Came here for gas to use my Giant fuel rewards. I pressed regular, and began pumping. I looked back at the pump - the pump is pumping out V-Power gas which isn't required for my vehicle & was NOT what I selected: Because I needed gas & already entered my info to get .10/gal I pumped for a full tank which charged me $36.35 at pump #3. I told the clerk the issue, she was clueless and unhelpful. Pointed to the shell customer service sign, have to wait until normal business to file a complaint. Will follow through, paid about $10 more in gas that I usually would. Will never use this location again. read more

Yes - we failed our inspection, but were able to get tire replacements from them quickly (and for not too much more than we would have spent elsewhere). Once resolved we passed inspection and were compliant.. So why the glowing review? Jay and team are helpful, courteous, knowledgeable and go out of their way to ensure you, the consumer, are aware of any issues. (I was shown on the spot the tire problem.). The pricing was transparent and they were able to turn around the tire replacements and renewed inspection quickly. Review is for an emission inspection; cost over $40 which is price gouging for this area. Most places will not charge more than $30 for a vehicle (mine is a 2019 with under 30k miles). Consistently the cheapest option in downtown Alexandria. However, some pumps are old and I have had problems with the trigger not engaging (either not being able to pump or splashing gas from from my vehicle). There are also several warning signs to keep your car locked while you pump gas. Fine choice of gas stations just pay attention to what you're doing and your surroundings. read more

Great people over here, they are quick, efficient, and know what they're doing. I've come to this place multiple times for some custom aftermarket work on my truck and they've never let me down. If you have work that you need done that other shops refuse to do, I would definitely reach out. Everything that's been done to my truck has been done professionally and with care. They schmooze you with "my friend" and "my buddy" language, IMO, just to get close enough to you in order to gouge you. When a garage does this to me, I never, never, ever, ever return. I was having a small issue with my car that I wanted checked out. I came to this place because it's conveniently located and I've gotten oil changes there previously, without issue. Instead of listening to me and checking out what was going on with my car, the manager pressured me into getting an oil change I did not need. He even looked in the system himself and saw that I had just come there for one 2 months prior. Low and behold, after inspecting the issue I asked them about in the first place, they found out that I needed an AC filter. That's it. Listen to your customers when they tell you they don't need something done. I understand that it's a business and money needs to be made, but you will lose customers by treating people this way. read more

If I could give them a zero I would. Called for a state inspection and the owner told me to be there by 2:15pm because he closes at 4pm. I arrived at 2:10 and the cashier declined services stating the business stop doing inspections at 2:00pm. I asked the owner and the cashier to honor what was told me over the phone, still no help. This is totally unacceptable because I spoke with the owner 20 prior to 2:15pm. The website states the business closes at 3pm yet the owner said he stops state inspections at 4pm. read more

BEWARE. I took my Toyota here for a safety inspection, and the inspector failed the vehicle because "the power pump was leaking" and "the right wheel was playing". I knew these were bogus safety issues, and the mechanic was attempting to generate business dishonestly for unnecessary work (which would have cost thousands to repair), so I took my SUV to a different automotive center that same afternoon, and (not surprisingly) these expensive mechanical issues were not cited in the second safety report. I successfully disputed the $16 that Shell charged me for their faulty (deceitful) inspection with my credit card company, so the "only thing" I lost was the inconvenience of it all, and about an hour of my time. I do plan to file a report with the Better Business Bureau as a warning to others. Don't let the smile and the small talk of this inspector/mechanic (initials FD) fool you! read more

Stopped in for a flat tire and safety inspection. Charles, Service Manager, was great. After inspection of the car (kia optima), I needed two new tires. Charles priced me out the same tire but I didn't care for them to match esp at a higher cost. I asked him for cheaper options and he had no issues calling back the tire shop for more affordable options. He was able to set me up with something much cheaper. I left the car there and it was ready 3-4 hours later. I was able to pick it up before the shopped closed but apparently you can pick up your car after hours till 10pm. Really helpful if your work schedule isn't flexible. Other times when I get gas, the service techs are always willing to help you put air in your tires and etc. Great team over there. Can I give this review 6 stars?? My fiat (luckily) broke down next door to Old Town Shell. I didn't have my jumper cables with me, so I walked over to the shop, and Charlie was kind enough to walk over to my car with me. He managed to get my car started, and realized that it only needed a new battery. Charlie and his team happened to have a fiat battery in stock (!!!), changed it immediately, and had me on my way ASAP. I am so lucky to have broken down right next door, and it was even luckier that Old Town Shell happened to be open on a holiday- they even got me back on the road when they were starting to close up for the night. Their prices were also very fair. I cannot thank you enough! I recommend that everyone check out this little shop if your car is in need of some service. read more

While my granddaughter and I were visiting Alexandria today, my car battery died. A friend suggested I call Old Town Shell. I spoke with Charlie. He told me he would sent one of his guys to jumpstart my car. I was three blocks away and within minutes a mechanic came on foot to start my car. After we got my car started, we drove back to the station. They had a new battery put in my car and I was on the road again in less than 30 minutes. I agree with Lance S's post. The mechanic(s) seem shady when it comes to state inspections. I was told two years in a row that my front suspension/tie rod(s) was loose and didn't pass inspection. The first time I fell for it and paid for the repairs. This year I took my car to a different inspection station, and three of their mechanics could not find a single thing wrong with my suspension. No matter how convenient their location, I will not go back to this Shell. read more

Figured it out right away - turned out the spare was low and the pressure indicator was triggered. Great service, friendly, fast and great price! Gas also a good deal with the Fuel Rewards program. The staff here was very helpful. I called them to inquire about inspections, and the gentleman answering the phone was very polite and answered all my questions. I later met him in person when I drove my car over, and again, super courteous and helpful in assisting me, as was the mechanic who oversaw my inspection. I believe their names were Misha and Dean, respectively. Dean and one of his staff showed me what part was cracked and needed to be replaced, and gave an estimate for parts and labor. Charlie and his team of mechanics are simply amazing. With that being said, I've found my new automobile repair shop. I normally stop by for gas but last month, I was one day away from having a dead inspection. One of the mechanics noticed and gave me a coupon. After mentioning how I had been taking my 2010 Mazda 3 to a very well-known shop near my employer on Braddock, and the persistent problem I was still having (shaky steering wheel, unbalanced tires and crappy "front end alignment") they offered to take a look when I was ready. Let's just say I've fallen in love with my car all over again. I was disappointed to know that a key bolt wasn't tightened from the well-known shop, as well as the problem I was having was an easy fix..... This is long overdue, but a month or so ago we took our car over to Bradham Motors in Old Town Alexandria. They charged us for the initial diagnostic (which they told us up front but didn't it deduct from later labor costs) and then gave us a cost estimate that sounded excessive. I called Old Town Shell for a second opinion, they said they could knock at least a hundred dollars off Bradham's price. We took the car over, and they were able to see car in a timely way, gave me updates on any small surprises, and were generally just very friendly. They fixed our air conditioner and radiator, and ultimately I think we saved at least $200 over going to Bradham. read more

Good professional work. Brought my Mustang here a couple times and have been very happy with the work they've done for me.

We went to here to get an oil change and alignment for our 2012 Chevy Cruz (with coupon- $70 for synthetic oil change and oil filter and $80 for alignment) Charlie was great, and we recommend going to him for any and all auto repair issues. Charlie was friendly and professional. After I dropped off our car, Charlie called me with some recommended services (change the engine air filter $30 and cabin air filter $24). After doing some googling, I agreed the filters should be replaced because they had never been changed and the car had 57,000 miles. Charlie also offered other services such as cleaning the rear brake drum. He said this service was not required but in very limited circumstance could cause the emergency break to not be as effective. I declined this service after some additional googling. I never felt that Charlie was pressuring me to accept the service or trying to make me feel ignorant. Charlie says his labor rate is the best in old town; I cannot confirm that but he did provide good customer service. There was also a $6 "supply charge" on my bill, and Charlie explained that this was an automatic charge (% of total bill) to cover the cost of incidentals such as the rags used to wipe the vehicles, degreasers, and I guess the vacuums to clean the cars. Seemed odd but he let me use two coupons at once, my car was vacuumed, and the waiting room had free coffee, so I could not complain. Overall, I recommend giving Charlie a chance for any auto issues from an oil change and inspection to rebuilding your engine. read more

I picked this station based on the good reviews here and am so happy I did. I got my state inspection and emissions here in February, quick and easy and NO LINE even at the end of the month! I've been scammed getting a state inspection before so I'm always leery. Then today I went back for an oil change. They took me right away, completed it quickly and didn't try to sell me anything. They did recommend a new air filter which I agreed to, but I don't doubt for a minute that I needed a new one. And the price was reasonable and beats me running to Auto Zone and replacing it myself. read more
