This hospital took excellent care of my 90+ year old mother and is currently taking excellent care of my daughter. My first grandson was born here seven years ago, and they took great care of my daughter then, too. With health care going the way it is these days, it's a great comfort to know my loved ones will be taken care of at this hospital if their hospitalisation is ever required. Regrettably we had a family emergency requiring ER visit. When we arrived, there were people outside the ER complaining about their care and wait time. The emergency room waiting area was busy. When they noticed our child was here for a sports related injury he was triaged, provided with medications, and x-rays before he was admitted into the ER. The staff were wonderful and accommodating. The RN, Mikala was truly wonderful with our son and helping him through the experience. They answered all our questions and made the care we received the reason I am rating them 5/5. I went in recently because I was blocked and couldn't poop because pharmacy couldn't fill my linzess. Dr was a complete ass! How do fingers like a Salem's hot dog and jammed his fingers up my rectum so hard that the nurses that were standing next to my side started crying because they knew how bad it hurt. I have never had a doctor be so abusive of the way he was I'm a type one diabetic and I have gastroparesis really bad. He claimed that I didn't eat correctly and gave me a lecture up and down like he knew me personally didn't want to listen to a word I had to say I waited in the waiting room, which was empty at the time six hours before I was even seen the first time I came to this hospital. I had the same issue, and ended up being discharged because I didn't have a blockage in my belly I was so upset because I couldn't poop that I drove all the way to Buffalo to one of the hospitals highly recommend never to come here if you have any diabetes or gastroparesis related issues because they know nothing about it. read more

I was transferred by ambulance to olean general because I was suffering extreme lower stomach and groin pain the dr assigned to my case ordered 7 tube's of blood drawn then discharged me with the diagnosis of a gerd flare up I suffer from gerd already and even on the worst of day it never causes any lower stomach or groin pain the disease doesn't travel in that direction period on top of that under treatment was a prescription for a med im already on the same exact dose clearly the dr didnt even go over my records read more

In November 2021 my father had the misfortune of being routed to this killing field of a hospital. They gave him the death cocktail and made sure to give him enough Haldol so that he could not advovate for himself. He refused intubation and they gave us mixed info the entire time of his progress. One would say he is stable, the next would say he is near death and if he was not intubated that there was nothing they were going to do for him but let him die. This is the worst hospital you could ever pick if you needed serious help. They will suffocate you to death, blow out your lungs, refuse to try alternate therapies. By the time they let one of us see him he was gone. I pulled the records and was able to see what they actually gave him and when and the lies that they told us made it very clear that advocates are always needed. Never let a loved one go into these death camps alone. Not to be trusted. Pure horror of hearing my Father trying to tell me that he needed to get out of there with a tube down his throat has given me PTSD to last a lifetime. This is the 3 relative that had died at OGH. Its better to try alternatives to this death plan as they have incentives to intubate that are sick. He didn't come out alive or with his personal money clip that disappeared along with him from this Earth. They need to be able to try other therapies. read more

The doctors and staff are absolutely the rudest people I have ever dealt with in my life. I was there for a cardiac emergency and I was treated like garbage. My cardiac emergency was in no way drug related and they treated me like I was trash off the street. They lied, they raised their voice m, sent me in for an unnecessary emergency medical procedure because they would not listen to me. When they found out I was right the treatment of me and my hus was even worse. I told the one doctor that was so rude to get out of my room and then I signed myself out. I've never been lied to so many times by a doctor in my life or treated so terribly. Next time I'll just go to the vet. Don't get me started on everything I was billed for that was never completed. read more

We are always impressed by the professionalism displayed by the staff at Olean General. Doctors take the time to talk to you, answer questions, and are very compassionate. The NP's, PA's and RN's are the best. One has to admire the long hours they put in, and they are like the Energizer Bunny that just keeps going. read more

This hospital is a joke. No wonder this hospital has the reputation it does! I called this morning to talk to Registration. I was transferred and my call was re-routed back to the switchboard SIX TIMES over a 6 minute period. SIX TIMES noone would answer the phone in registration! Why don't they have a receptionist in that department taking the calls if the representatives are busy? Hello! That's a no brainer. Don't tell me you are short handed......figure it out. A phone call to the hospital is the first step when someone needs help or has a question and first impressions start there. I wouldn't recommend anyone to use Olean General Hospital if they don't have to. Upper Management needs to get on the ball and start fixing these small problems that have become huge problems. read more

The shortage of staff is ridiculous. I don't even understand how you can continue taking patients when you don't have the resources to care for them. My elderly mother was admitted for 3 breaks in her ankle. There were some nurses that were great and some that should not be allowed near patients. She was shamed ,she was made to feel like a burden. She was left sitting in her own urine and feces for over 4 hours and then changed because we came and changed her. There was one traveling nurse that was so obnoxious to not only my mother but also myself. So wish we could get her out now. read more

Olean General Hospital is a horrible place to work at as it is to receive care.. None of the employees clean any of the patients, the hospital is dirty.. patients are fed crap food.. within my experience many patients that have been admitted into this hospital sit for hours before even getting a bed in the emergency department.. let alone everyone sitting around doing nothing letting patients lay around in soiled gowns/beds. I myself have been admitted here and they told me the wait would be 6 hours as they were backed up! Which the only reason they are backed up is because no one wants to work in this crappy environment, I immediately left and went to Jones Memorial where I was admitted as soon as i got there.. If you live in the Olean area definitely take the time to go to Jones Memorial they have a clean/well taken care of hospital as do they take very good care of there patients, constantly checking up on you which is what OGH employees lack.. furthermore the management sucks they're rude and oh so disrespectful. Thank you for taking the time to read this review and I hope you take it into consideration before letting your family member be treated poorly in this so called "hospital." read more

Took my wife there for symptoms of a stroke, and the staff acted with no urgency at all, but instead wanted to argue with me about her condition. 35 years later, I can't believe I still have to deal with this crap hole of a place. read more

The last time I was sent to OGH was after visiting Wellnow and they were concerned about pneumonia. I reluctantly agreed because I have asthma and always err in the side of caution and they insisted I needed fluids and whatever else. I was taken back to a room and when the PA came in he asked why I was there. I explained the situation and he says, "Ok... But... Why... Are...You HERE?" Like I was an idiot. I responded, "because... the...Doctor... at...Wellnow... was...concerned...about...pneumonia. Providers do not need to speak to people in a condescending manner. They were very dismissive. It's really a shame because Olean SHOULD be a premier facility for our region. People should WANT to come here. I will never go there again if I can avoid it. My husband and I drive out to Coudersport, PA. It's a TOP NOTCH hospital and community resource. We've received excellent care there and the staff sends thank you cards after you're discharged! Avoid Olean if you can. My experience was minor but I certainly wouldn't want my 80 year old mother to be admitted or treated in Olean. read more

I was recently admitted to Olean General Hospital for a minor infection in my leg that required IV antibiotics. I was there from the evening of 7/2 until the afternoon of 7/5. I don't think the people who work in hospitals get nearly enough credit for all the hard work they do and that's why I wanted to make sure I left this review. It's not just the nurses or doctors but EVERYONE, from the volunteers to the clerks, nutrition staff, and lab technicians, who deserve recognition. As a patient, you have to be understanding when it comes to nurses getting to you. Most hospitals are under-staffed, even before people call in sick. When I called for a nurse, someone came right away the majority of the time. The most I'd waited was maybe 15 minutes, and the issue at hand wasn't an emergency. When there IS an emergency, the staff are quick to respond. The nurses were polite and attentive to my needs whether they were minor or not. I was extremely concerned about my IV port because I've had issues with my veins in the past. I had a previous visit where my IV needed to be changed multiple times because the site "infiltrated" (the IV infusion, whether it be just saline or saline + medication, absorbs into surrounding tissue) and it was painful. It's caused anxiety whenever I get an IV inserted. When the staff were made aware of the issue, they did everything they could to help and make me feel comfortable. That's the key: communicating. If they don't know the issue, they can't help. Housekeeping and the nutrition staff were extremely helpful and polite. They always asked before doing anything in the room, especially if I were asleep. The doctors that came to see me went over everything with me and answered any questions I had. When I was discharged, I was sent home with the paperwork for all my labs and all my instructions. My prescription had already been called in to my local pharmacy and was ready to be picked up before I was discharged so everything for my at-home care was ready. I highly recommend Olean General Hospital and hope their administration and executives receive copies of these reviews. read more

Olean hospital is ranked as an A grade facility. Bradford Regional? They rank a C grade. Perplexed, they're given such a high rating. We drive to Olean in case of emergency. Myself & family members have all been treated like human beings and the ER staff's polite, efficient & thorough. I've told family (in case of true emergency) to ONLY take me to Olean even at risk of death. I'd only use allopathic services in true emergencies and I'd only go to Olean General. This hospital seems to hire GOOD, decent, competent people. There's no rudeness, crudeness or verbal abuse of patients. For those slamming Olean general? I suggest you try neighboring, Bradford, Pa's hospital once or twice. Then you'll start singing praises about Olean General Hospital. read more

This place sucks. The employees couldn't care less about their patients, they take their time doing EVERYTHING. & Every single patient struggles to find a doctor or nurse to help them. I was struggling throughout the night bc of my illness and needed assistance. I pressed the "call nurse" button SEVENTEEN times & NO ONE, not even ONCE came to help me. I came to find the out the next day that the buttons on the beds do NOT work and all the 4 staff members that were treating me just so happened to forget to tell me this piece of information. I stayed the next night as well and was angry. Due to the unfortunate treatment (or lack of) I had gotten the night before, I knew it would have made me more comfortable for my mom (who drove hours to be w me) to stay the night in my room with me. APPARENTLY, this hospital has a rule that if a patient is over 15 years old.... FIFTEEN YEARS OLD they aren't allowed any guests to stay. I wouldn't never recommend this place to anyone ever, not even to my worst enemy. I will never willing go back to this hospital. I would happy drive further for one that is better. read more

Very unprofessional, slow, rude. I went there for over 20 years! Radiology, physical therapy, pain injections and labs. I can honestly say it was bad and has only gotten worse. And the ER is the worst part. 6 hour minimum(no joke) and send you home without doing anything. There should be laws to close places like this!!! read more

I had surgery on august 26th the care was awful the nurses are super nice but administration makes it impossible to do their jobs they don't know how to staff they keeping cutting staff which is not safe when you ring your call bell it shouldn't take 2 hours for someone to come. My 88-year-old mother presented to the ER 5/8/20 for leg pain and weakness. At the time she was at full mental capacity, ambulatory with walker assistance. she was admitted to the hospital with our concerns expressed to the hospital that we feared for her life and safety since we would not be able to be there with her due to covid 19 as there were several reported incidents of abuse and neglect during her January 2020 stay that occurred in front of family members and the condition that we found her in when we would leave and come back. on 5/10/20 we found it very difficult to reach her, her phone was not answered in her room and it was difficult to get in touch with nurse's station. we expressed our concerns about this. by 5/11/20 she was totally incoherent and unable to answer her phone. at times an aid would answer and we heard her screaming in the background. When they held the phone to her she was unable to speak and she had no idea where she was. she believed she was home. The Dr. (RAZA) told me on 5/11/20 that she was on hydrocodone for pain and when I expressed my concerns about her wellbeing he informed me that her bloodwork was good and she could be discharged 5/12/20. On 5/12/20 we were informed by nurses that she had not had any pain medication since she had been there other than 1 Tramadol and she was diagnosed 5/12/20 with a UTI and was beginning treatment. On 5/13/20 we were told it would be yet another day due to possible small area of pneumonia. We insisted on her discharge 5/14/20. upon picking her up she was brought out in light summer pajamas, a blanket NO MASK and turned over to us and we thought they had made a mistake and brought the wrong patient out. we did not even recognize what was sitting in that wheelchair. The nurse stated that what we were seeing were probably residual effects from the Ativan that was given to her to "calm her down" Why did she need to be calmed down and why was she given Ativan? We were rushed along and given no real discharge instructions. upon getting her home she laid in fetal position for the first 3 days crying for her mother. she was covered in bruises showing all signs of severe abuse, trauma and suspected sexual abuse. at first the home nurses though that she may have been catheterized for the urine sample and that was painful and traumatizing for her but we later found out that they NEVER even did a urinalysis and she never had a UTI that they claimed she had and was treating her for. After a few days she began to come around a small amount and she could only cry and ask why they had done those things to her in the hospital and why they hurt her. We also found out that she had a 14mm kidney stone that was never addressed or told to us. My mother went from being of TOTAL sound mind and ambulatory (only experiencing some pain and weakness) on 5/8/20 to now being on end stage hospice care. we have had several incidents with this hospital that have always fallen on deaf ears. In researching the many websites, we have come across SEVERAL similar heart wrenching stories from patients and families in this hospital and I am currently corresponding with a woman who saw my post about her father in law who is currently in that hospital suffering abuse and neglect. I have every intention of contacting Medicare, State Board of Medicine, Health Dept. and any other agency that will shed light on what happened to my mother in that establishment. I have worked in the medical profession myself for the past 20 years and have never witnessed anything like this hospital. I am contacting the large benefactors for the hospital, the press and anyone that will listen and help me to stop another human being from suffering this type of tragedy and abuse in this facility. I also will fight as hard as I can to get the license of Dr. Raza taken from him. I want whomever abuse, assaulted, and basically killed my mother held accountable. **Update since this was first written. On June 9, 2020 exactly 27 days after she has suffered the abuse, assault, medical misdiagnosis and gross negligence my mother has passed away. Also, the man I mentioned that his family had contacted me due to similar complaints of neglect and abuse was scheduled to be released from that establishment 6/8/20 but had passed on 6/5/20. I will fight until I take my last breath for my mother, this man and ALL who walk through the doors of Olean General Hospital that are unable to speak for themselves. There has to be change, people have to be held accountable. I have been in contact with the hospital and Melody Stuckey informed me that an investigation had been done (it took a day) and that they asked everyone on the third floor if anyone had done anything to my mother and they all stated "no". Did administration actually expect someone to step up and admit that they abused, neglected, assaulted, drugged, misdiagnosed and wrongfully treated / medicated an 88 year old woman? My mother recently underwent surgery at Olean General Hospital and I was completely impressed with every aspect of our experience there. The families of surgical patients were directed to a spacious, warm waiting area with a nice fireplace and plenty of good magazines. Once there, a concierge checked in on us regularly, getting to know our names, chatting about anything and everything, and giving us updates on the patient we were waiting for. When we had questions about something, the concierge immediately got us the answers. After my mother was admitted to a room in post-surgical, her great care continued. As shifts changed, each nurse came to the room to introduce herself--and help or information was never far away. I am, honestly, a little freaked out by hospitals--but this one was so impressive that it could change my mind. read more

The emergency room sucks. You could walk in carrying your own head, and they would still make you wait 2 hours. Then when you finally do get seen, half the time they dont know whats wrong and either send you home with no diagnosis, or the wrong diagnosis. I went in complaining of shoulder pain. They spent 2 hours checking my heart, came back said, well its not your heart. and i said, ok. thats good, i came in for shoulder pain, not chest pain.. can you tell me whats wrong with my shoulder? and i kid you not he literally told me "well what we basically do here is tell you what its not" are you serious? this hospital is a joke. read more

Lets just say when my grandson broke his arm over the summer, we drove past this hospital, 20 additional minutes while he was in immense pain, to get to a different hospital. The countless negative experiences our family and friends have had at Olean General Hospital (myself included), is ridiculous. We live in Salamanca, so this is the closest hospital to us--but regardless of what our illness or injury might be, we drive PAST this hospital to the next small town. OGH is hit or miss, as far as having a knowledgeable staff in their Emergency Room--and I've never encountered a friendly face there--other than perhaps the person who takes your insurance information and makes sure their billing department has what they need. read more

This is in regards to my sisters treatment at olean general hospital, she has MS along with PSP, both cause falling, because of this she is in a wheelchair. A recent stay was for cellulitis in her leg she was admitted for antibiotic IVs she was unable to get out of bed to use the bathroom, she should call and someone would set a bedpan in place. Visiting hours ended at six PM at a quarter to six she called for a bedpan, her husband and myself left at six he called her at 7PM asked how long did it take for someone to come with the bedpan "Nobody had come" she couldn't hold the urine. My brother-in-law called the hospital asked for the nurses station on the third floor, he suggested that someone should find out why the light over her door had been blinking for over an hour. My sister said someone did respond with the words "what do you want now" I would guess she wanted to get out of the urine soaked sheets she had been sitting in for over an hour! A letter to the hospital CEO resulted in a call from his secretary saying they apologize but they are short staffed. Not an acceptable excuse. read more

Absolutely the worst hospital in southern western New York. Both nurses and Dr.s are very cold hearted and seem un-educated in their practice. My mom came there by ambulance with heart problems and visual blood in her urine. She is 64 years old. She was in pain like I've never seen anyone before. Pain was coming from both kidneys. They DID NOT figure out why her heart was going so fast and why she was bleeding and RELEASED her the next day. She was in worst shape when she left Olean General then when she arrived there. She had to go back the next day because she was even worse that the day before. I've had bad experiences with this hospital myself. Not a good place to go if you are almost dying, as they have NO idea what they are doing..... very disappointing. read more
