Much changed from many years ago when I knew The Commercial Hotel, but now a nice, classy looking bar/restaurant, with lots of TV screens for watching the football (soccer). Our hotel room was comfortable. Small, but nice; no elevator, but no big deal. Free, private car park round the back which was good.
A UKP 5.00 (at the time of booking), Full Scottish Breakfast, including black pudding and haggis was really good; a cheaper continental and a lesser fried breakfast was also available.
It's virtually next door to "The Golden Fry", a (very) long established fish and chip shop, where the food tasted just as good today as I remember it 50 years ago; truly. Friendly service too.
A short walk from Belhaven Park and Wishaw Main Street, the latter of which, I remember as a little edgy back in the day, but Wishaw is now described as "sleepy". I think the heart was torn out of Wishaw when Ravenscraig Steelworks closed some years back, and everyone lost their jobs read more
