The food is quintessential southern fare. VERY GOOD! Courteous prompt service. Your fountain drink or tea (sweet or un) continues to get refilled long before you get to the bottom of the glass. Prices are VERY reasonable. Excluding the tip, I can eat there and get a nutritshous wholesome meal, served with a cornbread muffin and/or yeast roll for the same price as fast food! Our experience at the Old Fort restaurant was unexpected. The building on the outside was unimpressive, but inside, the service, the surroundings, and the food was just great! I had the catfish sandwich and my husband had the fried shrimp and both were hot and fresh and delicious. So glad that we came here instead of going to fast food somewhere. Family-owned for generations, a great grandkid coming to get you when your table is ready. Decor is 90% photos of people you don't know and guess, the owners aren't concerned. Coffee and sweet tea are bottomless and biscuits are a staple, even if you order a salad. Quintessential South and comforting as can be. There's no frills here. Random sets of different colored plates, old Coke cups for drinks, plain white mugs. But the food, oh it's honest as your best friend giving a speech at your wedding reception. Biscuits made by hand, country ham that will dehydrate your very soul (but so delicious), and desserts that'll make you lie about your memaw's cooking. So if you're on I-75 (it's only 3 minutes off the Exit) or live anywhere in the region, get up early and make a trip. But be ready, you might need a nap before returning home. Another one of my favorite country restaurants. I heard about from a friend of mine. Actually, her mama told her about how good it was. Then, my friend told me all about it. I always get what I call country food. Like what I got today. See pictures. Alright, here goes. The mashed potatoes was soft and delicious to eat with a taste of butter and easy on the stomach. The macaroni and cheese was very creamy which is a requirement and it meets it. Cornbread was good just put some butter in it . Finally, country fried steak was good but a little cold. I ate it anyway. They do have at least two tv's in here. One,to the left when you come in the front door. The second tv is the right when you come in. As far as customer service is concerned, my waitress was very attentive as my glass of sweet tea never got less than half full. We travel quite a bit and are always on the lookout for a good diner for breakfast. Old Fort was on one the best we've found. The restaurant is extremely clean and we were quickly seated. Coffee arrived soon after and our orders taken. Schweety ordered a Western omelet as usual and I simply had two eggs over easy, hash browns, bacon and rye toast. This is a homey local meat and three restaurant. The space is ample and airy. Unfortunately the food was not particularly good or pleasurable. I got the meat and three entree. The country fried stake was a little too salty and the flavor was underwhelming, not very good. Of the veggie sides, the steamed cabbage was my favorite, very good, but the turnip greens were not seasoned Southern style; they tasted boiled in salt water and that's it. The fried okra was fine. The cornbread was very disappointing. Dry, not much flavor to it, and I used it to soak up the extra gravy, but then it was too salty. Overall a decent eat, and very affordable.
