Wha?? Only one review?…read more I have to admit, when I saw there was only uno review (and 3 star one at that), I hesitated. But, it was Sunday, I hated my hair and needed a change. Immediately. First, they have Schedulicity, which is pretty much awesome. Alyssa happened to be available at 3:30pm, the last opening, so I took it. Alyssa was professional, easy to talk to and very talented. I told her exactly what I wanted and she did it...and then some. As I said, it was the last last shift on a Sunday, but I never felt rushed, which was really nice. Having recently moved here from Boston, I'm relieved to find a great place for a cut and a styling...especially for the really great price point. I went to Verde in Nashua when I first moved here, and for the money....meh? I left there feeling like I over spent with a mediocre cut. When I left the salon earlier this afternoon, I felt AWESOME. Great hair. Sweet price. I'm coming back soon for a partial foil. Other notes: the place was immaculate. Alyssa is rad.

I was surprised to find a salon open on a Monday - most salons are closed. Since I often take off Mondays to have a three day weekend, I'm often stuck doing my own pedicures. The girl who did my pedicure was very personable and was running on time. My pedicure chair was already set up and waiting for me, which was helpful. I wish she asked how much I like my nails trimmed down because I felt like my toenails were shorter than I prefer for them to be. Unfortunately the pedicure chair was pushed pretty far back and since I have short legs I couldn't see just how short they were at first to be able to speak up sooner. One of my toe nails ended up being cut really short, so when she filed the file cut my skin a bit and my toe is a bit sore. It's a bit of a bummer because I'm only able to display 9 toes since one has a bandaid right now. Not a horrible experience overall - some things were good, some not so good. I think if I were to go back I'd make sure to speak up about how I prefer the length of my nails because that was the overiding factor in why I didn't rate this higher.

I called the salon/spa as soon as we hung up with his sister. The person that answered the phone said it was no issue and she was very kind. Unfortunately, later that evening we received an email stating we were no-shows and we were then charged $300 on our credit card. I called to speak to the owner on Monday. Instead of being, compassionate and kind she lectured me on how many visits I had to cancel in the past year. She agreed to the refund but inferred that I am not welcome back and also would not let-up on the cancellation history. We've been frequent guests at BVI over the years and even held our daughter's wedding shower there in 2024. It's disappointing that an experience at Luxe has now colored how I feel about the property as a whole, given how loyal we've been. Of the appointments I did need cancel for medical reasons (13 over the course of a year), my shortest notice was 9 days and longest was 108, averaging about 7 weeks. That's real time to fill those slots, not someone trying to hurt the business. Their cancellation policy states no less than 24 hours notice is required. I did well over that each time. I typically would book months in advance because securing the people I want and the dates/times I want is not easy if I wait too close to the dates/times I need. This causes me to have to adjust the appointments at times due to medical issues I was having at that time. I explained this to the owner, but she still was very aggressive and heartless.

The salon itself is super clean and all of the staff are very friendly. Drinks are offered to you as soon as you walk in and everyone says hi. I also explained that I style my hair with my fingers and powder rather than a round brush. Erica appeared to understand and agreed with what I was asking for. Despite that conversation, she repeatedly cut around my head until most of it was approximately the same short length. I had to tell her to stop when she began another pass. The crown I had spent five months growing out was cut off, while my bangs and front were barely touched. The result looked square and blunt rather than textured, balanced, or tailored to what we had discussed. During the blow-dry, a metal or wire-style brush was used even after I had explained that this was not how I style my hair, and my scalp was red afterward. I also left with loose hair and clumps of cut hair down my back. Once I got home and saw the full result, I was devastated and cried for a couple of hours. We contacted the salon manager the following day hoping to discuss the experience and a refund, but the response felt dismissive and showed no meaningful flexibility or empathy. A bad haircut is upsetting; having clear instructions ignored and then having the concern brushed aside made the experience much worse. I cannot recommend this salon.

My dead ends frantically called out to the hairdresser who was looking around on the sidewalk. So I went in, found out they had an opening, and decided to tame the mane then and there. The salon is very simple and inviting. They had the door propped open so there was a good breeze and I got to do a lot of people watching. My hairdresser was an older lady with a thick accent - European? - and she was very sweet. She didn't force any conversation which made my inner introvert sag in relief. When she did talk, it was in a soothing mutter and I found myself laughing because she was so motherly and made me feel comfortable. She was not afraid to dig in and squat near my lap, crank my head to the side in interesting ways, and fuss over tiny hairs that defied her. She had her work cut out for her, because I arrived with a rain forest on my head, but she took charge and gently straightened out the chaos. She complimented my hair a bunch, too, which was nice. She made sure to cut my hair to my specifications, and was a perfectionist about making it look good. And she succeeded! She civilized my hair and took off half its weight. The cut cost me $37 which seemed very fair. She didn't try to sell me products or push me to schedule an appointment (you don't know just how much that impresses me, when business people don't do anything to try to get more of your money) but she didn't need to; I had such a good and relaxing time that I'm sure I'll be back.

I was getting prices and scheduling for salons in the area, and to get my hair cut last minute for an event I was attending. I couldn't find anything for that day or the next, so feeling defeated, I started making my way home. I passed Hair Decor, and they were open, so I walked in. I was greeted by Jane, one of the two hair dressers that work there. I asked her I needed to get in soon (this was maybe between 11:00 a.m. or 12:00 I think?) and she said, "Well, I have a hair dye coming in soon, so how's 1:30?" Sold. I warned her in advance that my hair is complicated, and she assured me that she was fine with it. The first appointment she took a lot of time to go over with me what I wanted. The cut came out exactly how I wanted it and the prices were reasonable. You can expect to pay anywhere from $25.00 to $35.00 for a haircut here (adult woman's) or $6.00 - $18.00 (children and men's), as opposed to spending up to $55.00 just one block down the street. I've been going to this hair dresser since May of last year, and I let no one else touch my hair. I always get compliments on how it comes out, and have never had to come back to have her fix anything. Jane is also a sweetheart. She works very well with kids, including "special needs" (I hate that term) children, and she cut my nephew's hair for his first hair cut. I always am baffled when she has openings the day I call for an appointment. I nominated her for hair dresser of the year for the Hippo, and would do that again in a heartbeat!
