Very nondescript outside facade - no sign telling you what it is other than a small "BSC" (for Bovine Sex Club) painted near the door. Hard to miss though as the exterior is made up a punk rock style sculpture of rusted bikes & other assorted ephemera. The interior is similar, visually. Great sound system & chill vibes pervade throughout. Weirdly the stage is right in the entrance of the club, on your left, with a long bar along the right side, heading back. Great, crowd, great location in cool area with lots of restaurants & plenty of parking - both on the street up to 2 hours & extended parking for a flat-rate of CA$20 (~$14 USD) from 6:00pm until the next morning, just 2 blacks away.

Are the beer cans running out? It's possible. But, it's a dive in the way of the old dives. And the acoustics for bands are... not great. But they are a sign of what once was. Without attempting to try to present a front of a time long gone, The Bovine simply exists today as it once did in that time long ago, before Smokes stickers, before iPhones, back when people would just go to a bar to talk with those they didn't know the morning prior. Bring cash though, unless you're looking to make some big orders, because credit card is a minimum fifty-dollar spend.

I got the Power bowl and my partner got the dill pickle poutine. Generally good portion size and what felt like overall good value for money. The cocktails were very reasonably priced. It's also a cute, cozy atmosphere, and really nice for a hotel attached restaurant. Particularly when it seems to be non chain and many steps above the usual Denny's restaurant. Cons: A few on this visit. Floors felt really sticky in parts. It's a wood floor and I'm not sure if perhaps they used the wrong cleaner for the purpose, as I've had a similar thing happen to my apartment floor. Server said they would clean up the table. Bartender came up after 5 minutes waiting in the seats by the entrance. Asked if we had a seat, told him we were told to wait, then he immediately escorted us to a table. There was a little confusion between the server and bartender as they tried to tend to us sort of twice in the beginning. The place was about 80-90% full, and it looked like it was they were the only two working the front of house at the time, so I could understand if there was a bit of a problem. Looked like they were hurrying. Drinks arrived in a reasonable time though. Some miscommunication when bringing the food - the bartender was bringing it over and it was loud. He started auctioning off the food, so couldn't hear him, so we said, "what?" He replied, "oh, wrong table" and then sort of stormed off. Looked like they tried to sort out the confusion, and after about 5 minutes the server came to us to clairfy and explained what happened. Said the power bowl dish went to someone else but the person that got it, their order was being made so it'd be a small delay. She offered the 15% discount on food that diamond tier RSVP members at the Sandman hotel get. She was very apologetic about the incident. The bartender came at the end of the meal to provide the bill. They gave me the POS and then just left the table. MIght have been a one-off experience, the last review was six months ago. I would say the server was mostly good at remaining her composure. She seemed slightly flustered at the very beginning but things were busy. The bartender seemed to have gone a bit rogue and was a bit aloof to us. A single page menu had about 3 items off the menu, marked with white out. Could use a bit of an update. I'd probably check how busy it is before possibly ordering there again, opting for a delivery option instead.

Our adventure started before we even sat down. A gentleman came in to pick up his takeout order, and the lady behind the counter appeared to be sitting on his food bag. He wasn't too happy about it, and she kept insisting she wasn't sitting on it, just very, very close to it. At that point I thought, "Well... this evening is going to be interesting." Then, as soon as you walk in, the first thing that greets you isn't the music or the beautiful decor... it's the smell from the bathrooms. We looked at each other, laughed, and decided not to test our luck by going in there. The lounge was almost empty when we arrived around 11:00 p.m. on a weekday. My sister has a fractured back, so we politely asked if we could sit at one of the many larger tables. The waitress kept saying those tables were for big groups. We looked around at all the empty tables and thought maybe the big groups were just running fashionably late. She eventually let us sit there, saying we'd have to move if a large group arrived. I told her that was completely fine. Spoiler alert... we never had to move. Now, the hookah. I ordered my usual double apple, and my niece ordered the same flavor she orders everywhere we go. Somehow, both arrived tasting like... perfume. The gentleman who said he was the manager was wonderful. He replaced both hookahs right away, but unfortunately the new ones tasted exactly the same. My niece finally gave up and returned hers. When he asked about mine, I told him it still tasted like I was smoking perfume instead of shisha. He actually tried it himself, agreed something wasn't right, and kindly removed both hookahs and one of the drinks from our bill. That level of customer service was genuinely appreciated. I only tried the drinks and cheesecake, and I have to give them credit where it's due the presentation of the drinks was beautiful. They arrived on a tray with dry ice creating a rolling smoke effect and a little bonsai-style tree. It looked elegant, unique, and definitely got everyone's attention. My traditional virgin mojito was actually delicious. My sister's virgin strawberry margarita, however, seemed to be having a little identity crisis. We kept looking for the strawberry, but it never introduced itself. As for the cheesecake... it was okay. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing that made me say, "Wow, I need to come back for another slice." This place honestly has so much potential. The lounge is beautiful, and you can tell someone put a lot of effort into creating the space. I think with better quality maasal and someone who really knows hookah, this place could become a favorite. As a Middle Eastern customer, I know how serious people are about shisha, and with a few improvements, I think they'd have people coming back for both the atmosphere and the experience. The funny part? After we got home, I started reading the reviews online and was genuinely surprised by how many people had experiences similar to ours. Apparently, we weren't the only ones! And finally... thank you, ChatGPT, for recommending this place. I guess even AI has an off day once in a while. Would I come back? Maybe. I'm a big believer in second chances... just not third chances for perfume-flavored hookah. The lounge itself is gorgeous, and the manager genuinely did everything he could to make things right, which I really appreciated. I truly hope they make a few improvements because this place has all the ingredients to become an amazing spot. I'd honestly love to update this review one day and give them five stars.

Happened to be in the area so decided to give this place a try. The moment I walked in, I instantly…read morerealized that this place is better as a dine in experience. My thoughts? Is this one of those other places that only looks good but has crappy food? We're about to find out. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with the quality and taste of the food. I ordered 2 items for takeout and while it might have been a better/different experience if it was dine-in, I think the taste would've still been the same. The interiors was decorated nicely, giving a luxury chill vibe. Parking is in the lot and you need to go down a set of stairs to get to the restaurant entrance, which in my opinion is not very accessible friendly. Anyway, now for the food. Portion? Generous. Taste? Horrible. I ordered 2 items: their chow mein and momos medley. The overall pricing on the menu is ridiculous, with appetizers starting at $18 and mains going up to $80. Their platter for 4 is $160. Right off the bat I thought this place was ridiculously overpriced but alas I wanted to try it to see if it's worth it or if the qualify of the food is there, and that it's not just a place for show. I was extremely disappointed, but more so, a little disgusted. I could not finish my meal without forcing myself to do so. The chow mein tasted as if they had dumped a jar of sauce to cover up the tasteless dish. The flavour came from the overly saucy flavour that could be tasted in every single bite. I like sauce with my food, just not when it's drowning in it. The other thing I noticed is that it had a kick to it after eating so in the moment as you would eat, it wasn't spicy but the moment I finished, I felt the spice kick in. It left a noticeable spicy aftertaste. Now for the momos, the complete opposite of the noodles. The momos were filled generously but it seemed that there was no spices or flavors added to it at all. It didn't taste good. It did come with some chili oil and hot sauce on the side, but again that didn't help to up the flavor and make it tasty. Would I come back even if the interiors were nice? Probably not. The most important is the food and in this case, it was just a disappointment and a waste of money.

We were intrigued by it's fusion tapas style, even though we had originally thought that it was a Spanish tapas place. I was with a party of six, and we were served by an extremely friendly server that night. We ordered some tacos, flatbreads and a mango papaya salad. Each dish was quite well prepared, and since it was a mix of a lot of different cultures' foods, I was satisfied with the level of authenticity. However, because they were trying to do a lot of different styles, I feel like the quality was not as good as if they did something more focused. Also, I think it would be worth it to consider some more substantial dishes like a fried rice, etc. I know it's a tapas focused place, but I found that for a party of 6, I still didn't feel too satisfied after trying all the dishes we got. I hope that they can continue to upgrade their menu, because I think it's a really nice place already, but improvements can be made. I also think that since it's mostly serve in a back alley patio right now, there were a lot of wasps and it wasn't the cleanest back alley, so that is my other reason for giving this place 3 stars. I'm sure that when they get back to serving in their unit, the quality of the experience will go up!
