I visited for the first time on Friday, September 12. The day before, I spoke with a young woman who booked me an 11:00 a.m. appointment with Stew H. Once we figured out exactly what I wanted--a high and tight--he got to work. I told him I wanted to look like Sgt. Carter from Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., but he was a bit too young to catch the reference. I described it to him, and--bingo! He asked, "A high and tight?" That was it. Stew took his time, nailed the cut, and I honestly look better now than I have since the show was on the air. My son and I are so happy that Phil and Jay have opened their own place. They make a great team and their passion shines through their work. That passion has translated into the design of the shop. The high end look and the features they've implemented definitely separates it from other places. They even have play areas for kids, coffee station etc. They've done an amazing job. Jay was my original barber when I first moved to Middletown 4 years ago and soon started cutting my son when he was just over 1yr. old. He's always done a tremendous job and works very well with kids. My son is always excited to come back. I'm most appreciative of Jay's communication and professionalism. It's great to have such a reliable barber that provides the level of service that you receive. Phil is also a fantastic barber that provides the same level of elite service. Been nervous about going to a new barber for a while, but figured I'd try this place out after looking at pics, reviews and seeing the price was only 18 compared to some other places that were 40-50. 40-50 for a guys haircut is absurd. Made and appointment with Phil and he was awesome. Gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever had and took his time while doing it. Atmosphere was very welcoming and I didn't feel uncomfortable at any point throughout the cut. Surprised I had never heard of this place before considering its so close to my house. I'll definitely be coming back for another cut soon. All of the barbers seem very skilled and I wouldn't mind who cut my hair. Overall a great experience. I decided to get a haircut here because this place has such stellar reviews, but they don't mean much, this place is at best average. The people are pretty friendly and nice, but I felt that the place lacks professionalism. They were slow to respond to me when I entered and what was strange was that as my hair was being cut, all of the barbers were talking among themselves. Now I'm not going there for a conversation but all of this made it feel like she wasn't paying attention to my hair and almost working mechanically. In the end, I wasn't really pleased with the cut, she took too much off. But all of this is fine, what really disappointed me was what happened after. So they only accept cash, and in this age, that is super inconvenient. I didn't have any with me at the time but they were pretty chill about it and asked me to come by the next day. I drive by in the morning on my way to work around 9 am give or take 10mins, and they seemed closed, granted I did not go over to check, I decided to come by another day. Now I should have called them to let them know, but this was the day before Thanksgiving and with the travelling I was doing at the time I forgot. A day after Thanksgiving they get in touch with me, and after telling them that I'll come by when I'm back in town, they threatened to report me to the local police if I don't come by the next time. I was shocked. I accept that I should have communicated better, but to threaten a customer (and a potentially recurring too) for the grand sum of $18? They tell me that they only take cash because their prices are too low but apparently high enough for potential police involvement. I was going to pay double to compensate for the delay but was so annoyed I really didn't want to go there again. Turns out they accepted Venmo, which they could have told me in the first place. I'm sure they are perfectly fine people but this to me speaks volumes of their character. If you do decide to visit, I hope you have a good time. But personally, I'm never going there again. read more
