I've been coming here for years as my boyfriend is an avid skier and he recently convinced me to…read moreget back on the mountain and learn to ski (I've always snowboard). Learning to ski in my 30s felt a bit intimidating, but the team at Mount Everest in Westwood made the process so much easier and more enjoyable! The staff are incredibly friendly, honest, and helpful, especially Andrew, who went above and beyond to assist me with rentals and gear suited for my skill level. He took the time to explain everything, making me feel confident and comfortable as a beginner. He even would crack a joke from time to time to help me to not over think and stress so much. On top of that, their selection of gear and brands is fantastic, definitely some of the best I've seen in the Bergen county area. They also run great sales, so you can get high-quality equipment and name brands at a great price. I can't recommend Mount Everest enough for anyone, whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting like me. I'll definitely be coming back! The only downside to their Westwood location is finding parking as it is all street parking and fills up rather fast.

I'm writing this review bc they really hit the nail on the coffin this time. I came there to mount new bindings on my skis and got hit with a service charge almost as much as the bindings. They told me to come back in about 10 days because they are backed up. I show up and they give me my skis with the same bindings I had before. Like "here is ur skis you paid $350 for nothing". Imagine I was new to skiing and didn't know any better? They then made me wait another hour until they mount them. Smh can't believe this happened. You pay a lot for terrible service at this place.

"I said to myself when we're old we'll go dancing in the…read moredark walking through the park and reminiscing..." Or shall I say "skiing in the park..." cause this is where my dad brought us every Fall to rent our seasonal Skiing equipment! It was the best outing of the year! We would get fitted for boots, ski's & poles. *Hickory & Tweed was founded by Jimmy and Roberta Ross in 1961. The name represents ~ Hickory (type of wood for skis) & Tweed wool (being the best insulation for the cold back then). In 1985, Skip Beitzel, who worked there while in high school, bought it and has kept the name and the concepts. I was so happy to see it was still a local icon and not much had changed. My High School friend and I stopped in to browse amongst the gear and chatted with one of the sales people. The store had all top of the line sports brands and upstairs on the second floor they still do the ski equipment fittings! It totally made my day! They also have a bike shop located on the same lot in a separate building. The shop looks like a colonial home. The staff is ready to help you with all of your needs. *Some Parking available in the back & streets

Renting and returning gear is easy and pain free. We really enjoy going there, and tapping the trail sign for snow, and all the picks of Tuckerman's and famous Olympians like Billy Kidd. This is a real old school ski shop with the old school take care of your ski spirit. Cannot recommend them highly enough.

I am a strong supporter of local businesses, but felt compelled to write a review because of an…read moreextremely poor customer experience. I brought in skis to have them tuned for the season. I haven't skied in four years because of a previous ski injury. I felt ready to get back onto the slopes - not an easy decision. I've been skiing since I was six, so my skis were previously tuned for competition and needed to be readjusted so I can take it much easier. My bindings looked a bit old and I took them in to be readjusted to bring me back down to intermediate level. I brought in the skis and they accommodated a request to have them done by the end of the week. Awesome. Great customer service from some new kids working the counter. I get a call shortly after saying the bindings were no longer indemnified by the manufacturer and that I needed new bindings. They offered to sell me 2022 inventory at 35% off. I asked what make and model and immediately browsed for the same bindings online. The price of the bindings at reputable stores, including their standard installation cost for bindings brought to them, was significantly lower than they were offering, even with the discounts - about 50 percent less. They are a business, I get it. I asked if they would be willing to lower the cost given it's old inventory. I hear an older man in the background saying, as I'm asking these questions, "Tell him to come get his f-ing skis and take them away." I did exactly that. I had been going to them for years, for myself, my kids, and had referred my friends many times over. Now they have not just lost this customer that was getting back into skiing, but my friends and referrals, and possibly some of you reading this review. Small businesses should treat customers with the same respect we give them. I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

I went in with my 8-year-old daughter after learning they had skis in her size still available. The regular salesman wasn't there, and I was helped by the technician. After sizing my daughter, I asked about purchasing snowboard equipment for myself. When i decided against a purchase, I asked about whether any of the sales items could be put in the rental inventory, and the technician, a man-child in his 30s, took great offense. He basically told me that I should shop elsewhere. They didn't have a rental snowboard for me anyway, so I left and looked around. I couldn't find anywhere else with skis my daughter's size, so I called Sports Barn Ski & Sport back to confirm that they still had the ones sized for her. The technician told me to get lost. Undaunted, I returned to the store. The technician again told me that they couldn't rent to me. Then I found a female manager and explained the situation. I practically had to grovel to these people to rent skis for my daughter because I had no other options. Finally she agreed to rent to me. It's really crazy how offended the man-child became simply because I asked whether sales equipment could be converted to rental.
