You know, menus, servers, the whole shebang. What I got was more of a "choose your own adventure" dining experience -- but with surprisingly good food. Let's be clear: the food? Excellent. Whoever's back there in the kitchen deserves a gold star and maybe a cheeky raise. Burgers? Juicy. Chips? Crispy. Portions? Generous enough to make you question your life choices halfway through. But here's the twist -- it's basically self-service. You want a pint? You get up. Cutlery? Go fetch. Table cleared? You're on your own, soldier. I half expected to be handed a mop and a staff badge on the way out. One more step and they'll have you washing your own dishes and clocking in for a shift. That said, the vibes are great. It's casual, friendly, and full of locals who clearly know the deal. Just don't go in expecting fine dining -- unless your idea of fine dining includes ordering at the bar like it's a school canteen with beer. In summary: come for the food, stay for the slightly confusing service model, and leave with a full belly and a mild identity crisis. 4 stars - would dine again (but might wear an apron just in case).

Real big. They say they have 27 television screens (a necessity during the world cup) and without counting, I'd tend to believe it. It's a Belhaven pub, a chain that seems to be increasing it's foothold recently. I'd go as far as to say this would be treated as the figurehead of the Belhaven chain, especially in the Glasgow area. I can't fault it. The staff were friendly, the drinks were fairly cheap, the atmosphere was fine... but it was just a bit... I don't know - clinical? There was that "IT" factor missing from the place that made me want to rush back. I think I may know what it was... I cast a longing glance along the road to The Doublet, one of my favourite haunts, as I went inside. I wanted to be there. There's something unique about that wee place. And therein lies the problem with The Old Schoolhouse. Bar the size of it, there's practically nothing unique. You could be in any pub, in any city, anywhere. Nothing wrong with that, and I wouldn't avoid it, but this is the very definition of a middle-of-the-road three star review.

They also don't have a menu online and the website is basic. This all flys in the face of most other bars now, who are all are busy trying to build their social media profile, giving you offers and trying to draw you in. Anyways enough background. Tempura prawns to start. They were huge and the sweet chill sauce that was with it was great to. On to the main which was a huge house burger rammed with chorizo, Chilli's, chorizo, an onion ring, etc. There is so many other burger places in Glasgow now, but the burger on offer here is as good as anything you will get elsewhere. We were seated up the top in the dining area and the place is an amazing restoration from the former cinema built in the 20s. It's got glamour and style, and I love how they've kept some of the seating area at the top - although the creepy mannequins are super... creepy. The only issue with this place is that its order at the bar (expect to be around 10 minutes) and the food menu is ridiculous. There was so many dishes to choose from (over 30, by my guess) that it took me ages to decide what to have. I ended up going for macaroni cheese with extra cheese (hey, it was an option). The food arrived to our table pretty quickly and actually, I really liked the macaroni cheese. It was obviously insanely cheesy but also had a nice crumb of cripsy breadcrumbs on top. Generous size and super cheap at around £5. While I can't imagine going out of my way to go here, it was a great place to spend a while for a birthday night out so if I was in Cambuslang again, I might make my way back.

They have left a lot of the old touches from the bingo hall that was open here many years back. I like that they have not ripped all the old history out. The beer range is amazing and cheap. Literally the cheapest I can think of in Glasgow. £1.70 for a pint of craft IPA is unheard of these days. They also do food, but I am not sure I would eat here, it's more a bar in my mind. That said I had some onion rings last night and they tasted fine. If this bar had set up in other parts of Glasgow this review would be different I think, but in Cambuslang for me this is the best thing to happen since I got here 5 years ago. It's a shame they don't play music, but you can't have everything I guess. If your a lost tourist, this place is safe to stop for a pint. If your a local not from the area originally and without a "local" bar you should give it a try. If you have lived in Cambuslang all your like and usually stick to your normal bars you should still also check it out. I reckon you will be surprised at the range and value for money.

There were few other diners. The place is outfitted with booths with a clear view onto the street and the back of the Glasgow Central Rail Station. The table was 'decorated' with salt 'n pepper, a printed menu clipped to an Beano hardcover - just the cover not the full Beano. We could make a choice out of 4 kinds of burgers, 2 sides each and soft drink, beer or wine . Beer it was. In fact we each got two 250ml Kronenbourgh 1664 - that was a pleasant surprise. Another surprise of a not so pleasant kind was the way the burgers came out. We both ordered the Bacon Burgers, and for sides we took Skinny Fries, Salad, Pickles & Salsa. The burgers were delivered bare. Yes, nude, undressed.. you name it. The chef's term would be 'naked'. Toasted burger buns with a plain burger and a couple of slices of unsmoked bacon and.. and..nothing. The sides were now actually making sense, so we decided this was like a children's party and we could make our own burger, hurray! We delighted in the opportunity to pick and choose and put as much salsa on it that I wanted, YES! All I needed was a 'Frozen' soundtrack, a party hat and a wistle. But reality caught up and our adult brain had to aknowledge that we actually ordered this in a Radisson Hotel. We got this annoying nagging uncomfortable feeling that all of this was a bit wrong. So big that on a Friday night at ~7pm it felt kind of empty, even though there were a few people around. We ordered a couple of beers (maybe just slightly pricier than average but not by much) and headed upstairs for a few rounds of pool. They have both American and British tables available. There's a £10 deposit to pay and then you pay by the hour for your time using the table, I think it was £5 an hour. I got beaten for 3 out of the 3 games that we played and while I'd like to blame Sportsters for that, I probably can't. During our games there was a little live music - a guy with a guitar was playing a few soft rock classics and he wasn't bad. It's perhaps a slightly odd thing to have in a sports bar but I thought it was a nice touch.
