We decided to have dinner at the Moorings for a change. It was quiet, so quiet. And as it turns…read moreout, there's a reason for that. My chilli nachos had no chilli, but were very greasy, salty and they'd managed to melt the outside edge of the grated cheese and mould the rest into a lump of cheddar. Very unpleasant. My wife's chicken wings were no better, but her steak frite was nice apparently. However my burger was raw, and needed to be replaced with one which was medium at best. Medium steaks are fine, but not processed meat. The Moorings pricing isn't exactly competitive either. So they can't afford to be messing it up with what's put in the plate. It's not expensive, but at these prices you expect better. They kindly subtracted the starters from the bill, but of course by then it's too late. Yes, there's a reason it's quiet.

I am giving the Moorings 4 stars mainly because of how beautiful it is outside. When I drive past I…read morealways look and think, man that would be a nice house. Just to set the record straight, it is not a house, it is quite mansion like, with ivy growing all over the wall, in a nice way. At night the uplighters go on too and it is just gorgeous. I have been here for dinner and it has nice ambiance, quite like a guest hotel in somewhere rural, so yes tartan can be found in various areas. I would go again, but personally I prefer the big cities rather than the cosy country feel. Meals are averagely priced although verging on expensive side, depending what you get exactly.

In walking distance from Motherwell Train Station and near some hotspots like the Motherwell…read moreHeritage Centre, Library and The Zone, this is a popular 3-star hotel with single rooms from £50.00 including a full Scottish breakfast. I have never stayed myself but go regularly for a lunch or sometimes as a treat at dinner time, with a great grill menu. It's always busy, but not loud and the service is really good. You can also use this place for conference facilities that rival that of the nearby Heritage Centre. Recommended for a nice quiet wholesome lunch.

It isn't very grand, or very modern. It's just kind of...there. I have been to the Bentley many, many times for weddings, anniversaries, lunches and dinners over the years. I went recently with a group of old school friends. I have no idea why the person booked here, although the selection is limited in Motherwell I suppose, but I thought it was a strange choice for three 21 year old girls! The dining room looks pretty much like someone's dining room in their home, which put me off a bit but I suppose they are going for a homely feel with the whole hotel. The menu was good value, three courses for just under £15, which was not bad at all for a hotel. I had the melon with orange and grapefruit for a starter which was small and presented well, and very tasty. I moved onto chicken and bacon in a chasseur sauce, which was served with potatoes and veg, nice and hearty, with a real home cooked taste. It is not haut cuisine and it isn't modern; all of the dishes served are traditional 'Sunday dinner' type dishes, which is lovely if you like that kind of thing, and perfect for a family meal where everyone likes different things. Dessert was Apple pie with ice cream which was served warm. It was, again, very hearty and stodgy and reminded me of the Apple Pie my Gran used to make on Sundays, which was lovely. All of the food was good, tasty and filling. Although I tend to prefer lighter meals like pastas and fish, this was a nice change and somewhere I would definitely visit again.

Most aspects of this recent stay were 4-star, but the lack of air conditioning is kind of baffling…read more When I moved to Oregon, I faced the same issue. The locals claimed that it normally wasn't needed for the climate. But I thing the management here needs to consider offering more than just a small fan. Each room has a heater, so I would recommend this hotel in cooler weather without hesitation. I had a clean, comfortable and QUIET room considering the wedding. Scottish breakfast was very good. I tried Haggis for the first time. If you ever watched the movie Highlander, Christopher Lambert describes Haggis as "meat and barley boiled in a sheep's stomach". MMMM doesn't that sound good? (NOT) Well, I found it to be a bit like corned beef hash, but much less salty. Not my _favorite_ breakfast food, but I am glad I tried it. They also offer roasted tomatoes, sausages, scrambled eggs, custom omelets, yogurt and fruit. I only ate breakfast here, so cannot rate the lunch or dinner menu.

The food served is of a high quality with a special mention for the mixed grill - the amount of food is so huge, rumour is no one has ever left an empty plate, I can confirm that! On a personal note, this hotel (then owned by a previous hotel chain) was the place I first met my wife, so it is 'special to us both'.

I went here with my family for Christmas dinner. £65 per head for one of the worst meals I've ever…read moreeaten. The starter was fine, but very small portions. The main was a pathetic impression of a school lunch, with about half the love and attention given. Dry beef and completely undercooked veg, left a lot to be desired. Desert was not terrible, though I imagine the chef had as little to do with these as possible, as they were most likely frozen. The wait staff were an even split, with some being friendly, but the majority being disinterested or even downright rude. I can understand the misery of working Christmas day, but you don't have to ruin it for everyone else. I wouldn't waste my money here again.

Sadly, after having visited three times in the last 2 weeks, I would have to say that the standards are clearly slipping in this once fine establishment. Now you can just turn up on spec and you are guaranteed a table, the dining room is nearly always more than 50% empty, even on Mothers day when we went on Sunday night. The biggest disappointment of the Mothers day visit, was that they had replaced the normal À la carte menu with a fixed menu of the day which comprised of little more than pub grub, but with À la carte prices. We were not informed at the time of booking that the regular À la carte menu would not be available on Mothers day, what a disappointment it was for a table of 8, there wasn't even anything on the fixed menu for the children to eat. It was so bad, we got up and left. On the previous 2 occasions, orders were just simply wrong, staff were then rude and unhelpful in trying to correct matters, some of the food was cold, honestly you would expect a better standard of service at a burger joint, definitely not what you expect from an À la carte hotel restaurant. The hotel side of the business still seems popular enough, no doubt in part because of it's prime location in the town, but if your looking for a nice À la carte meal and don't want to be disappointed, then I would suggest you look else where and avoid this once great place, shame really.

My boyfriend and I visit this hotel each month staying for a period of between 2 and 4 nights…read more In terms of location, this hotel is only 20 minutes from Glasgow City centre and five minutes from Strathclyde Park. The hotel itself is situated at one end of the Hamilton Towers retail and leisure development in Hamilton town centre, surrounded by outlets such as: - Next - Vue Cinemas - Chiquito (The best in the area - check it out!) - Asda Having been a guest here for the first time last year (2014) I can see the improvements this hotel has continued to make over time, with new tv's, mattresses etc introduced in the last 6 months alone! The bathroom was clean and well-maintained, with a good-quality shower (plenty hot-water) and modern fixtures. The towels were soft and clean, with two bath sheets and two hand towels waiting in the room on arrival (though more can be requested from reception and delivered promptly). My only issue was that the shower curtain in the room didn't have enough hooks holding it up on this occasion, so I found myself rearranging the hooks to ensure the curtain didn't present a minor trip-hazard (entirely forgivable and insignificant). Standard offering of tea, coffee and kettle are present in the room - refilled each day with housekeeping. An alternative selection is available in the Hotel Lobby beside reception - hot chocolate, coffee variants etc. Breakfast is served in the hotel's Great Room, with scrambled eggs, sausages, muffins (I wish they'd bring back the Danish pastries), toast, croissants, cereals, yoghurt, fruit and a selection of accompaniments alongside. The hotel breakfast - while simple - offers a decent way to save a few pennies! I personally prefer to book a family room, as this offers a more comfortable environment for an extended stay (as has been the case where I've opted to tag on additional nights) with sofa, comfortable bed and a nice view out over the park. The staff are fantastic and will go out of their way to provide superb customer service - a component where some other hotels fall short. I'd struggle to identify a time where the colleague working at reception has failed to meet my request - even at the last minute! That positive, can-do attitude has gained my loyalty as a customer and left me feeling confident that I am valued as an individual and not just one of many guests. During my most recent visit, the hotel accommodated our request of a room overlooking the park with two separate bookings highlighted to ensure that we would not be asked to switch room between nights. When we arrived we were greeted and offered complementary drinks (as we are IHG Gold members) and as the stay included my birthday, the young colleague at the reception filled a bucket with ice so that my partner could place champagne on ice while we got settled. The tiniest of actions can help transform any stay and the atmosphere in this hotel certainly helped us relax!

I went to dinner and booked the room, so if you want a room in short notice NEVER walk into the building, book first. The room was clean and comfortable, very spacious but hearing that their company policy is turning people away at the door who may need a place to sleep was to me very unhelpful and rather pathetic. I have never been to this hotel since and would probably never go again.
