A nightmare! Fatima, my stylist gave me a solid haircut, my second from her. I paid her and left. Then I started getting texts and finally a call that I left without paying I assured Fatima that I had paid her and where she was in the shop when I handed her the money. Finally the owner called arrogantly telling me he had me on tape not paying. I returned and watched the tape, which in great detail, showed me paying exactly as I described to Fatima. Maybe it was just the barber I had, maybe it was an off day, or maybe I am just in another multiverse but I can't fathom how everyone is giving this place 5 stars. I went in along with my FIL and BIL for a shave prior to my BIL's wedding. We had appointments for 9 am but I wasn't taken until 9:39. The barber who took me came in 2 or 3 minutes prior to working on me and did a pretty shitty rush job. On a simple beard trim, I was nicked 2 times on the neck and he did uneven work on the bottom of my beard. Even if I noticed that the beard was uneven at the time, I really wouldn't trust the guy who nicked me twice to fix it up and not nick me for a 3rd time. I can tell you that the aftershave he put on was not pleasant by any means due to the open cuts. If I wanted to potentially cut myself and do a poor job on own beard, I would of just saved me the 35 buck charge and done it myself. read more

I had to break up with my barber. His prices were good but the haircuts were getting worse. Great guy, though So, I started going to Old World and the quality of my haircuts definitely improved. Whereas with my former barber's haircuts started looking bad after three weeks, I can go 4-5 weeks between cuts at Old World. The haircut I got there just last week was exceptional. If I had to come up with a gripe, it would be calling for an appointment. I'm used to showing up on a whim at my former guy. Walk-ins generally work at old world but it's probably better to call ahead, in my experience. Old World's prices are higher but I'm going longer between cuts. Over time, I'm only spending a little more...but I'm getting better quality. read more

If I could give this place less than 1 star, I would. This place is the farthest thing from upscale. Was in the town and went in to inquire about a hot shave. Spoke to Joe in order to clarify questions I had about services. At the end of my conversation, I specifically asked Joe, in order to confirm, (who did the hot shave for my son) what payment methods they accept, even though it states on Yelp that they accept credit cards. Joe communicated to me that they accept credit cards as well as Apple Pay when I asked directly. His response was a resounding "yes." Made an appointment for my son (1 week later), however after the service was completed and it was time to pay, I was told by Dave that they do not accept credit cards or Apple Pay and payment is only by cash or check. First of all, who writes checks and second why was I told the wrong information. With that said, I did not have cash on me but was told by Dave that I could use the ATM in the place. Why should I pay a fee when your employee does not know what he is talking about? With that said, I had to leave and come back with the cash (extremely inconvenient as I don't even live in the area). When I came back, I again explained to Dave, I was given the wrong information and his response was one of he could care less. Did not even apologize or thank me for coming back. On Yelp, it states credit cards are accepted, yet after leaving the appointment and looking up the actual website, it states cash only. Makes no mention of accepting checks. Well, which is it? Also, their website has not even been updated as it has "2020" on it. It is now "2024." No cohesiveness. It's whatever the story is for the day. The website states a "vintage style shop." There is nothing vintage about it. Just because they have the old fashioned barber chairs, does not make it vintage. This place is a "money grab" not a true business. I am sure there are many other establishments, in the area that offer the same services but who are client centered. Dave is arrogant, disrespectful and runs a business that is far from high end. The quality of the hot shave was nothing special and the place itself was nothing special. The entire shave was a rush-rush job with no attention to detail. Honestly, I do not understand why anyone would come to this business for any service. It is truly overpriced and the service is non-existent. Save yourself the trouble, aggravation and being ripped off - find another place! read more

Bottom Line: Old World Shaving Parlor is a premium barber experience. A bit old school, a bit stylish, a bit premium, but great results. David here does a great job, never disappointed. All in all, I'm a fan of OWSP. The Deets: My regular barber I had when visiting Manhattan, David, moved out of working in the city, came down to Red Bank and works out of Old World Shaving Parlor now. I do get to come by and catch up with him once in a blue moon as I do go to nearby Asbury Park. Old World Shaving Parlor is a bit more upscale atmosphere than a normal barber shop. It lets you know you are in for a bit of a premium type experience just by the look of it. It has a nod to the old style type barber with a bit of style thrown in with it. Place looks nice and they sell good products... but my haircut and beard trim were very uneven and the place is not cheap. How do you charge $50 plus for a cut and beard trim (not including a shave), and not take credit cards. And how do you trim one side of the face straight and the other with a curve. read more

Save yourself the headache and money there over a dozen other "real" barbers in Redbank. This place was such a rip off I was charged $60 for a 20 minute haircut that was supposed to include my beard. The gentleman who I will not mention here as I don't believe he even has a barber certificate , gave one of the worst fades I've ever gotten, he clearly didn't know what he was doing. I was forced to go and get another haircut later on in the same day (for $25) around the corner to fix a half a dozen mistakes that were made to my very simple, medium fade request. The only reason I am writing this review is because of the price I was charged, there was no $60 service on the menu, It was completely made up, I was angry over the price but after I took a shower and saw the results of my haircut I became irate and feel everyone should know prior to entering this place. All men deserve to be indulged. Some, with women. Some, with whiskey. Some, with wine. Some, with a hand, razor shave and a warm (piping hot, actually) towel preceded, first, by a first class barber cut. You kinda get all four indulgences here. So, I'm staying at the Molly Pitcher Inn for (another) wedding (my brother's this time, again) and it's 3:30pm and pictures are at 4:30pm on a Saturday. So, I run into Red Bank and pray to the Barber & Beauty Gods (if there be Gods at all) that I might find a miracle: a Shave and a Haircut in less than 30 minutes so I can get back to the hotel room and shower, shampoo and shine my shoes after slipping into my new suit for pictures (admit it, you didn't think I was gonna say 'shine my shoes', but I digress...) So, back to the very real and true story on May 16th of 2009, where the Beauty Gods bestowed one of the best barber cuts and hand, straight razor shaves ever. Every bit as good as (gasp!) that love of my life: Frank's Chop Shop in NYC (Lower East Side). So, I walk in. I get offered some wine (nice!) by a lovely lady (very nice!) and then this brilliant barber comes swaying out to the sounds of Elvis and leads me to The Chair, surrounded by dark wood paneling and feeling every bit as swank as a cigar bar, except I'd leave that chair looking better than when I walked in. Who wouldn't love that? Best part: my barber LOVED what he does / did. He's the owner. Comes from like 42 generations of Italian? barbers. Seriously. Ok, not 42. But from a long line (his dad, his grandpa, etc.). And after his stints in military and corporate life, he went back to what he loved: being a barber. That's the kind of guy I want holding a straight razor to my neck, if I have to have a guy holding a straight razor to my neck. It rocked. All of it. Now, I'm a real, bona fide customer. I got paid nothing. I got nothing for free (but, dang, only $50 bucks for a straight razor, hand shave and a haircut and tip!!!). I just really loved my experience here that much and had no problem dropping a few Andrew Jacksons on the lovely lady at the counter. My only complaint: he hasn't advertised enough, cause if I'd known he was there I would have treated the male part of the wedding party to some cuts and shaves that day as a treat for my brotherly soon-to-be ex-bachelor and reserved the place for a few hours that afternoon for just us. He said he'd even do it for a wedding party, etc. Also said he was going to put a deck out back to lounge and drink and smoke cigars. Real men do that kinda stuff. Be a real man. Indulge yourself with some Old World lovin'. Bottom line: Great barber. Great atmosphere. Warning: This is NOT the kind of $8 barber cut where you go in and see Wayne, who's like 60, and then you get the same buzz cut everyone else got who has walked into that barber shop for the past 23 years. CLOSED I have been there about 4 times By far worth every penny He gives a GREAT haircut and the shave is a true indulgence and the best. I decided one afternoon to give Old World Shaving Parlor a try after passing by it a few times. I called and set up an appointment, and when I walked in my first thought was how beautiful the place is. Gorgeous woodwork and lighting gives the place a distinct "old world" look. I was greeted by Richard, who showed me to his chair and asked what I wanted done, and once I explained he started cutting. Richard is friendly and easy to talk with so we were discussing random topics the whole time he cut my hair. He took his time and it's obvious he's very skilled and is a perfectionist. The haircut was great. Then came the Old World Shave. If you haven't tried this, you really must. Some of the details may be a little hazy because it's so relaxing you probably will doze off during your shave. Richard leans the chair way back. Then there's hot lather from a machine, some hot towels on your face, a terrific shave with a real straight razor by a skilled barber, then some more towels, a cleanser mask, a cold towel, possibly some aftershave. There are so many steps I am sure I left something out, but at the end you feel great. You can't find service like this anymore, and when you find a good barber like Richard you stay with him. I've been there a few times and always look forward to my next visit. Sometimes I just go in for a shave to unwind after a bad day at work, and I'm always taken well care of. What a great experience. My husband has been going here for about 2 years. The barbers and receptionist have always been very friendly and welcoming. When our son needed his first haircut we brought him here too. The gentleman who did the haircut also has small kids and knew exactly how to work with a nervous kid. My little guy didn't want to sit in the chair or take off his sunglasses. They let me sit in the chair and hold him and he got to keep the glasses on the whole time. The barber worked quickly to ensure they could complete the cut. At the end they spiked his hair and gave him a lolli-pop. We were all thrilled. read more

They are having a 10 year anniversary and are treating their customers to a complimentary hot towel shave and a hand rolled cigar with every haircut. About a year ago, I went here for the first time and was seen by Charles (apparently no longer working there). My beard trim was expertly done and Charles listened and understood my wants and concerns (I always trim my own beard and am very particular). I went for the second time yesterday and was seen by the owner David. I got in the chair and explained what I wanted and made it clear (or so I thought) he was not to touch my mustache, except for some minor touch up on the outside. I was concerned as David seem distracted by his espresso that he was drinking and by his conversations with others in the shop. Well, he buzzed half my mustache off (which he had to do on the other side to even it out) and shaved/trimmed my beard unevenly. My neck and cheeks still had stubble even though he used a straight razor. THOROUGHLY DISSATISFIED and DISAPPOINTED! He didn't even apologize for destroying my mustache which took seven months of growing and training. WILL NOT be going back. read more

I've been going here every 3-4 weeks with my son, first he gets a cut and then he sits on my lap as I get one. Everyone is friendly and personable without going over the top (I've found that lots of barbers and hairstylists fancy themselves as Cedric the entertainer from barbershop, skip the comedy routine and the nuisance distractions and flirtations with the other staff members, it's annoying and childish). They cut hair and they do it well in an enjoyable environment -- friendly for kids and adults. Two thumbs up! read more

First, Ricardo, Jordan, Claudio and Enzo are great, Sicilian-trained, and give great scissor cuts and are excellent with a razor! And there was a great vibe here - a Men's Club, complete with Mens' magazines and bottles of Cognac. But, it's becoming overrun with moms and their little kids - both are loud and disruptive, who appear to have turned it into a playdate, and they're in danger of losing that club feel. I no longer see the Cognac or magazines, now I have to plug in headphones to block out the noise and navigate around kids. I gave up and walked out this last time 30 minutes after my appointment time had passed, while one kid in the barber chair was having a melt-down refusing a haircut and wasting everyone's time. read more

Consider this another glowing review of this place. When I lived in Highlands, this was my go to barber shop. I wish I could still make the trip just for a haircut! The place is a great mix of classic old school and modern barbershop. If you're waiting you can watch tv, read a magazine or even have a drink. Ricardo and Jordan do great work. They know what you want and know what looks good. They finish off the haircut with a straight razor with warm shaving cream to the back of the neck, and around the hairline which is a very nice touch. The price isn't bad and I'm kind of disappointed I never got the chance to get a shave and haircut (Sweeney Todd) but maybe I'll get back there someday. The whole place just has a friendly old school vibe and it just looks like how you would imagine an old world barber shop would look. They take appointments but don't go solely by them. I never made one and never waited longer than 15 minutes. This is a great place that I can't recommend enough. read more

The barber Enzo very nice guy. But didn't understand what I wanted. He also would of left areas of my hair unaddressed if I didn't say anything. My left side looks a little sharper than the right. Very expensive too. But no one was rude everyone was nice. If I go again I may try another barber but personally I feel there too expensive. read more
