Hubby and I arrived to Gargrave at lunch time via canal boat. After a quick walk through the village, we settled on the Old Swan Inn and were glad we did. We didn't want a heavy meal, so we each had a sandwich - bacon, brie, and mango chutney on Ciabatta bread. What a delicious combination! I will definitely try to make it at home. We also split a bowl of potato leek soup, which was very nice.
The pub is pretty large and also has a back garden with picnic tables. We stayed inside next to the bar to chat with the proprietor and soak up the traditional decor. There is a large variety of beers and ciders on tap,as well as an impressive range of whiskeys and other spirits behind the bar.
The publican could not have been nicer - a tall Glaswegian who offered us a sample of different local ales on the house, and even offered us eventual help in case we have trouble on the canal! read more
