This review is LONG overdue. We've camped here dozens of times over the years. Starting in the mid 1970's when this was still a KOA owned by the nicest guy named John. We camped in tents, a pop-up tent camper, a truck camper, a travel trailer, and lastly, in their cabins. Bottom line, it didn't matter where we slept. We always came back to this same campground. They are in a perfect location in the Adirondack Mountains and in walking distance to the town of Old Forge and Enchanted Forest Water Safari & Amusement Park. There's a nice pond for swimming, fishing, and non motorized boating. There's beautiful hiking trails & plenty of wildlife. Yes, including bear, which we saw on most of our trips there. Please don't feed them! They'll normally not bother you if you leave them alone. Feed the chipmunks instead. This is honestly one of my favorite places I've ever visited, filled with many special family adventures and memories. Under new ownership as of 2024 (?) things just aren't as nice. Bathrooms are cleaned less; brick patio at the main lodge always dirty (it used to be hosed off daily!), and campsites are no longer raked. And a petty point but noticeable: flowers in flower box at lodge next to men's room need to have shade plants in them--not marigolds! It has become obvious after camping here the last 2 seasons with my children & grandchildren, less care is given overall , including the number of employees--working short. Disappointed as we've been coming here for 32 years. Looking for an Airbnb next summer. read more

I used to go regularly. This is my second time with the new owner, but last summer they were still doing the hand off. Now that the new owner is fully in command...don't go. The workers are non-local and brought in from all over the world. Since there are no ties to the community, they don't care about guest satisfaction. Barely any of the activities offered in the campground are available due to staff shortage. Our cabin, which was allegedly cleaned was in fact dirty. The bathrooms are old, in poor condition, and dirty. There was also no toilet paper for almost a full day. Contrary to what is put out there on their site, the water park will close if the smoke from Canadian wildfires is strong enough. You'll get refunded for tickets if that's the case, but not your trip unless you complain a lot in person and online. The general store is overpriced, go two miles down the road to the actual store. Get firewood elsewhere as their stuff should be classified as kindling and not firewood. For the price they charge per bundle you'd think you were burning rosewood. The laundry facilities are all out of order, and the public kitchens are unclean as well. The bed pads are about an inch thick for the bigger beds, 3 inches for the bunks. Even if I got a cottage next time I'd still bring tons of cleaning supplies. If you really are intent on the stay and play package. Go to the waters edge inn. Same owner but way better experience. read more

We booked our 4th July camping trip in Sept of 2025. Not 1x did they mention you couldn't use your AC. Just a few days (6/29) before we left I shared my confirmation with friends who were also going and that's when I noticed in EXTRA small print that you couldn't use AC, I thought maybe that was for their cabins, since we paid for FULL hookup I didn't think it was meant for us. We arrived on July 1st a day before our friends were supposed to arrive. Checked in and not once did they state you couldn't use AC. I didn't ask because again we paid for full hookup. Sitting at the camp site in 95 degree weather, I'm reading their pamphlet and in BOLD it says NO AC UNITS or heaters can be run. I then asked campers next to us and they said they never knew this and they said we're running our AC anyways. I then took a picture of the pamphlet and sent it to our friends and told them they better bring a fan. They were livid when they saw that especially since we paid for full hookup. We all had pets and there's NO WAY you can sleep in a camper in these high temps without AC. Even though we kept the AC off during the day after the camper sat in the sun all day it was like hot oven and it didn't matter if you ran the AC at night, it took forever to cool the camper down. Our friends ended up canceling and they didn't receive their full deposit back and they were charged a $25 cancel fee. Our 4th of July friends weekend was ruined. We didn't even stay the full weekend . Lesson learned, we will NEVER go back to Old Forge Camping Resort again. read more

Glad we came again. We came once in 2006 and it was memorable, so much that my boys, now grown wanted to go again. So, in October of 2023, me and my two sons and my soon-to-be daughter-in-law, came for a visit, and we were determined to return. So, this year, my two sons, and my now daughter-in-law came before the summer season. We rented two cottages (these are great), next to each other, and this year our cottages had the best view of Lake Serene, and we were greeted with deer and a duck, we named "quackers" because he was a lone duck and kept joining our group. We will come again when we are able. I loved it, and we all needed a break. It's the kind of vacation you don't have to do anything but sit around a fire, eat and talk, even over the screens of your phone, where you're taking more photos than using the device. read more

Campsite we had was so full of dirt, rocks, roots and on a slope so exaggerated we could not completely level our camper. Sites are packed in and the place is chaos from check in to check out. We also learned from neighbors that their electric service was cut off due to running the A/C in their camper. Supposedly they have a policy that you cannot run your A/C in your RV, which nobody seems to be aware of even though you pay to have electric. If you want A/C they tell you you can run a generator between 8:00am-10:00pm. Nothing obviously during quiet hours. In decades of RVing I have never heard of such a thing. We will never go near this resort again!! read more

My first and last visit. Reservation was for two nights but ended up leaving after one long sleepless night. There was an event going on with live music blaring so sleep was impossible. People are loud with little regard for common courtesy. Lots of drunk campers recklessly driving golf carts at high speeds through the campground at all hours. The campsites are extremely close to one another allowing for no privacy. The tent sites are tiny and extremely unlevel and full of rocks. Had to squeeze the tent in between trees and boulders on a hill. Roads are atrocious with ruts and pot holes. Not good for front end alignments. Will never return and would not recommend. read more

We stayed here about 15 years ago as a family. It was affordable and the cottage that we rented was brand new. I decided to rent a cottage for a couple of days to bring my granddaughter. We just checked in and the place is disgusting. The cottage is Old and worn out and dirty. The floor had a big puddle on it. The bathroom smells like urine the shower curtain was still wet. The windows can't be open because the screens are filthy and broken when I did open a window. There were some unfinished cigarette butts sitting on the windowsill. This place is not economical. Our view is a parking area and the fire pit is a pile of sand with a couple of stones thrown around it and it's right in the parking lot. Unfortunately, all of the cottages in this area are so overpriced that people have no choice but to Rent something a little cheaper. But with this place, you certainly don't get what you pay for because it's absolutely disgusting. Very just disappointed. read more

I love this campground and staff! Restrooms are always clean, well stocked and well maintained. Grounds are well kept and it's obvious as you can see the improvements made every time we visit. I'm a guy and, as my wife can attest to, guys do not ask for help. I tell you true...I got my trailer in a very tight spot recently there while trying to back into our site. After expending a lot of testosterone...I called the office for help. Office staff (Sarah) super pleasant and quickly relayed my distress call to Dustin and John. Not certain which one arrived on the tractor but with a smile he quickly and very skillfully fixed my error. I can't thank them enough. 6 stars for this campground!!' read more

Had a great experience. We stayed at a tent site for 1 night and had so much fun. The camping space was pretty big. There were so many amenities offered (having a real bathroom while camping was amazing) and I wish that we could have stayed longer to explore the campground more!! We got the campsite/water safari combo ticket and it was such a great deal. We were prepared to see black bears but did not encounter any. Our only "issue" was that we had some noisy neighbors but that wasn't a big deal. Can't wait to come back!! read more

We spent two days here and it was sufficient. The campground in our section 300's is very tight. As I sit here this morning I can see 8 campers within 50yds. They are not super friendly when you check in very efficient but not welcoming. The hiking trail is really nice around the lake (pond) and beach is small but doable for kids. No dog run; the prices in the store are pricey as well but they do sell beer!! the 700's section is much more spacious. Maybe we would try there... overall campground is very crowded bathrooms are far away. Also you pay for hookups not super expensive $65 a night but you are not allowed to run AC?! read more

A great spot for a very good price. You are a short drive/walk to downtown Old Forge and 10 minutes from Inlet. If you get a cabin instead of a cottage, you may not want to walk to the nearest bathroom in the middle of the night. This place has everything! A very well stocked camp store. Food beverages, coffee, souvenirs, camping needs, etc. Canins are clean and smell good. Many sites are good for group camping. Here again. We have been coming this camp resort for the past 3 years and it's one of our favorite spots. We come during September and this year was a double time year. I come for the fishing and every outing between my wife and I we catch and release about 15-20 large mouth bass ranging from 8 inch to 20 inches! This year was no exception, second day I snagged an 18 incher. We stay right in the lake. However, each year the sites slant more to the lake. This year I had to raise backend 8 inch to get level. They NEED TO OVERHAUL THESE MOST POPULAR SITES. Of course they won't because they know they are prime location and people will rent them. Oh well. They have a harvest fest weekend we always avoid! Traffic. But this year we will stay for it since our grandkids will be coming with the family. So much to do. The walk into Old Forge takes about 20 min. So no car is needed. They have great arcade room. Excellent waterfront for swimming, paddle boats too. And of course I love the fishing. This place is worth the visit if you are in the ADK and want a great little town to walk thru with plenty of shops, water sport rentals, adk clothing and eateries. They have a great Life is Good store and the hardware store is infamous in this area. Next to Lake Placid, it's a must stop. read more

APPARENTLY DRUNK DRIVING IS PROMOTED HERE. We had a family group here for camping. We had noise complaints which there was noise, and noise at surrounding campsites. Security was friendly the first night and made a comment that they needed us to quiet down but had "no concern" if we had people driving drunk throughout the campgrounds. Security got in our family members face and were very confrontational. Later that night after things were calm and we were sitting talking at a picnic table security and management came down and told us we need to quiet down again. Very unprofessional staff here. False accusations of people in our group throwing firecrackers and beer cans at cars so that we would get kicked out of the campground by law enforcement. If you want to have a lame time, this is the place for you. read more

First time for us. Initially reserved cabin but upgraded to cottage 46 after further consideration of public restrooms/pandemic situation. I'm a disabled veteran Persian gulf era and brought a friend and my service dog. We stayed two nights 9/14-16. First impression driving in - nice place, well kept up. I selected 46 bc map showed it to be bigger site. Was hoping for grass around camp but was mostly dirt/sand. 2 piles of dog business were in the small grassy area right side of camp near fire pit. Cottage was quite clean, nicely equipped, all wood. Very comfortable for our needs but 6 would be too much for me. We unpacked and focused on getting fire & supper rolling. We meal planned for smoked bbq night1 and to use leftovers for a chili day2. It's a small, portable hybrid smoker the size of a crockpot that converts into a slow cooker. Was excited to see an external outlet near the picnic table & fire pit. We freighted all 3 racks of the smoker with ribs, chicken and hot sausage and started it @4. We brought a considerable amount of wood bc we knew it was pricy on site. Got a rockin fire going, tunes, corn hole set up. Got our drink on, our 420 on & started throwing bags. Started losing light around 7, smoker was throwing delicious smells and we retreated to our chairs by the fire. My dog was on a 25' tether on front of cottage. He is a pit/blue tick mix @75lbs, very fit & muscular. @745ish my dog emitted a low growl I had never heard in his 4yrs. It kept going and then a huge bear casually strolled right into our site, up to the front of the table, nose to nose with my dog, dog still growling, bear snarls & shows massive teeth then pulls back and comes towards me & the smoker despite the fire & dog. I started yelling & banging the fire poke on table, bear proceeded to my Escalade- hatch was open for wood. He stood up behind it and towered above it then put 2 feet inside as if to crawl in. I grabbed a metal camp chair and the poke stick, ran at bear beating on chair & yelling go bear. He got out of my truck and I chased him off. Probably aged me 5yrs. Our lives, my truck, our food was all threatened. We brought everything inside and numbed the adrenaline out of us. A completely unforgettable experience. The bears are in charge. He kept going around the other camps then back to us. My background post military was as a forester in Maine where I was quite accustomed to interacting with wildlife. Bears had always been terrified of dogs in my experience. Not this guy. We were lucky. Hopefully this helps people with the 411 here. My opinion is that they should send staff through on golf carts every few hours to monitor, put up some motion lights and step up the warnings in general. Obviously the food was the catalyst but never did I consider that we would be approached directly with us present, my dog right there and a big fire going. I handled the situation on pure instinct but I could see someone with heart/health issues having a major problem here. It took a long time to calm down. We didn't realize we were at a petting zoo with no trainers. I was mostly terrified for my dog - he was no match for a 400lb bear but would have given his life for me. Overall we liked it there but the first night was a lifetime experience. read more

Spent a few nights in a cottage at the old forge camping resort. It's pretty nice here. The difference between the cottages and cabins is you get a bathroom with a shower in it so you don't have to share your toilet with the Bears lol. Apparently there was a bear wandering around the campgrounds while we were there but did not see it. They are pretty strict with the quiet times as well as keeping your site free of food left out. I got yelled at for one marshmallow that was on the ground, I didn't even know was there. Apparently it's a $250 fine for baiting the bears. There is a small lake you can rent paddle boats and kayaks. Also a little beach area for swimming. Plus enchanted forest water safari is right down the road, so it's a great place for families. read more

Have you ever seen the movie (The Great Outdoors) it had John Candy in it. Well let's just say our weekend turned out just like the movie(well kinda). We had a great time we went up for Aloha weekend. The weekend had tons of activities for the kids all day long. They had a limbo challenge a hula hoop challenge and yes a watermelon eating contest. For the watermelon contest adults could participate too. No hands just face first into the watermelon. Dance and karaoke at night.They also had pulled pork salt potatoes for sale a a reasonable price. A fun filled weekend. A great staff, clean cabins and bathrooms. Every employee was super smiley and friendly. Now back to the movie. We were up in a cabin loop with all six cabins rented out by us friends so we had the whole loop so we didn't need to worry about unwanted traffic or other people bothering us. It was just around dusk. We were all out playing corn hole. The kids were out and all the adults were out. We heard a cooler fall of the porch of the cabin I looked and it was a mother bear and two cubs. I starting yelling bear as loud as I could. I did not want the cubs to come out where the kids were because I didn't want the mom to be aggressive. The kids started running into cabins and I made myself as big as I could and started walking towards the mother as I was banging two pieces of wood together shouting at it. I only did that because of the kids I did not want the bear to chase them. Ok so they ran off. Now the kids are scared and ready for bed. About 2 hours later only 3 of us adults were still up at the fire. Now I hear something coming towards us from the woods OUT COMES A 400 POUND BEAR so big I could hear it breathing yes a huge bear missing some fur on his side but not on the top of his head walking about 5 yards from us it starts sniffing at the cars. It stands up at the back of my friends truck looking in the Windows. Now this enormous bear walks to my truck. My truck was still unlocked because that's where my cooler of beer is. So the bear opens my door gets in my truck. I am screaming at this thing to get out. Waking up the entire campground. It leaves my car runs off and then another bear appears I'm not sure if it was the same one and this bear got into my friends van. These bears are so smart that it opens doors and steals food and it leaves behind the empty packages. What a great weekend and a night I will never forget. read more

We stayed here for the first time in February. We decided to go up for a couple of days to get away from the daily grind. We were so pleasantly surprised. It snowed the entire time we were there. Which was ok with us, since we went up to do some riding on the many miles of beautiful snowmobile trails located in and around Old Forge. The Cottage was comfortable private and clean! Cozy and well worth the little extra packing I did to have the amenities of home. We will be returning~ The staff was great too! read more

We have been coming to the Old Forge Campground for many years. This the most exciting year we had for 2019. The Campground is being maintained very well. They are always doing preventive maintenance on the buildings, sites and cleaning up the sites. The laundry room and restrooms are clean. The staff are professionals, courtesy, and friendly. Willing to assist on matters all the times. The front desk staff are exceptional. The park is close to downtown and the water park. Catch the bus/shuttle or walk. We have made our reservations for next year already to get insure we get our favorite campsite. Make your reservations early for a site or in the cabin. We have that ADK fever! Thanks for the Campground Management and staff for making our great experience and welcoming stay. This a five star campground. read more

Worst site ever. Complained to the manager that it took me 1 1/2 hours to set up because of the poor condition of the site and how unlevel it is. She showed no concern, no remorse, and just kept repeating how it looked on paper. I asked her to come look at it and she refused. She has probably never been past the office and obviously has never set up a camper. She eventually agreed to have a grounds person come out, who then brought out 10 bucket loads of crushed stone to make our site safe enough for our stay. Stayed here one night in a cabin, easy checkin. We were late after the office closed by our papers were pinned on a board with a map on how to get to our cabin. The light and heater were on for us when we arrived. Beds were not bad, a little hard but better than sleeping on the ground that's for sure. It was cozy and we SAW NO BEARS. Even when we went to the bathroom at night time. The bathroom was very close as well. Would stay again!! read more

I've been coming here in the fall for 5 years now, the first 2 years I stayed in a cottage with my sisters and friends. The next 2 years my husband and I came up in our RV and have stayed Monday through Friday avoiding the weekend crowd. But this year we stayed the weekend because our grandchildren came up for the harvest event. My daughter, son in law and 2 grandchildren stayed in a cabin and spent the day time at our RV. We always get a water front site so we can have easy access to the lake with our kayaks. We like to fish and there is bass in the lake. The lake is call Lake Serene which describes it perfectly. There is a nice and easy hiking trail around the lake. It takes about an hour with many stops to view the scenery. The staff at a lodge are very friendly and eager to help. The Harvest event was great for our 4 and 5 year old grandchildren. If you want a lake front site or any site during the weekend you have to reserve it a year and advance. read more

Just returned home yesterday from two nights in a cabin here. We had such a great time. It was not very busy, the bathrooms were very clean way cleaner than any other campsite bathroom I've ever been in. The cabin was cute and clean. We used the paddle boats on site the 1st day, they were clean and easy to use, we even caught a big fish! Our neighbors were nice and everyone was quiet after dark. We were greeted by a deer on our site when we first arrived, and on our last night we saw two bears! This place was awesome! I would highly recommend it. read more

Great experience staying here! We have brought a camper in the past, some of the sites are quite tight to back into. This past week, we rented a cottage, bigger than a cabin we originally had reserved. They sleep 6, have a kitchenette and bathroom which eliminates a walk in the dark or line for a shower. Super nice, and clean facilities. Staff was great in assisting changing our reservation last minute and they are super accommodating within reason. Be sure to keep vehicles locked at all times and food inside vehicles or cabins/ cottages, including coolers. A neighbor had a bear in their unlocked car one morning, after disregarding the warnings. No damage, but hassle when the police have to come and chase it off with rubber bullets. My only complaint is no ceiling fans in the cabins or cottages, you can bring a fan but unfortunately no ac. I figured with this rule they would have some better air flow. Bring an air mattress or mattress topper, the mattresses they have/ sleeping pads are horribly uncomfortable, even doubled up to make them thicker. They also require you provide your own sheets so come prepared. Beautiful lake with canoe and paddle boat rentals, and some smaller fish were caught one evening while fishing. Catch and release only. Small swimming area, bring a tube to float out on the lake further for a better swimming area, no lifeguard so you watch your kids. Definitely come, great place to spend some time. read more

This is a great place to stay. Perfect location. Sites are clean, wooded, average size. The staff is kind and helpful. Bathrooms and showers are clean and available. Nice beach on a beautiful lake. Plenty to do. We just wished they rented Kayaks and SUPs. read more

Very dissatisfied. AC not allowed to be run at this campground. Asked to shorten our stay due to extreme heat and was told "no. If I refunded you I would have to refund the whole campground". There is no pool, no cable, Cell service is spotty, and no WiFi. Not sure what we are paying $61 a night for here. read more

First time staying and will NOT be returning! We stayed at a tent site with our 2 year old and 4 year old, and were happy with site size, proximity to bathrooms/showers. Where it went bad is when the sun went down, the volume level went up in the campground. People had no regard for the posted quiet hours of 10p-8a. Now I understand that this is a campground with hundreds of people there on any given night, however there was music blasting well past midnight, a group of teens was running around throwing firecrackers at campsites which we could hear exploding all throughout the campground also well past midnight. By the time the partiers were either passed out or decided to go to bed, the sun was coming up and the birds began chirping, leaving me with maybe 3hrs of sleep at most. In the morning I went to the Lodge to talk to somebody about the unruly atmosphere and was told since I never called security they would do nothing for me. I was unaware of a security guard being on duty, and if there was one on duty I cannot believe he did not hear all of the firecrackers and obnoxiously loud partying going on all night long. The woman at the Lodge who was some level of manager was very unhelpful and kept repeating over and over how sorry she was, but refused to take any action, ultimately allowing an extremely unhappy customer walk out the door to never return. This is supposed to be a family friendly fun environment, it is clearly not the priority of management to ensure that. Do not waste your money here!!! read more

I have stayed here with friends and family 10+ years. I have always loved staying here until this year. There was a domestic dispute with another couple during our stay. A child was in the arms of her father when the mother swung at the father. After that security and police were called. This couple was not asked to leave the next day when they sobered up. The next day my child along with other children in our group had to endure racial comment. We let it just not to escilate things any further. When we were leaving and asked how our stay was, we explained what happened to the manager. He said there was nothing they could do we should have moved our spot and next year when reserving our cabin ask for a child friendly area. Fyi this couple had a child! They offered nothing to keep my business and turned the situation in to what we should have done differently. After 10 years of visiting this campground we will not be returning, not because of an ignorant couple but due to lack of compassion from management. read more
