We ate at the Stansfield Arms last week, and we have no complaints whatsoever about the food, the service, or the prices. In fact the staff were extremely friendly, so no complaints there. But we were very disappointed that we had a table booked from 4:00pm to 6:00pm and after the main course the waitress asked if we would like a sweet to which we answered yes, and then a couple of minutes later we were told that we had to change tables which I do think was very bad mannered. We had 40 minutes or so left on our booking, and had noticed a table near us that were there before we got there and still there, only drinking hot drinks so we couldn't understand at all why we were moved. This really made us feel that we weren't important clients at all. If the pub had overbooked, that wasn't our problem. We have been to this restaurant many times, but this time went away feeling very disappointed. read more

Dirty, smelly and disappointingly overpriced. When I lived in Leeds I used to come here all the time for good food. However, it's been 5 years and the pub needs a really good clean and freshen up. We came for Sunday lunch and we're placed on a 2 person table by the main stairs. The carpet was literally disgusting - we could smell the beer soaked carpet the whole time we had dinner. This smell also attracted a ton of flies. We swatted about 5 during dinner with others flying around us. I know it's summer and it's hard to control flies, but a bug zapper in the main bar area would easily solve this. The muscles I ordered were wonderful, but the Sunday roast was really, really bland. No seasoning on anything and the roast potatoes felt like they had been reheated from yesterday. It was overall a disappointing experience. read more

Arrived for a quick drink and dinner at 7.05 today to find the car park almost full, almost didnt go in as I thought service may be slow. Anyway went in, it was extremely busy but they found me a table, and poured me a pint of 'Black Sheep'. Clearly its a very popular place. Ordered an old favourite of mine a Braised Lamb Shank (£13.95)on a root veg mash, and some red cabbage as a side dish. I was astonished how quickly it arrived though I know these are vacuum packed and usually only need microwaving. The shank itself was fine, but the gravy, mash and red cabbage were EXTREMELY salty and the gravy full of monosodium glutamate. Since condiments are always provided , why do so many chefs these days murder their creations with salt and other seasonings ?? I realised afterwards that this pub is part of Greenvale Taverns Group, like the Chevin Inn at Otley, and you can see from my review of this place last year , that I also complained about saltiness of one dish there. This is a great pub. Set in an idylic old building that dates back to 1722! It sits in the dip in the valley in Apperley Bridge and is only a short walk from the Leeds Liverpool Canal. The current owners have turned it in to a gastro pub with talented chefs who use local ingredients to create traditional british and international cuisine, there really is something for everyone. The atmosphere is usually pretty lively, they often put on theme food/drink nights, e.g beujolais night. I've been going to this pub on and off for 15 years and can thoroughly recommend it and it's both an ideal place to go and drink outside on a summers day or to sit inside near one of the old open fires on a winter evening, indeed at any time of year. read more

Fantastic for a sunday lunch with the family. Taking advantage of the £13.95 for 2 courses lunch menu you can't go wrong. I went for a fish cake for starter which was very nice, not to fishy like some places. It didn't take long to arrive at the table either. Main I chose the Roast Beef dinner, this is a gamble as I like my beef to be nearer the rare and still pink. As my father is the same we asked the waitress if this was the case and she said she will look into it after confirming this is fine we both ordered and it was amazing. Awesome portion size, mashed and roast potato, Yorkshire pudding and the do no skimp on the gravy, and as most people know NORTHERN BOYS LOVE GRAVY!! After easily polishing off the roast dinner I then had a few bites of the ham and turkey pie my wife got, I would say err on the side of caution for this as it is exceptionally rich. To top of the dinner the Stansfield has a great selection of local real ales of which I went for the fantastic Saltaire Blond. Overall very good and will definitely be going again. read more

It's a very long time since me and my late wife came into this establishment and I'm glad to read reviews that still recommend this fine place. When we ate here, it was such a romantic evening. Wowzers I was really impressed with this pub, I ordered a prawn green Thai curry which was perfect - I'm used to getting small rubbish prawns but these bad boys were big juicy butterfly prawns! The pub itself is really pretty with nice decor and friendly staff... Try it! read more

Great early bird (5-7 weekdays, 4-6 Sat, 6-8 Sun) - £11.95 for 2 courses. Outside of this getting onto pricey pub but very good food so probably worth it. This is a lovely old fashioned pub in a very old building which still has a lot of its original fittings. The interior is lovely and very cosy with more private areas for you is you want to be alone and have a private meal. Given it could do with a bit more lighting in places but that adds to the cosy feel. The food is lovely and they make a gorgeous quiche which is so yummy i could eat it now writing this. The menu is vast full of old favourites like steak and chips and a full roast and chicken and chips with gravy which is gorgeous. The chef is very talented as his food is definitely not your normal pub food - its delicious. The place gets very busy with regulars and the atmosphere is very friendly. My partner and I went here a few weeks ago for a late Sunday lunch. It was relatively busy as usual though we were found a table for two pretty quickly. I had soup for starters and we both had lamb for main which was nice. not feeling like too much to eat we shared a crumble for pud. Washed it all down with a nice pint. All in all a nice meal with good service. A touch more pricey than some places depending on what you're wanting, they do have some meal deals. Would recommend it to anyone. Beautiful pub at Apperley Bridge. Good range of dishes available and usually very busy. Only downside is that in some parts of the restaurant, it is quite dark, to the extent that you can't read the menu!! Lovely food though read more

Very nice 'gasto pub' The food is very nice, good quiality with a wide selection. They always have specials on which differ from month to month. The building itself is very nice, a nice traditional pub. If you go here on a sunny day you'll be lucky to get a seat as it's very popular. Outside heaters for later in the evening too. Had a good meal although the cheese board was disappointing , considering £6.25 for 6 biscuits , a thin slice of Stilton , cheddar and Brie !!! Distinctly underwhelming. Service appeared intermittent unless you're a regular. I had a quick lunch of the hot beef sandwich which was completely overpowered by the overly sweet onion marmalade, I couldn't eat the lukewarm greasy chips and the coleslaw was just tasteless. I'll go to the greasy spoon cafe up the road next time - great food, service and value, all things this place could learn about. read more
