I have passed his pub all my life and never been in, but having visited my father in Keighley this evening, and returning to Chevin Lodge Hotel at Otley, I called in for a quick meal.
From entrance left hand side is a dining room , and right hand side a bar. Dining room was already quite busy at 7.15, always a good sign and I ordered a pint of Tetleys (No local Taylors beers), and requested menu.
I went for a fish platter for starter, and sea bass for main (I often order Sea bass or a lamb dish in order to compare how different establishments cook it).
The Fish platter (which came surprisingly quickly) consisted of some prawns, smoked salmon, and pieces of peppered mackerel, dressed in a creme fraiche enhanced with dill. The whole on an excellent and varied salad. Very good indeed, though rather too much of it , it could almost have been a main.
Also arriving quickly (almost too quickly), the main consisted of two good fillets of sea bass on a chorizo mash with a tomato fondu sauce. The fish was cooked to perfection, but unfortunately there was far too much of the tomato sauce, which tasted as if it was from a ketchup jar and warmed up ! It was spread all over the meal. Far better for it to have been on the side or in a separate pot. But this was the only real criticism of the meal.
Service came with a smile from too pleasant ladies, who were happy to chat a little even though they were quite busy.
Wines were well priced, but limited in number, all were between £11.95 and £18.95 a bottle. By the glass only £4.20 for a large 250 ml, read more
