This practice is extremely rigid - oddly, it's cash or check only, limited video visits (payment must be received up front and I had online visits sometimes denied all together during what the receptionist described as some sort of audit). Billing has been chaotic, with refunds needed. Dr B is nice, professional, but the lack of office flexibility is off-putting and out of keeping with most professional medical offices of this type I have experienced. Visits are 15 mins or less, about $260 for medication management. Very pill focused. I would chose an online only provider for the same service, with more flexibility, and avoid the hassle. read more

Dr Biebuyck is an amazing doctor. I've been seeing him for nearly 3 years and he has helped me a lot with my problems. Wether it might be trying a different drug, decreasing or increasing the dosage. I've seen a huge difference with myself and others have as well. All I can say is that I'm in a better place than I was before. As for the front office the secretary is nice but it's a lil old fashion. They don't have a cash register and they only accept cash. Overall, I'd recommend this place. read more

First off Janet is very polite and always on her game. Anytime I call to find out when my appointment is, she super nice and helpful as I tend to have issues writing appointments down. Thank you Janet for always being so helpful. Dr. Biebuyck is an outstanding doctor. He doesn't just write prescriptions and send you on your way. When I have asked questions so that I can understand exactly how things work as far as medication and possible side effects he is super knowledgeable on everything. Always gives me more than enough information so I feel comfortable about what is going on. I truly believe that he cares about me and my situation. My wife also sees dr. Biebuyck and the both of us agree we would never see another doctor. So in closing thanks again Janet and dr. Biebuyck for all your help. myself and my family appreciate you very much! read more

I've been seeing Dr. Lai for a few months now, and I'm grateful that I chose her - pretty much blindly - as my first psychiatrist. It's hard to find reviews of psychiatrists and therapists online, thanks to the stigma surrounding mental health and medications. So I'm writing this review to counteract that. I'm also writing because I'm tired of people being continuously told that they're weak and lesser than for seeking help. And I'm tired of our culture shaming people for even considering medication. Yes, drugs are serious. Yes, sometimes an alternate solution is best. Yes, finding the right one can be a crapshoot and a terrible ordeal. I won't lie to you about this, and neither will Dr. Lai. I waited for months to see a doctor because I was afraid of what would happen if I started taking medications. Some of these fears were valid, but let me tell you that some - fueled by a misunderstanding of what meds are going to do - just held me back from reclaiming my life. Meds aren't magic happy shiny pills, IMO what they do is reduce the amplitudes of your highs and/or lows, the really bad parts, so you can focus on getting better, changing your circumstances, or just plain living your life. Which is not to say it's EASY -- some meds have pretty bad side effects, and you may have to ride the "med-go-round" a few times until you find the specific medication and dosage that's right for you. Just do your research (try crazymeds.us), go in with eyes open, and don't be afraid to advocate for what you need. You can do this. If you're reading this because you're looking for a psychiatrist, I want you to know this: whether or not you choose Dr. Lai and whether or not you decide that medication is one of the ways you're going to survive, and conquer - I am glad you're looking for solutions, moving forward, and doing something for yourself. And if you do decide to see a psychiatrist, choose someone who respects your choices and listens to your concerns, someone you can trust. You deserve nothing less. On to the review. As an adult, here is what I experienced with Dr. Lai: I waited 4-6 weeks for an initial appointment, which she treated as a consultation. We discussed my options and she wrote me a (generic) prescription, but told me to go home and think about it. Follow-up appointments have been much easier to get, and with the exception of the 2 week second appointment, she's asked me to return every 4-6 weeks, as I've been doing reasonably well on my prescription. To me, Dr. Lai's philosophy on medication is to start as gently as possible with low doses of the most commonly tolerated medications, and then slowly increase or change as necessary. If she thinks you should wait awhile before deciding to take a medication (e.g. if you are depressed because of a very recent event), she will let you know. She's also very open to discussing your options re: complementary treatments and approaches to mental health. All of this is to say that she is most definitely NOT a pill-pusher. As a doctor, she listens well, sets reasonable expectations, pays attention to other aspects of treatment and health, and clearly has her patients' well-being and recovery as a goal. I can't say whether her style will work for everyone, but I trust her conservative approach to psychiatry and can say that it's worked well for me. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Biebuyck for 2 years and he is a great doctor. Always knowledgeable and up to date about the latest medications. He really listens and is open to discussing non- medication alternative treatments like acupuncture, TMS and dietary supplements. Also has great therapist referrals if you need one. Efficient and discrete office in a convenient location in the theater district of Pasadena. Office staff is polite and helpful about insurances. Janet gets medications approved super fast(unlike my previous doctor's office who were horrible). Highly recommended. read more

Based on my experiences of having had sessions by different psychologists and psychiatrists during different periods of my life (childhood, college & post-college). This office in particular is the type of place where you'll feel rushed and leave the office feeling no different than when you initially came in. I had my initial session with Dr Biebuyck then more sessions with Dr. Clarence Leung and it always felt as if I was talking to a wall. Don't expect sympathy to your personal internal struggles here. To everyone that's currently in treatment and feel this place is working for you, all power to you, keep doing what works for you. On the other hand, I would not recommend this place if you're new and in the process of searching for a place to get psychiatric services. Ive been to other places that will give you more value for your money than you will get here. This place is cash-only and I've received sloppy handwritten receipts that are not traceable to the service I received. The only reason this review earned a 2-star rating was because Janice, the receptionist, was extremely accommodating and polite. read more

I had a strange feeling that something was sketchy when I called to make my first appointment with Dr. B and he had immediate and plentiful openings. He probably loses half of his patients based on the strange doctor/receptionist marriage/folie a deux between him and his gatekeeper Janet. While it's his responsibility in the end, since he keeps her on staff, It's the duck-billed receptionist about whom I have issue. She is not only rude and caustic -- I've caught her in a few "mistruths" over the last several months. Her only remedy to being caught in a lie is to double down and lie some more. When these disparities are brought to the attention of Dr. B, he simply refuses to consider there is anything amiss and "fires" his patients with a standard, boiler-plate termination letter. The effect is chilling especially for the vulnerable who seek mental health care. It's ironic that someone with an obvious personality disorder works for a psychiatrist, where kindness and empathy should be prerequisites for a job. Quack! to her -- don't subject yourself to this mind-warp, and best find a more professional provider with a professional, humane staff. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Clarence Leung for about 8 months now and he has really helped my depression and anxiety. He's a great listener and provides many helpful suggestions to help me raise my daughters the right way. Highly recommend. read more

Dr. B and his office staff are in some sort of money laundering scheme. First they stop taking my insurance, ok I'll pay for my service out of pocket, then they ask for CASH-ONLY and cannot ever seem to produce a receipt. The visit was $180.00 and if I needed a note for my job that was another $180.00 all cash with NO RECEIPT! ! Once I started becoming adamant about a receipt Dr. B explains he can no longer help me and refers me to another psychiatrist who has never heard of him. I was left with no receipts and no way to prove I had paid cash out of pocket for months of services. Beware ! read more

Dr Biebuyck is a great doctor. However, the staff at Old Town Psychiatric is the worst staff I've ever come across. Unfortunately for Dr. Biebuyck, the staff is keeping patients away from him. I do not recommend going to this office. Please do not go. There are many other offices who will value you as a patient and treat you in a professional matter. Old Town Psychiatric is not that place, they are disrespectful, unprofessional, and have no regard for giving care to the patient. After being mishandled by the staff continuously and aggressively, I am left with wondering how they keep patients. The practice of a doctor is to give care to a patient in need and not shove them around, therefore I believe the staff of a doctor's office must help carryout this mission. I do not recommend them. I do however believe that Dr. Biebuyck is a fine and kind doctor and should leave this office and go to another office so he can grow his practice without the aggressive and unusual behaviors of the staff. read more

I have been seeing Dr Biebuyck for 10 years now and have always been extremely satisfied. He is patient and approachable. He really listens and offers helpful insights when I am telling him what is going on. I originally saw him in an office in Glendora and when he went to Old Town Psychiatric I followed him. It is a drive but well worth it. I don't understand what happened to Tim N. who said they don't accept insurance because I have never had a problem with that and still don't. They accept my insurance without any problem. I am thankful to have been referred to Dr Biebuyck! read more

I'm baffled at how a psychiatrist can operate this way. After being a patient for a year and never even been late to an appointment, they wanted to charge me a fee for a missed appointment that I didn't have on my calendar. They "don't do call outs" so I wasnt aware of the appt and they wanted to charge me 80.00 for no show. After explaining it to the doctor, he wasnt willing to budge and said if I didn't pay (for no service provided) he'd refer me to a different doctor. I'll gladly take my business elsewhere and recommend you do as well. If you look at the few reviews, theres a common theme here. It's a shame. read more

First, I never actually was able to receive service here, from either doctor, but here is my experience: Called to make an initial appointment, and an appointment was set after confirming that my insurance was accepted there. Several days later, I get a call saying that the office is cash only, and when I respond that this information wasn't indicated anywhere the receptionist offers to cancel my appointment. I respond that I'd like to keep the appointment and will work out the insurance details on my end, asking if I would be able to get a superbill. The receptionist explains that no, I cannot, but she would give a "detailed receipt" I asked if most insurance companies take that, and she responded with a "maybe". I call my insurance and square out the details, and am ready to go. 30 minutes later, I get a call from the receptionist saying that Dr. Biebuyck is no longer accepting new patients, and my appointment has been cancelled. I asked why, and was told again that my appointment was cancelled. I asked if Dr. Lai had any appointments, and was told that no, she too was no longer accepting new appointments. The receptionist asked if there was anything else she could help me with, and I responded with a, "I don't know, is there?" She said no and hung up. So... I cannot rate their quality of service, but I am left feeling as if I did something wrong and have been blacklisted by both the doctors because... because... I don't even know. If you are looking for psychiatric services, know that apparently this office is a) cash only, and b) not accepting new patients. Best of luck and hope you don't say the wrong thing to make them mad at you. read more

Dr. Lai is the best! I've been seeing her for nearly four years. She is prompt (the most I've ever waited was 3 or 4 minutes), has friendly and helpful staff, and always listens. She is very knowledgeable & professional while also approachable and reassuring. I am so grateful to have found Dr. Lai. I always look forward to my appointments with her. If you are looking for a psychiatrist in the Pasadena area, Dr Lai is a wonderful option! Highly recommended. (FYI: Her office accepts cash or check only). read more

I have been through my share of horrible doctors and I must say Dr. Biebuyck is simply AMAZING! He is very approachable and not at all judgmental. He does not try to rush you like most other psychiatrist. He will give you as much time as you need to talk to him, Dr. Biebuyck is very concerned about your well being and he is easy to talk to. He is a very brilliant and gifted doctor and I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs his help. read more

Transferred to Dr. Lai after seeing Dr Biebuyck for several years due to an insurance change. Both are great docs who really care about their patients. Getting appointments is easy and they are both always on time and courteous. I originally saw Dr. B when he was working in Glendora and that office was a complete disaster- rude staff, long waiting times. This office is a world of difference and id in a great location. Of note, as some of the reviews here mention, they have a strict missed appointment policy but are very up front about it and willing to work out a payment plan if asked(it happened to me). Dr B. would sometimes make exceptions but Dr. Lai doesn't. I've been to many other doctor's offices and they all have the same policy but this one is more consistent. Small price to pay for the great service here. read more

Just a quick update - still seeing Dr. Lai and it's still a perfect experience.

Looking for a new psychiatrist after my decades long doctor had passed away, I came to this practice as I had recently moved to Pasadena. It was a terrible mistake on my part. Old Town Psychiatric Service is unsophisticated in every way, from their shabby offices to the support staff continually requesting payment in cash. Unfortunately, Dr. Biebuyck is a mid-tier medical school credentialed practitioner who is out of his depth. There are, thankfully, many better doctors in the immediate area. I strongly suggest that one do not go to the Old Town Psychiatric Service. read more

I felt like I was having a major anxiety attack and called this office (I'd been seeing Dr. B for almost 2 years) on a holiday weekend. I was told he had no time to see me for nearly a month and that I was overdue on a co pay. I was having a horrible episode and this "Dr" broke his moral code of not even recommending I get to an ER or urgent care. Thankfully I have a psychologist friend who helped me that day. If it were easier to report this practice, I would. read more

My initial experience here was great, the receptionist was helpful and I was seeing Dr biebuyck and like most other reviews he was helpful and understood my needs. This changed today when I called to make an appointment. The receptionist- can't recall her name as she spoke very fast- was rude and kept rushing and interrupting me. I was having difficulty scheduling an appointment due to my admittidly difficult schedule but she wasn't very accommodating. She barely let me explain my frustrations instead kept interrupting and repeating things she had already stated. It just seemed like a world of a difference experience wise the previous few times I had come into the office or called. Not sure if she is new but I NEVER remember being treated this way in the past. read more

I strongly disagree with the bad reviews Dr. Biebuyck is a wonderful, caring, and very understanding Dr. especially when it relates to certain financial situations. They are a little outdated but to me what matters is that I am getting the best possible advice and care along with prescriptions. I have seen quite a few other's that don't compare to the level of proffessionalism. Janet is very sweet, polite and knows what she's doing. They accept checks also not just cash I always pay with checks I don't see the big deal if you are getting the right and best care/ help for your problems. I highly recommend Dr. Biebuyck read more

I've been seeing Dr. Biebuyck for about half a year, he is an excellent psychiatrist. Dr. Biebuyck explains everything thoroughly and comprehensibly, if I have any questions about anything he can almost always answer them for me. If ever need help finding any kind of mental health facilities whether it be for myself or someone else he always has a stellar recommendation. I can honestly say that I have made serious progress thanks to Dr. Biebuyck. Yet the shining star in that whole office has got to be Linda. Linda is the first person I see when I walk into the office and that woman is always smiling, even over the phone she is the sweetest person ever. She has helped guide me through the choppy waters of insurance. She always hands me a little reminder card and checks up because I can be pretty forgetful, she's super thoughtful and extremely diligent. One time she even stayed a little late so that I could pick up my diagnosis in order to gain enrollment in a mental health program my college offers. Without Linda I would be immensely lost in this whole process. So thank you Old Town Psychiatric Service, Thank you Dr. Biebuyck , and especially Thank You Linda. read more
