orientation for almost 3 hours to be told to that I would not be allowed to wear a bandaid every day to work. However THINKtogether allows workers to cover facial tattoos while on duty. I believe that was UNPROFESSIONAL to say the least. I also feel that this issue should/could've been addressed during the screening process. THNK together do MORE thinking before wasting people's time.
