MILITARY FAMILIES BEWARE!!!!! I would give this company no stars if I could. We are an active duty military family that is needing to move on a compassionate reassignment orders. My husband has stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma Cancer. Because of the pending government shutdown at the time, the military transportation office told us we needed to book our own movers and that it could be put on our GTC. Old Town Van Lines was truly outstanding in customer service at first. Jason whom booked my reservation was so helpful. He quoted our move to include the company packing at $11,000. We signed the contract and paid a deposit of $3,890. The night before the moving company was to come, they then said our move was going to be $20,000 and that was not including the deposit we already paid. So we immediately contacted Old Town Van Lines and when my husband spoke to Lisa she was rude and mean and told us that we were losing our deposit and there was nothing we could do about it. They have since stopped answering our phone calls. We are out $3,890 and my goal is to get this company black listed from being able to work with military families. We are now left scrambling with needing to report to our duty station on October 17th and no way to move our things. This company is nice at first and then ugly and greedy! Please trust the negative comments you read on every review. They try to defend themselves in the response but they know what they are doing. Update: I'm not convinced people leaving good reviews are real people! They could be AI reviews or if they are money is no object to them. But it's a little suspicious that all their good reviews were left on the same day or within 2 days of each other. We completely lost out on the deposit we paid them because they very sneakily word their contracts. We were able to move but again not without losing money. Their Yelp reviews also include what happened to me with other people. I am continuing to pursue them getting black listed from even doing quotes with the Military community. It's truly disgusting what greed has done to America and Old Tan Van Lines is the poster child of corporate greed. If the owners replies to everyone doesn't show the immaturity and lack of professionalism I'm not sure reading this review or any is worth your time. Whatever this body cam is they claim to have is fake but even if it's real I have nothing to hide. We have nothing to hide. How can things be added when no one came to access the house in person? This company is a complete scam from start to finish. The estimate was given over the phone and my mother ended up paying $1000 more upon arrival of the movers. During the move the leg of an antique piece of furniture was completely snapped off and taped back together in hopes of trying to hide the break. (see pics for the condition it was left in after the mover "fixed" it) In attempting to be reimbursed for this damage, as well as a couple missing items, the owner was downright rude and verbally abusive over the phone and gave the name of a claims company who doesn't even work with them to file the claim. The phone is never answered and voicemails are infrequently returned. I have moved many, many times and have never witnessed such unprofessionalism. Today is the one-year anniversary of the worst move of my life, I don't even know where to start. They are not a moving company. They are scam artists. They subcontracted our move to another company without our knowledge. The other company charge us thousands more we had to move that day and had no other choice and no other options. So we had to pay extra. They broke our stuff they showed up late 4 hours late, showed up hung over With two less movers than they said they would. Old town offices are closed on weekends so I couldn't call to complain. We moved from Virginia to Florida and was forced to drive overnight. Otherwise they would charge us another thousand dollar. They kept threatened to charge more money to unload my stuff into a storage unit when I finally got tired of it and threatened to call the police. I told them just leave everything outside and I'll take it in Myself. Now I have knee problems and need surgery. Old town blames the other company for all these problems, even though they took our money. To this day, I'm still in pain from a year previous. It's pretty low that a company would scam a first responder and a purple heart veteran out of thousands of dollars. We called a lawyer. NEVER HIRE THIS COMPANY!!! I hired Old Town Van lines out Daytona to move my wife and I from Ocala to New York City recently. We just got our delivery the other day and the company they subcontracted to do the actual move either damaged, broken, or missing almost all of our belongings. Among the broken items are TWO of my flat screen TV's that were smashed (both were carefully packed BTW) all of my speakers were damaged, some beyond repair, our dresser and bed were all scratched up. They even broke the plastic base of an office chair! How the heck does that happen?!? Jason from Old Town Van Lines (our direct contact) hasn't responded to an email I sent him 2 days ago detailing all of this (I'm guessing he never will respond) and the subcontracted company representative said only that we were supposed to "make an insurance claim". The move ended up costing me 3X what I was originally quoted, including an extra 4 thousand on moving day. After numerous attempts to contact them , I was called back by someone who identified himself as the owner (will not share first name), he and I came to a settlement by phone to be completed the following week. The worse moving company I have ever used. They actually are a broker advertising as an interstate moving company. After my original contact with them, We had health issues in our family and our home which we were moving to was not ready so we had to delay the original move dates. A final date was established and the final estimate giving so that there would be no surprises I even provided then with pictures of what was to be moved. The final cost was $ 5,371.87 of which I had already paid down $ 1,006.88. So payable at the move was to be $ 4,374,88. To my surprise a 26 ft. rented Penske truck and 2 men from a third party company from Clifton, New Jersey, named Salas Moving and Storage showed up to move our belonging out of our 1,900 sq. foot 3 bedroom home. Too small a truck and undermanned. then they demanded I pay them with a certified check for $ 7,500 plus another $ 500 in cash or my furniture would not be unloaded. Along with that the Salas movers were very rude and throughout the move which would now take 3 days just to move us 40 miles. My wife and I are both elderly and the intensive mood of the entire move took a toll on us. The movers rather than take a 3rd day to move us were instructed to unload the truck ,put everything in the garage and come home. They still had a piano, refrigerator ,washer/dryer, 2 tv's ,1 large mirrow and several misc. items to move from the home which they did not move. I had to pay another company over a $ 1,500 to complete the move. To make matters worse, I sent Old Town Movers by certified mail a demand letter asking for retribution. We hired Old Town to move our custom furniture from Texas to New Mexico. They charged us extra for crating fees, etc. The guys that arrived to pack the items seemed great. They assured us they would be blanketing, crating and keeping everything safe. They upcharged us several times for various special services (like crating). What happened in reality is that they took our stuff to an un-climate controlled storage bin and threw it in. Then they hired another company, with a worn-out 18-wheeler and Russian driver (not kidding) who spoke little English, to actually deliver the items. The simply threw our antique and collectible furnishings into the back of the 18-wheeler and took off. When our furniture arrived, legs were broken off, there were large gauges in the wood, and it was not good. This was Bianchini and similar pieces, which again, we paid extra for their white glove treatment. Old Town requires payment in either cash, or by Zelle. Now I know its to avoid charge-backs from credit cards, or damage claims being placed through cardholder agreements. They guys that delivered the stuff apologized profusely, stating that they say things like this all the time. They were day laborers that Old Town "hired" to unload the truck. From what I can tell, these guys promise a lot, but then broker your load to other less reputable carriers, and use whoever they can find cheaply to unload. DO NOT USE THEM!!!!! WORST movers I have ever had!!! LISA was kind on the phone when we reduced our item to be moved by them and told us our $2800 deposit will be deducted off the final price!! SHE LIED that NEVER happened! The movers showed up 3 1/2 hours late and told us we had to pay another $4000!!!! Movers damaged many pieces of furniture and couldn't figure out how to get a few pieces of furniture in our rooms! I have pictures before and after! Also, have photos of movers truck where most furniture did not even have blankets! To start we had a 2-day window for pick up. Day one they called us and said we will be there on Wednesday between 1 and 4 pm, never showed up. Owner stated we will be there in the morning at 9 Am, did not make it the day before because of the weather, no worries we understood, and we understood because we had a 2-day window for pick up. We got up at 6 Am they did not show up at 9pm. The company does not open until 10am to be able to speak to anyone, try to call them after they have your money, good luck! All day back and forth with the owner with a guarantee they would arrive with 6 people to load the truck quickly as we were closing on the house at 8 a.m. the next morning and had to be out. between 4 and 5 PM. they showed up at 8:30 pm with only the driver, 30 Minutes in, one more man arrived followed by a second man about 45 minutes later making it a total of 3 they finished loading the truck near midnight. the three men are in my driveway near midnight and the next thing we know the police show up at our home asking for the homeowner, and why did we call 911, we did but the driver called because the 3 men were going to fight in our driveway. I'm sure this is what everyone wants in front of their neighbors at midnight. Finally, this nightmare was over, and we felt that this can only get better from here, WE WERE SO WORNG! First, we were told they would now arrive on Friday night with our whole house full of stuff. they arrived Saturday around 6 PM. with only the driver to unload the truck. My son, my wife and I had to help this man unload his 26' truck were in our 60's. he dropped or damaged many of our items, they owner would hear none of it threatened to leave with much of our belonging, but did promise us a $300.00 refund and to this day 2 weeks later the spinless owner who by the way hides behind his phone and does not have the balls to speak directly to you is a total liar! They lease Penski trucks so they can drive right by the agricultural check points in Florida. The drivers do not have CDL license to drive a commercial vehicle. Hello folks, This is George Schwartz, job # Z6769584 We moved on Wednesday 7/12/23 and the move itself went well, aside from a hole on the back of the leather couch, mover conveniently put the couch against the wall so was not noticed till the following day. What I am horrified at was the charges. When first speaking to Jason, In early May, I went through every room and was inventoried by phone and was quoted $3,644.41 On July 10, 2 days before the move, together with Lisa we inventoried by phone and updated the price to $6,580.65. Understandable. I was told that I had gone from 1/2 truck full was now full truck. Never heard from Lisa again. Driver of truck contacted me on 7/11 and scheduled pick up 7/12 by noon. Truck arrived on time on Wednesday 7/12, and driver (Musa) did a quick walk through and proceeded to inform me that I had more than quoted and it would now by a truck full (according to Lisa I was already paying for a full truck) And the updated price was now $9,943.50 He had me over a barrel; no money no load up. BEWARE! My daughter & I hired this company to move her from SC to TN. All was going smoothly until the day of the move. We were contacted to let us know the crew would show up between 12 & 4 pm. After a few calls, they finally arrived at 10:38 pm. We were told the movers would be in and out before she had to vacate the premises but that was not the case. We did take advantage of the 30 days free storage while she found a place to live in TN. Once the truck was packed, the movers drove the truck to GA to a storage unit. Only one piece of furniture was wrapped. They broke the coffee table deliberately to make it fit into the storage unit. The rest of the furniture was scratched, marred, dirtied and ripped. Once our daughter had a place to go, we attempted to call several times to get a delivery date with no answer. Finally we were able to reach the owner, Daniel and he tentatively set our date for the next week and would call a day or two before with the specifics. On the day of delivery, Daniel called to inform us that the truck would not be showing up and hoped it would be a day or two. He also informed us twice that her move would be free for all the trouble going on behind the scene and he would be refunding the full amount we had paid to date. We were told that the ex-employees were holding her possessions hostage. Several weeks go by, still no furniture, no refund, and the storage unit with her possessions was locked for auction due to lack of payment for the unit. My daughter was able to get a hold of the movers who loaded the truck. They agreed to let us in the unit for the rental fee due. We showed up with a U-Haul to gather her possessions. It took some time and Daniel did pay the rental unit fees. During this whole time Daniel stayed in contact with us but now that we have her possessions, he has ghosted us. Refusing to answer the phone, text messages or emails. Daniel is not a not a man of his word and BEWARE before hiring this company. They may tell you they are a "van line", but that is far from the truth. They are a moving BROKER. They do not even own a fleet of trucks, they own only ONE truck.
