Confused I informed her there isn't a registry. She informed me I wasn't welcome in there and needed to leave. I will be calling corporate and speaking to my lawyer on Monday. She violated my rights protected by the American with disability act. Horrible. Absolutely horrible. So, do not go there with a service dog, you will be rudely kicked out.

There's plenty of parking outside of the building. The interior is very clean and very large. Everything was surprisingly clean and mostly in its place. We didn't have issues locating shoes or shoe sizes, and there was a nice dispersion of shoe sizes for every style we checked out. (Like, not a ton of 10's with no 8's or anything like that). The bench areas were clean, and there were no half-tried-on shoes strewn about the place. The foot socks were well-stocked and ready to use. Again, very well-organized and clean. Famous Footwear regularly offers sales which is good because their prices, while under MSRP, are still higher than some places. Make sure to check their website to print out a coupon (or access on your cell phone) while there. They also have their Famous Footwear Rewards program which gives you gift certificates after you hit certain spending thresholds. At this particularly time, they were having a BOGO50% off Clearance event which could be stacked with any of your Famous Footwear Rewards Certificates and a 15% off your total purchase available on their website. It brought a bill which was $155 for three pairs of shoes down to $105. They have a decent availability and selection of shoes. There were clearance shoes in children's, men's, and women's. There was a LOT more selection in women's shoes (over 6 fixtures worth) than in men's (2 fixtures). Things were well-organized by size, though, and actually in their proper place. Clearance shoes don't come with the shoebox lid, though, which is surprisingly annoying. You wouldn't think so, but it means all the shoes fell out of their boxes once placed in the shopping bag. There was a single employee working here which seemed perfectly suitable. We were in there about an hour, and we saw about 6 customers come and go. There was never a line. The employee was very friendly and greeted us when we came in. She came and checked in about every 20 minutes or so, but she was never hovering or trying to be overly helpful. She seemed to make a point of cleaning/tidying things far away from us to give us privacy to choose our shoes. She was very friendly during check-out as well. She even caught that their system didn't price one of our shoes correctly and fixed it herself without being asked. Great customer service here. I did use the restroom while I was here, and they have a single-bathroom style for both sexes. The bathrooms are probably the least "in repair" thing in the building. It's obvious they've put some time into the storefront and the retail area, but the bathrooms look outdated. However, they're still really clean and definitely usable. Final thoughts: This is a nice Famous Footwear with friendly service. They have a decent selection, and it's very clean and easy to navigate. It can be a bit expensive to just come here and impulse buy a pair of shoes, but if you're aware of their deals and do a slight amount of checking-up before you come shop, you can get away with brand-name shoes at really good prices. Definitely would recommend.

I went to their website and this shop popped up as a dealer location. I was intrigued since I hadn't heard of it before. I have to admit that when I first walked in, I thought I was in the wrong place. The front of the store isn't really outdoor gear. I lot of it is women's casual clothing. Then I started noticing things in the back. They have a pretty extensive collection of Darn Tough wool socks. Many of the styles were limited edition ones that I've never seen anywhere else. They had some other outdoorsy clothes in the back. I was impressed with the amount of Marmot items they carry. There were some outdoor gear items in a small section in the very back, but it doesn't seem to be a big part of their business. One of the items that stood out to me was the Sea to Summit Aeros inflatable travel pillow. I wish II'd had one of those for my flights to and from Hawaii earlier this year. The cost is similar to a regular travel pillow, but it's inflatable so it doesn't take up much space when you aren't using it. I asked about the Arcteryx gear. They said Arcteryx doesn't work with small shops like them anymore. It isn't their fault that they're still listed as a dealer, but I was disappointed about it. However, I expect I'll head back in a month or so when they get their winter stock in. I suspect they'll have some good winter jackets and gloves, and I really want to take a closer look at all the Darn Tough styles they had. Wool socks are so good for keeping your feet warm in the winter. And I just might pick up an Aeros pillow while I'm there, too.

And on the strength of Lindsay R.'s review, I consulted Google Maps and made my way to Beaverdale and to Back Country Outfitters. Beaverdale is a cute little area and I'm glad I made a trip to a neighbourhood I would have not normally sought out. Back Country Outfitters is kind of a mini REI, with knowledgeable staff, an interesting meandering layout, and a nice selection of outdoors gear, women's' clothing, travel bags and gifts. There's plenty of free parking and definitely worth the trip.
