The other half was only open at weekends in the evening with DJ's that was popular with a much younger crowd with an emphasis on metal music. There were some legendary parties in here, particularly come Halloween. For no obvious reason, the numbers dwindled over a few years until the place could no longer sustain itself and has now been replaced with a faceless interior that you could easily mistake for the work of JD and the Wetherspoons. Monday night in here is Poker night, with some of the best players in the Lanarkshire Nuts Poker League shuffling up every week without fail. It is dark and dingy inside, with sport on the telly and old men who look like they haven't moved from the seats they are in since about 1995. I'm sure some of them were dead. It wasn't my idea of a romantic venue for a wedding anyway. I ordered a bottle of house white, which was averagely priced at £10-ish. I was then given a glass with TWO different colours of lipstick marks on it, which meant that it hadn't been washed properly twice! That really put me off, and I left most of the wine (which, if you know me, very, very rarely happens, so it must have been awful)

Seemingly a favourite haunt for the ladies in Wishaw (one hen party plus at least 4 birthday parties present when I went), this place got really busy later on. It is free to get in, open late and does a deal that everyone was talking about at £80 (divided by however many people are in your party) which includes a bottle of vodka, mixers, cocktails, beers, RTD's etc. It looked like a lot of booze, for not a lot of money. Student night on Thursdays with great promos. A decent shout for a Glasgow alternative for folk in North Lanarkshire who want to avoid an expensive taxi home.

I love The George because of how wonderfully friendly the atmosphere is. It's located in a relatively busy part of Hamilton, and during the day serves a wonderful pub-grub food menu. The bar is fully stocked with malts, spirits and a selection of a few foreign beers in the fridges. It's also one of the only real ale pubs in Hamilton, and has won best ale pub in Lanarkshire various times! It has 3 alternating taps, which are extremely popular with the regulars. There's a DJ on both Friday and Saturday nights, with the crowd on Friday night being nearly packed out the door every week! There's a quiz night on Tuesdays run by Colin, the owner, and on Sundays the food menu isn't on, but there is a wonderful piping hot pot of free soup for all! You'll never meet a more accommodating place, as both children and dogs are welcome, and the owners Colin and Lynn are truly wonderful people who really love and care for the place, and in turn all of their customers.

I was heading here to see the amazing Jeff Jeffrey playing - always a good night out anywhere he plays, keep an eye out for him - but was also keen to see what the place was like inside. And it's perfectly acceptable pub fare - done up in traditional Scottish style, with plenty of shelves and drink resting surfaces, a lot of framed old pictures and what not - and you feel at home. It is small, and we were a group of about 10-15 or so, so we kinda took over a lot of the space, so that could be an issue. The local punters were nice and friendly, and the bar staff were great, tolerating our huge and often random round orders! It's nice to have staff that you can have a laugh and joke with too, always a plus. To sum up, if you're in the area, then I heartily recommend popping in. Going by the signs, they offer food during the day, your typical pub menu. Worth a go!
