Unfortunately we had a terrible experience at Clark's Beach Motel and our recommendation is to avoid it. The rating of 1 1/2 stars speaks for itself and I should have known better. My husband had several bites (total of 20+ bites, see photos) appear a short while after each time he slept on our bed. I did not get bitten; however different individuals can experience different immune reactions after being bit. The owner, Garret, was very responsive in checking the mattress and we appreciated that. Garret's conclusion, however, was entirely unacceptable. He said there was no evidence of bedbugs in the mattress and my husband was likely bitten on a hike, etc. Newly hatched bed bug nymphs are tiny and can be nearly see-through, making them almost impossible to detect. And yes, nymphs bite humans! My husband is certain he was getting bit by something in the bed. He asked Garret if we can we can either 1. get a new mattress or 2. move to a different room (there were many vacant rooms available). Garret said no to both options. My husband asked why we couldn't get a new mattress (he claimed that the issue wasn't the mattress) and why we couldn't switch rooms (Garret would have had to pay an additional cleaning fee). My husband said we would be willing to pay the additional cleaning fee (Garret said no). We would have been more than happy to assist Garret and his team in exchanging the mattress. Garret said he would not accommodate us as we trashed the room. Yes, our belongings were strewn all over and we had accumulated garbage in one corner (there is no daily maid service at Clark's) but we never abused the room in any way. We have stayed in many hotels and motels, and in many air b n b's over the years; we have never, ever received a poor review. Attached are pictures of the state in which we left the room. At $180 per night (incidentally the mattresses were awful - when my 150 lb husband sat on the edge of ours, the corner sunk a foot downward), customers should expect more. Garrett's daughter Haley and his wife Heather were polite and very accommodating. Shame on you, Garret, for treating customers this way. Avoid Clark's Beach Motel. There are many other nice options in Old Forge, Eagle Bay, and Inlet. read more

The front desk is nice until you complain. No Wi-Fi, they should take it off their amenities list, because if it's not working it's your tough luck. And how they let you know one can surmise they never have wifi. No refunds, I would never recommend this place or stay there ever again. I really have no words other than rude. They know their location is prime and have no care how they treat their guests as people will continue to stay there. It's reasonably priced and right in town. Would be humbling for them to loose their business. I'll pay more staying at an air bnb then ever booking here again. If you do book, go through third party and purchase insurance. Let's start with location. It's perfect, walkable to food, drinks, shops, basically everything for a getaway in Old Forge, including the Tobie trail. Keep in mind that it's a basic motel, not a 5 star resort. But it has comfy beds, with decent sheets, and towels. Definitely worth the upgrade for a Lakeview room. Because ... you get a screened in porch with a bonus - the ability to open the adjoining door and get some fresh air (seasonally LOL). The owner was helpful when my plans kept changing, because I was coming into a town after the death of a family member. I was allowed to make changes more than once. I was just in Old Forge for the parade and to catch up with friends. I arrived into Old Forde around 6:30 on Friday night. The Vancany sign was off however I still went in . I was greeted by a very friendly lady. She had just explained that a guest had just canceled their reservation. I stayed in room 19 which I highly recommend. It's a corner room with a balcony overlooking the Oldforge pond. It is very quiet and super easy access. I was within walking distance of all the attractions I wanted to see. In the morning I sat on the balcony and looked across the frozen pond. no that's the way to start your day. i've been around the world I highly recommend this place to stay.. read more

The #1 con is the owner, she is not nice at ALL. I bought the room for my daughter, 23 and her bf. The owner treated them horribly. When I showed up for billing issues she was nasty to me as well, told me my card was declined, then actually ran it correctly and it was fine, never a smile or any change of miserable attitude. I know people like to complain about kids these days, but my kid was decent, the owner, not so much. The only saving grace, I did have the pleasure of speaking with the daughter of the owner and she was lovey. Clean room. We were in Old Forge for snofest weekend so prices were elevated to hat would be my only con. The bedding was fresh and clean so were the room and bathroom. They offer an indoor pool. The best part is location! You are in walking distance of everything ! I will do a return visit but it will not be during the winter again unless I have a snowmobile. read more

Needed a few rooms at the last minute due to the asshole owner at The Lodge on Main behind George's Liquor Store kicking us out because we had a few "unauthorized" visitors who stopped in to say 'hi' for a short visit. Clarks Beach Motel owner Heather was more than happy to help us salvage the rest of our vacation and found two rooms and a two bedroom townhouse overlooking the beach. We found her to be very personable, friendly and most of all helpful. The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable. We had screened-in porches overlooking the beach. You're not going to get 4-star Hilton hotel accommodations here, but it's in a great location within walking distance to everything in Old Forge's business district - and as such you are paying for the location and convenience (bear in mind that everything in the ADK costs more). read more

This Motel Experience was preplanned for my Grandchildren visiting from Florida to go to Water Safari. We came hoping for a welcoming experience and one to remember. I can say that I am very disappointed. My Fiancé used to come here for years. He is telling me this motel was never run the way it is now. The check in was a pure indication that I was the only guest checking in for the day ! I was told My Name before I could indicate who I was. There was a new person being oriented to the computer so all The focus was on this person. Since it was going to be a cool rainy day, I was hoping for some conversation On what else to do if we ran into rain but there was none. The room was very basic, no coffee maker, fridge or Microwave. When the second day of our stay arrived, it was clear there was no maid. I actually overheard Potential "maids" looking for work turned away at the front desk while we were using the room behind the desk near the indoor pool .which was the only amenity. The management tried to blame me for not Putting the card on the door correctly to say we were Ready for maid service. No clean towels were ever brought to our room or offered unless I went personally to the desk to ask for them. Even after asking the second day, I was asked to do their job by bringing the dirty towels to the pool room and put them in the pool towel basket myself before being given new towels. Another problem is removal of trash. I went to the office to ask when the trash would be emptied since we had brought in take out etc. I was questioned about exactly how much garbage I had ????? Seriously ??? Isn't that why I am paying to be in the room ??? Something called SERVICE !!!! I was given 2 garbage bags to empty my own garbage and bring it to the office. Not even mentioning changing bed linen because that did not happen, and at this point did not expect as was told " The Maid left for the day ". The indoor pool onsite had a sign inside that said open until 9 Pm. Yet, the first night we were told to leave at 6pm. We later found that the office totally closed at 7 pm!! If we had any problems , we were on our own. Very Overpriced with no regard for where I could have gone down the street and got a high quality room with Breakfast and Free Calypso Cove tickets this week! I certainly made the wrong choice . This is one of the worst hotels I've been in although its like your standard hotel beds bathroom tv etc. My room had 3 beds so its pretty cramped also the bed I slept on was broken it shook a lot. Wanna bring a coffee machine well sorry no cooking allowed in the rooms you gotta use the microwave and coffee machine in the main building even though you might be a early bird and the building might be locked. Also the lamp shade was crooked and light. The wifi turned off and on frequently . The upsides are probably the porch and heated pool. Other than that the room was pretty horrible. Also something that confused me was the gave out hot water if you want steamy water just use your shower because that waters to hot.Even if you like hot showers that is to hot. The tv's volume jumped up and down that got annoying quickly. read more

Typical tourist motel, high prices, low amenities, but location around the corner from the water park was terrific. The screened porch overlooking the beach is nice. The wifi was dreadful and the two electric outlets in the room only half worked. It was clean with comfortable beds, but dark with a lightbulb out. Ac worked well. We could park directly in front of the room. We appreciated that a room that sleeps six was actually provided 6 towels-unlike the 3 we often find now. It was the best priced place we could find, so we're satisfied we got the best we could. read more

We just stayed here for one night and to say it was truly AWFUL is an understatement. The staff were rude. At one point we were gathering our things to walk out of the motel room and a man screamed across the parking lot, "Close the door, the heat is on!" We we're so taken back that someone from the Motel would scream at a guest. The rooms are dirty and there is no place to park. We booked the room for three nights and had to leave emergently after the first night and they refused to make any acceptions to their cancellation policy. We frequently visit Old Forge and will NEVER STAY AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT again. I truly hope that everyone who reads this will opt to avoid this place, they are just horrible people. read more

I had never actually stayed in a hotel where I went out and purchased new sheets and pillows and then slept in a sleeping bag until I stayed here. Not only were the rooms beyond filthy, there was a major mold problem and I woke up with a completely swollen face both nights I stayed there, and was sick for a week after I left. On top of that, the owner was incredibly rude and unwilling to discuss any issues with me. The best part is that after I left, I was assessed a $150 cleaning fee for somehow leaving it dirtier than I found it. Normally I would just let it go, but that's an outright lie since I spent several hours cleaning the hotel suite (not only were the bedrooms vile, so were the bathrooms and the kitchen - the utensils were sticky) after I arrived to make it tolerable, and I cleaned again it on my way out, too. Oh, and also, someone was FOR REAL murdered in one of the rooms, and they don't tell you which one. read more

If I could give No Stars it would be a better fit. Other than providing a roof over our heads our experience was bad from the minute we walked through the door. We had booked a room for 4 adults and 2 children and were told upon check-in that they would not allow that many people in a room. One child age not yet 2 sleeps in portable crib, child age 4 sleeps on portable cot. We were forced to get two rooms after being told we had the last room when we booked. Also upon booking, we were told there was a 2-night minimum. The second room added an additional $300+ to our stay. The second room was musty, the AC filter was clogged, the room temp reached 80 degrees in the middle of the night, we had noise from adjoining rooms--annoying. The staff at check-in and check-out were less than cordial. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this motel. read more

We had to cancel two days before our stay because we had a family emergency and we can no longer go on the trip. I booked through Expedia and they tried to help me negotiate some sort of refund. The hotel would not offer ANY refund (I am not unreasonable I understand there should be some fee) and I was directed to speak with the hotel to see if they would help me. Upon speaking with the hotel they would not do anything for me and insisted I call Expedia and cancel the reservation so they can rebook the room (and make double the $$). I find that disgusting. To offer nothing and then insist that I be sure to cancel so they can rebook is terrible customer service and a lack of human decency. The location is nice and the pool is nice. Some of the staff are friendly but we did have a negative run in with the girl that worked nights. I don't think it's appropriate to argue about the amount of toilet paper you should be giving out. We had a girls trip and there was 6 of us. For the price we paid for that dirty room why on earth would you argue about a roll of toilet paper. Not to mention the attitude we got when it was time to leave the pool due to the covid restrictions. That's not even the worst part. The room was absolutely nasty. I took pictures of the condition of room B. Stains on mattress cover that was obviously not washed. The wall paper was peeling off, the paint in the bathroom is peeling , the toilet felt like it was going to fall through the floor when you sit on it and the shower is unsafe! You literally get scolded when showering. My daughter was burnt and so was everyone else in the party. If they don't get this fixed they will have a lawsuit. The temperatures change when your in there and it's painful to say the least. Not worth the money and it's sad to see it went down hill. read more

Room was clean enough, had plenty of hot water/pressure. Heat was good. Outside of that - book somewhere else if you can. We went during the winter to snowmobile but could only park either our sleds or our vehicle - not both - in front of our room. Even though they had many rooms available (with no one scheduled to check in) they wouldn't budge from their strict rules. The trailer had to be parked off site (not within walking distance) along with our vehicle. We met the owner, and she was very pleasant, but anyone else we encountered, was uncooperative, unfriendly and unhelpful. No coffee pot, microwave or hair dryer, but did have fridge. Wifi was so lame I couldn't use my computer on it, so had to use my personal hotspot. The location is fantastic, that's why we chose it, but it was overpriced for sure. The Forge Motel next door, where we usually stay, is MUCH better. I'll stay further out of town next time if Clark's is our only option. read more

Staff/ owners were extremely friendly and offered any assistance you may have needed. Parking right in front of you room, able to walk to many restaurants and bars. Stayed here for a family wedding. We were supposed to get "special pricing" as a block of rooms were reserved. That wasn't true. We were told that we had to book for a minimum of two nights ($172/night by the way), but when a family emergency came up, they wouldn't let us out of one of the nights. Come to find out, not all the guests had to reserve for two nights, so that's the second "non-truth." Room was extremely dated and smelled like mold. Some of the people who booked the "reserved rooms" received a discount the second night, but not us. When I brought this to management's attention, I was told those people were lying to me. REALLY???? Front desk staff was rude no matter, bed was incredibly hard, and the air conditioner was loud. WAY OVERPRICED! I've stayed at Hiltons that cost less and were a whole lot nicer. Location is the best thing about it. Rooms are old and decrepit. We found matches and trash on the floor. One woman with light brown hair was just rude. First time I went in office she walked by me; went in another room and then came back. I asked if we could just park our car in front of our room since it was 12:30 and guest were gone. She said no and walked away. The woman with dark hair who actually checked me in was great. The next morning I went to get tea and the brown hair lady was at the front desk. She looked up when I came in and never said a word - not hello, can I help you. I got my tea she looked at me again and not a word. If you're miserable in your job then leave. We booked a night in this motel as part of a 3-day trip to the Adirondacks that we had to cancel due to a child's illness. The motel has a non-cancellation policy, which I understand, but we called hoping for some sort of exception given that it would obviously be easy to re-rent our room during a peak tourist season. Not only was the management unwilling to do this, but when I tried to change the reservation so that at least some members of other family could possibly make the trip, the motel voided our reservation completely so that they could rebook the room and make double the money. This is a similar story to one mentioned in another review. While as a business, I'm sure they are within their rights to do this, as humans, I believe they should be ashamed of themselves, and I would encourage any future travelers to spend your money elsewhere. read more

The person I spoke with on the phone was extremely rude and condescending. I called to unfortunately cancel my reservation and let her know that I just cancelled through the booking site, but was double checking that cancellation came through on their end so I would not be charged the $161 stay fee. She responded that I needed to cancel through the booking site and not with her. I repeated myself that I did cancel with the booking site but wanted to make sure they received the cancellation. She tells me AGAIN that I needed to cancel with the booking site and that there was no need for the customer to even call them. It was as if she did not even hear what I said at all! As someone who frequently visits the Adirondack area, I genuinely believe the area is filled with well cared for and managed businesses. This is my first truly poor experience. Shame! To top it off, after I posted my review on their Facebook she responds WITH THE SAME REPETITIVE NONSENSE and blocks my ability to respond to her. All I want to know is if I get my money back because I was advertised free cancellation but the motel already charged me. read more

Stayed here for three nights at the end of July in one of the "upper lake view" rooms. Upon entering room, we found the comforter torn and lumpy. Appears to have not been replaced in many years and was definitely beyond its useful life. Also found one of the garbages to have not been emptied. The room also smelled faintly of smoke--either from neighbors or cleaning staff--despite having been designated a non-smoking room. On the third day, we found the room to have been cleaned but was left with the bed unmade. At check-out, we let the woman at reception know about the issues and she kindly discounted one of our nights and was apologetic. Though appreciated, the gesture isn't enough to make me feel like this motel is being well-managed. read more

Over-priced for a bare bones experience. We stayed in an upper view room, which oversaw a road before the beach. There were no cups in the room. For the price I would have expected an amenity like a hair dryer, but whatever. However, the walls were thin enough that I could hear my neighbor snoring all night long. This hotel is a nice location with standard rooms and that's about it. Upon booking my trip, (mind you we came all the way from San Diego, California), I booked a standard room which for a motel in off season was way too expensive but the location was just right. It asked if I had any requests which I thought was great! So my two request which are pretty standard-1. Early check-in and 2.lake view! Within seconds I get a phone call from the front desk woman. She proceeded to tell me that I did NOT book a lake view and would NOT be getting one unless I paid more. The difference ended up being a whopping $10 dollars so of course we went for it. From the start I knew she wasn't very nice. Upon arrival we get there around 1 and the place is empty! I nicely asked if rooms were ready since that was a request and she proceeded to yell at me while telling me it was fire week and how my request was absolutely not getting done. She then said come back later. So two strikes and still a sour taste in my mouth. Finally got on with our day and checked in later. Room was standard and there was a tip envelop for the maid which I thought was tacky. Never seen that before. Anyway checked out the next day but wanted to explore some more and she again said NO! In the parking lot there was our truck, a motorcycle, and one other corvette!!!!!! I was stunned. Moral of the story staff is so RUDE and un accommodating! I mean the place was nearly EMPTY. You mean ass people couldn't tack on a couple more hours so we could get breakfast? Not a bang for your buck type of room but great location. I truly Hope management reads this because your front desk women need some serious training sessions in customer service.
