This shop is so up my alley. Someone once referred to me as an old soul and I still think it's the best compliment I have ever received. Clearly the folks running this place are old souls. Not only can you tell from what's on the shelves and hanging on the racks, but in the first 2 minutes of conversation with them. They genuinely believe in what they're doing - providing things you only have to buy once to get you outside and enjoying it. No game boys here! What a great feeling the minute you walk in - like going on vacation. My blood pressure goes down the minute I cross the threshold. The high-quality responsibly-made merchandise is reasonably priced and the owners back their stuff up. Recently I bought a yeti cooler for my husband and Patagonia for my daughter. For me - it's the smart wool socks I love most. Every time I go in I find something we can't live without. My dad is the hardest person to get a gift for. No joke 90% of anything he receives gets sent back. However, give him a gift certificate to Old Souls and he can't wait to get there to spend it. Fabulous place and people! read more

Every time I am in Cold Spring I at least window shop at this amazing store. The staff is always delightful and helpful. Their inventory is high quality; everything from baby Patagonia jackets, women's and men's clothes, to watches, sunglasses, yeti outdoor coolers, hiking shoes, camping blankets, wilderness/ hiking trail books, to camping essentials and backpacks. This store has it all. We are moving back to Oklahoma so yesterday my sweet husband treated me to a Patagonia jumpsuit and hat. I'm obsessed! Going to miss this store and the cute little village it resides in. If you need some unique finds I highly recommend you check this place out. read more

this shop has everything you would need to explore the hudson valley and more. the workers are super friendly and helpful the store is nice and inviting. it was a breeze to browse through everything and find what we were looking for. honestly we bought too much while we were here but happy with everything. felt great handing over my credit card to a small business that treats their first time customers so well. will definitely be going back when we are in the area. read more

I've been back a few times since my first visit and have been impressed with the staff, service, and selection of goods. They keep a steady stream of the latest Filson goods and even put up some decent sales at season turnover! Three stars for now - based on the still-odd stretch to be a fly fishing shop. They have a nice glass case filled with reels, nippers, tools, etc... And the same 6-7 Scott fly rods collecting dust on a single rack mixed in with the sale section of clothes. As a retailer, I recommend they either clear this space and allow for more clothes/bags. As a fisherman, I could have restocked my supply of tippet or bought a tool... But I would have had to go find an employee to go behind this separate counter. For above average prices it's not worth the effort! Overall, a good place to go shopping for fine outdoor or sporting wear. A good selection of accessories as well. read more

My husband and I were recently in Cold Spring and loved this place. We were just looking around doing some window shopping and spot a beautiful backpack. We did not buy it, but came back twice to look at it because that is the type of shoppers that we are. In our third visit, we got the backpack. While we were there, we liked another bag and the next day we bought it too. This is a great shop. The owners know their product and it is very well curated. Many stores offer similar stuff but the actual brands they carry are overpriced junk. The brands Old Souls carry may be expensive but it is quality. They have a nice selection of Filson and Pendleton. Two old american companies that still manufacture in the U.S. They stock Emerson knives and Danner boots, two more U.S made brands. I am alwasy impressed by their selection. They even carry a top rated maple syrup maybe its Crown. Great store and nice to see the owners put the effort into their stock unlike many stores that seem to order from a generic catalog of faux Americana products. read more

Very nice gear shop for hiking and such. Clothes, backpacks, hiking tools, and maps. It's a small shop--no giant REI--but we found what we needed. They have the usual brands, SmartWool socks, Patagonia etc. The staff is also extremely courteous and helpful. read more

Everything is of top quality. No cheap junk. The Pendleton blankets are especially nice. Stopped in to Old Souls to check out their selection of Red Wing Boots, and browse around at all of the items id love to buy. After debating for a few years about dropping a significant amount of money on a nice pair of Red Wing Boots, we stopped in to try on a few pairs. The staff quickly gave me the run down of all of the different boots, got me a fresh pair of boot socks for fitting purposes, and professionally fit me for my new Red Wing Iron Ranger boots! After helping me through a few different sizes, they ordered up my boots, and kept me posted with phone calls as they got info on their shipping status. When the boots came in, the manager/owner left me a voicemail, and I quickly shot over to the shop, and it turned out they were closed. This is where they went above and beyond. Apparently this was the first day of their fall hours, and although they were closed, the owner was inside, and opened up the shop just so I could come in, try out my boots, and finish our transaction. It would have been incredibly easy for her to just have said "I'm sorry, we are not open" but she opened the door and welcomed us inside with a great positive attitude, where we were not made to feel like we were intruding or being a pain in any way... I left an exceptionally happy customer (they even through in Red Wing boot oil for free to keep my boots in good shape!), and am glad I ordered my boots locally from a great shop who cares about their customers... I whole hardheartedly disagree with some of the other negative reviews of this shop, as their service was completely unpretentious, and I can honestly say they gave me more information about my new boots, than information I got when I purchased my car! read more
