Absolutely incredible experience at this office. I do not have good or consistent experience with dental and we have had to move around every few years which makes it difficult to find a good dentist and stick with them. I had a horrendous experience with a vile dentist in Poulsbo that lasted nearly a year and ended with me sobbing and googling all sorts of phrases like "why doesn't my dentist listen to me?". I ended up finding an extremely informative and validating article written by a different dentist that I wish I could have gone to but was impossible because of geography- rather than give up I started looking around for "the best dentist in kitsap", this search led me to Dr. Houpt and I have them a call. The first refreshing change for me was how friendly and genuine the office staff seemed and how much information they had without constantly putting me on hold to ask someone. They offered me a free second opinion and I went in very scared! The office staff was super friendly when I met them in person and they have THE BEST covid-19 system in place that they adjust as covid adjusts. Dr. Houpt and all of his staff are consistently warm and welcoming and gave me so much confidence to continue seeing them despite them being out of network with my insurance- I was too afraid to go elsewhere after he listened to me and made me feel heard- he also went above and beyond in the consultation and offered me an adjustment to start and he had to do quite a lot of adjustments. He made so many discoveries of horrendous work done by the previous and evil dentist and I stuck with Dr. Houpt to get as close to being 100 as I could before having to relocate again. Dr. Houpt and his associates always checked on me and listened to every concern and did their best to address them. He also served as a mediator of sorts to help me resolve some of the issues I had with the previous dentist like a broken/ not fitting night guard etc. I've had many adjustments (so sorry, Dr!) as well as a referred out root canal that he crowned after and their office made me an Essex retainer to help cushion my teeth from grinding until I get a replacement night guard. I wish I didn't have to leave these people and I hope that despite my less than happy demeanor because of my chronic pain and general health, I genuinely appreciate and recommend Dr. Houpt to anyone needing a great dentist and staff. read more

I set a first appt. at Old Towne Dentist after reading reviews for Dr. Houpt, which were very good. After being seated in the dental chair I heard Dr. Houpt was part time retiring and I would be seeing Dr. Redgate whom I had no background check or reviews. I thought I Would see Dr. Houpt and thought he was the only dentist there. I continued with the first appointment with a laundry list of recommended work for my 71 year old teeth including replacing old fillings etc. In the world or unlimited funds and time maybe that would be a good plan. I was going to wait to see the cost associated with the proposed plan which I have yet to receive. The purpose of my visit was to get a quote for bonding for chipped front teeth, nothing else was bothering me. I was also interested in the cost of veneers. When I got home I checked online what I could and learned Dr. Redgate had excellent school history for Dentristy, apparently worked as a dentist in the military and the only history I could find of dentistry in general public was in CA in 2021, changing offices in 2023 and now at Old Towne Dental in WA.. I certainly cannot know if there is more history with general public - this is what I could find online. I would love to see real patient reviews both from California and Washington. While serving as a Dentist in the military is relevant, serving as a Dentist to the general public is also important. I think the skill set would have differences, but I am not a dentist. I am someone who has seen many dentists over 70 years, some bad, some good, some excellent. It is hard to know until the work is done and then it is what it is. Therefore - public reviews from prior patients are important to me. I wish it was easier to select a dentist. I wish Old Towne Dental and its associates great success and many good reviews. read more

Okay, I don't love going to the dentist. I guess it goes beyond just not liking it. It's like a countdown begins several days prior to my appointment and I become very apprehensive about going; even considering canceling it. I talk myself off the ledge and insist that it can't be that bad. I mean, does anybody really enjoy it? I doubt it. Unfortunately, if I want to have good dental health, go I must! I press on. Moving to a new state and trying to find adequate medical and dental care can be quite a challenge. I researched many dentists in the area and started making calls. As with most medical & dental practices, it would be months before I could be seen. I finally called Dr. Houpt's office and they were able to get me in @ 3 weeks after my call. On the day of my appointment, I had a little trouble finding the office. My navigation system took me to the large office in front of his. Dr. Houpt's office is a one-story, brown building. Once I found it, I was greeted by the receptionist. She was kind and professional and handed me the proverbial clipboard. I was taken back to the exam room by the hygienist. She was informative and friendly, reviewed my health/dental history, and gave me some background information about herself. Dr. Houpt came in and introduced himself and we discussed my health/dental history in more detail. Onto the exam, which was the most non-invasive, pain-free experience I have ever encountered! Dr. Houpt was personable, gentle, and thorough. I would highly recommend this office for anyone looking for dental care. read more

The receptionist on 6/20/24 is shamelessly rude and foolishly disrespectful. I was shocked at her attitude when I told her that I cannot have x-rays as part of protecting my health. She refused to allow me to finish a sentence. I was inquiring as a potential patient for the dentist, and I am a doctor myself. So, I don't accept recalcitrance of this type. I literally asked her twice to allow me to finish a sentence, and she ignored my polite request. Instead, she spoke over me THREE TIMES, she literally told me that what she is saying is more important. She persisted to tell me I need to bring recent x-rays for the dentist. What an ignorant woman! There is no need for x-rays when I request a cleaning only. She seemed highly offended that I do not want x-rays. How can I describe the nasty facial expressions on this woman? Foolishly bold, she flashed contempt over her face. Oh how I wish I could post a picture of her face. We lived in Bremerton when we found Dr Houpt. He is the best dentist I have seen in my 61 years. He is the very caring, totally professional. David and his staff will go above and beyond to help a patient with there needs. We have moved this past year 100 miles to the south. We still use David even with the two hour drive. To preface this: my mouth is very sensitive. We were recommended to Dr. Houpt's practice by a friend, and were not disappointed. We both appreciated how Dr. Houpt and his staff were friendly and straightforward; the reception worked with me to figure out the coverage that I had, and the initial appointment to take our xrays and look at each tooth was well explained and encouraging. Today, I had a fabulous cleaning from a gal named Amy, who was very attentive to how sensative I am to having work done on my teeth. I didn't even feel the numbing shot for getting my cavities filled, and the dental assistant Maryanne and Dr. David Houpt were so kind and thoughtful and attentive and caring towards me. Would highly highly absolutely 110% recommend this practice if you are looking for a new dentist. Bonus to all this: I hadn't been to the dentist in 17 years, and never once was there any criticism or chastising for that. Dr. Houpt is a really good dentist, I read on his bio that he was in the military and I think that it's given him the ability to quickly and thoroughly do an exam. He is meticulous in hiring his staff. Was vacationing with friends in the area and they recommended Dr. Houpt for my issue. The staff was friendly and helpful. Dr. Houpt is VERY skilled with a needle. He was sensitive to my pain tolerance, and resolved an issue with my new caps very quickly. Ended up getting a LOT more done than I had originally planned, but I am happy with the final outcome.
