Eclectic funky olde good things, I decided to stop by here two weeks ago.. definitely a very unique and cool place to visit parking sucks so be careful with that of course it's LA so what do you expect? I found a cool vintage ships binnacle that was converted into a lamp that I plan on polishing up and returning to a compass.. prices overall are fair some items can be pretty pricey, but they are in very good condition overall.. In a word: Dirty. In 3 words: Sanford and Sons I was introduced to OGT in Manhattan. There have been a couple of different locations around NY city over the years. When you entered, it was always neat, organized, CLEAN, and inviting. This LA OGT is a big mess. I wanted to shower after we left. It's a hodgepodge of garbage mixed in with some good vintage stuff but it's really hard to look past the overall grime of the place. There were 3 ppl working and I'm pretty sure I could have lit myself on fire and none of them would have gotten up from their chairs and paused their conversation with each other. We walked by them multiple times without so much as a hello. In NY, there are actual sales people - you know, like a business that wants to be successful. Major disappointment. read more

I love walking through these antique shops and warehouses just to look around and see all the neat things from the past. My house is full of antiques already so I didn't need to buy anything. A salesman who worked there was very nice and asked a few times if I needed any assistance finding something. The one negative thing about this shop is that everything was pricey. read more

Beware. I spent weeks working with Veronica in the door dept by email. I wanted a single-panel door, which typically runs $140. She never answered my questions about the cost of the door early in the conversation (although in response to my email she did tell me the shipping price, conveniently forgetting to tell me the price of the door itself). Holy cow! This place is AMAZING!!! I was looking for a closet door with character, something more that just the regular selection from Home Depot/Lowe's, etc. I thought vintage might be the way to go, so after a quick google search I came across this place, which wasn't terribly far from me. I went in and was in heaven! They had so many doors, so many styles, so many choices. But it's not just doors - every inch of this place has incredible stuff - lights, shelves, countertops, doors, door handles, whatever you need inside a home. I loved it so much that a week later I brought my fiancé there just to show him the place and we wound up buying a light too! Along with amazing finds, I found that the prices were actually reasonable for an antique store. Chuck is super nice, and he gives you space to look around, but is there when you need something. Wow you can spend hours here and not see everything there is to see. The guys here are friendly and knowledgeable and helpful. The pricing here is very fair. They could probably be a bit more responsive to emails and turn around times but with the volume of stuff they have I imagine they are constantly busy. read more

This place is on the outskirts of downtown and it's packed with neat, often quirky finds. Last time we saw a vintage rocket ship pinball machine and a huge array of old signs from stores. They also have furniture with a nice, real patina. Oh, and lots of light fixtures and old maps. We bought a huge beveled mirror. They have an entire room in the back of them ranging in a variety of dimensions and materials. Robert helped us, and he is as unique as the stuff he sells. He told another couple to "take their time browsing as the folks who made the things took their time making them." BAIT AND SWITCH. I purchased a nautical outdoor sconce from Olde Good Things for $300. It was hanging on their wall - with a bulb inside - lit. I live out of state and paid $60 to have it shipped to me. When I opened the box, I discovered that the sconce that they sent me has no wiring. It's just a shell. I called the store and they tried to tell me that the sconce I purchased wasn't wired - that it must have been reflecting the light from nearby sconces. I'm not stupid, and I certainly would not have purchased a light from an antique store unless I was sure that it was in working order. This is clearly not the light I paid for. Now I have to pay an electrician to wire the one they sent me. Shop at your own risk. And never trust them to ship your purchases to you. read more

On the very very very pricey side, but the quality and range of selection seems justified if you have crazy money to spend. Even if you just pop in to browse, you'll find something that you've never seen before. Thus, making the trip totally worthwhile. You'll find old school door knobs, snowshoes, imported doors from India circa 1800s, church pews, grappling hooks, Mexican Coke machines, and statues of things you would never think people made statues of. The mirrors fashioned from old ceiling tiles were my favorite. Truly beautiful! When there, keep reminding yourself to look up because chandeliers and light fixtures hang from every inch of the ceiling. read more

This place has a ton of unique pieces and even more standards you've seen strewn about every antique market. The difference at Old Good Things is the astounding prices. I wanted one very simple hook for a coat rack. It was priced as if somebody's grandpa smuggled it in his ass throughout the entire second world war just to bring it back to America. The service was off as well. When asked for the price of another piece, the store's attendant nonchalantly flicked the item in question, then shat out a price at random. This store serves no worth past an eye candy store. You will have as equal a chance to take home an item from the Smithsonian as you do from this place. read more

On my long lunch break from jury duty, I wandered into this ye old store. Inside was a inclusive collection of seriously vampire aged goods; furniture, doors, knobs, fountains, bathtubs, light fixtures, statues, chairs, and plastic oddities. It turns out this store originated on twenty-fourth street in Chelsea, NYC and they specialize in goods from the northeast. Some of my fav's: - an original steel eight foot long propeller - art deco water fountain - marble old world bathtub - various sized ship lights Think Home Depot, but fifty years ago with high prices and lots of dust. read more

I stumbled upon these guys en route to something else a couple of years ago and literally burned rubber stopping so that I could park and go inside. They are a treasure trove of industrial furniture, reclaimed stuff, architectural elements, lighting, faucets, sconces, signs and more... come to find out they are actually based out of NY and frequently get crates full of goodies and are happy to include you on an email list to be informed of such forthcoming treasures. I went in there again today [after first going to their west-side location which has weird hours] to see if they wanted to buy some old doors I had and ended up spotting the coolest old chandelier that I just couldn't pass up. They're definitely streamlined in terms of how many people they have working there, and hence are pretty busy, but I really enjoyed speaking with Paul and Jay and I was completely pleased with the customer service they gave and the bargaining that ensued. Don't go here thinking you'll pay yard sale prices, but know that you will find fabulous treasures and will probably want to stay and wander for awhile. Dig it. :o) read more

having trolled the new york incarnation of olde good things, i had high expectations for this branch. indeed it carries a fine array of architectural salvage stuff as well as oddities from many eras. if you need a baroque snooker table, this is your go-to place. prices strike me as high for los angeles industrial district. they seem more appropriate to urban manhattan. i don't know if the owner has considered this. but i also don't know if bargaining is permitted -- i expect so. taking a friend here whose 1914 house burnt nearly to the ground last year, thanks mayor v. for cutting the fire house staffs. read more

This place is really cool. As legend has it, Quakers go into old cathedrals, train stations, hotels, etc. that are being renovated or torn down, and grab furniture, mirrors, tiles, oddities, etc. and refinish them and bring them to a state, not only of former glory, but a new level of reverence. Then, they sell it to you, here. I met two of the brothers that run the store, and they were very nice. They have some amazing and wonderful pieces. If you have a love for the old and odd, this place has some fantastic things. Definitely worth your time if you want to just look around, buy a cool piece for your home, or buy a cool gift for a person who love the unique. For what's there, the prices are pretty in-line with reality. I'll definitely be coming back here to get some more cool stuff. read more

I was so blown away with the quality of the antiques!! This was more like a prop house and every piece was displayed so you could actually see it. Most sites if this kind just jam the stuff in and you have to rummage around. Not here! The owner was so nice and helpful. I enjoyed talking with him about his store. I want to return because I found so many pieces I would love to own. The prices were really good too. They also do a lot of repurposing of old architecture which is beautiful. I needed two three paneled doors to outfit my older home to make it uniform. One was uncommonly odd shaped and the other was a normal sized door. Bob was extremely patient going through about 50 different doors until we found the right ones. (good salvage cop). He then directed me to Paul (tough salvage cop) who proceeded to help me barter my way to an agreed upon price (I had an extra three panel door in excellent condition that I no longer needed). I honestly feel that if I was a better negotiator, I could have saved about 20% more. I leave that tidbit to you Yelpers out there, so be advised. Great stuff, great employees, about 10-15% cheaper than Pasadena Architectural, and I like the Let's Make a Deal atmosphere. The problem with Olde Good Things is not the merchandise, which is spectacular, it's the virtually nonexistent customer service. By all means, patronize this place, but beware of any transaction including delivery or special orders. I placed a special order for a table, paid in full and waited the 2 months they specified for it to be made. The deal was that they would call when it was ready to arrange for delivery. They never called, so I finally contacted them and a delivery was made. The table arrived damaged (could have been prevented with $5 worth of bubble wrap!) so they took it back to repair. They never called to tell us when the repaired table would be delivered, and when we finally called them, they told us they were coming that day. Hello - give us a little advance notice, please! We told them to come several days later, when we would be home. The table was finally delivered and it's beautiful. But dealing with these guys took a lot of time and patience - buyer beware! read more

This place has a lot of great pieces and it seems like there is something around every corner. There were a few pieces of more "salvage" that were unique but for the most part typical antique/flea market fare. Parking is easy on the street and for the amount of stuff the place was not claustrophobic. I was a little surprised at the prices. They were decent for WestSide prices but seemed a little on the high side (even considering negotiation room) for a place that competing with Veteran's stadium and Rosebowl Flea markets. I am sure there are some good bargains with some digging but put on your negotiation glasses and make sure you get what you pay for. read more

They don't usually have any customers when I have been there, but it still feels like I'm unwelcome in there. Let's get back to the positives. I am an antique junkie and this place always makes me happy inside when I go! It's not inexpensive but they know how to get great architectural salvage pieces you just don't find anywhere. This last visit I wanted to buy a old giant tea kettle sign from a cafe that is long gone somewhere. They have doors, knobs, sinks, windows, large statues, cabinets, lighting, iron, mirrors, tables, benches... all with amazing character. The staff is quirky, and you may catch them on a unfriendly day but they seem busy making deals on more merchandise, so I'm cool with it. There is also a pot shop next door so sometimes I feel like I'm getting contact high while I shop, which is just a bonus I guess if you are into that sort of thing.
