Oh I love this pub! It has such a fantastic attmosphere, great location and then there is the most spectacular waterfall... so when I was treated to a romantic weekend away and we stayed in the Green Gragon, I was over-joyed, however...
the owners are reliant on the building to bring trade in, service is not on their agenda at all. We ate in the pub on the first night and witnessed an absolute farce with the staff trying desperately to work out who had ordered which meal in a very busy pub. You eventually got the meal that you ordered, but only once it had done a lap of all the other customers first. The waiter had a look of totally confusion on his face. This obviously wasnt an isolated incident as we witnessed the same fiasco the following evening (thankfully we had eaten somewhere else that night and had only popped in for a drink before bed.)
Breakfast was another farce, with missing cutlery, "does anyone have a spoon?" you had to find your own glass and be patient, someone will take your order eventually...
We spent our first day walking and taking in the fantastic scenery. After a day of refreshing country air tour intention was to go back to the room for a shower and change and then to hit the pubs in Hawes. The room hadnt been touched since we left that morning - so there were no clean towels and the usual expectations of made beds and additional toiletries and toilet paper were non existent.
Such a shame. As I said earlier, I love this pub, but the owners need to take a good look at the service they are (not) providing. I wont be staying there again. read more
