After deciding against those other motels we popped into this one hoping for a room. My wife went into the office to see if they had a room available and luckily they did. When we checked out the room the first thing I noticed was a clean smell. Over the years when we have gone to these small motels one of the first thing's I notice is a musty smell but not here. The room smelled clean and was clean. When we signed in the owner asked us if we had any plans and we told him no. The owner gave us a number of ideas as to what we could do in the area and pointed us in there directions. The owner also pointed out that he offered coffee and tea in the office. We settled into our room and decided to walk into the business / tourist area which is about 1 km away. A very easy walk with lots to see on the way. As we were walking to the tourist area the motel the owner came over to us and let us know that he had 2 bicycles that the guests could use. They were new cruisers, a men's and a woman's. Our first and second night's the bed was comfortable the air conditioner wasn't too loud and keept the room cool. The shower was a stand up, no tub which I prefer in a motel or hotel. The shower had lots of room. The owner also offered a movie at night on an outdoor screen for the kids.

Initially, we had a little trouble getting a hold of them to make the reservation, but once we had that taken care of it was pretty much everything we could ask for. We arrived later on in the evening the first night, so we couldn't actually see much around the B&B and went to dinner. We came back, opened a bottle of wine, sat on the back porch, and stared at what was probably the most stars either of us had ever seen. Then we went to bed. When we woke up, we were not expecting what we saw - shrouded in a morning mist (sounds cheesey - but this is the real deal), the back of the place overlooked the Moose River, a calm portion that almost made up a small lake. It was really amazing, and as it cleared up we were just thrilled to have chosen the place. Access to free canoes and kayaks - which we took full advantage of. The landscaping and area leading down to the river was very nice, a great place to relax after a day of being a tourist or after some light kayaking. The river was very nice, meandering with houses here and there along the shore, perfect for a lazy canoe or kayak trip. Also lots of turtles, water birds, etc., I'd imagine the fishing would be pretty good too. They also have a sweet, sort of vintage tandem bike - good times. We went to have breakfast - a really nice continental - and the owners were really lovely. Super friendly and helpful re: getting around and finding things to do, Stuart and Jimmy were really great. They weren't obtrusive, but made sure we were well taken care of. The room was very nice, everything was sort of an Asian/Northwoods/Antique-y mixture that wasn't too gaudy but you still knew you were in a B&B. If you're planning on hitting upstate New York and you want to stay some place affordable (it was $79/night for 3 nights during the week - you can stay at a crappy hotel for that much or more), this is not to be missed. Friendly, beautiful, and really close to perfect to be totally honest - we were fully satisfied and talk about going back whenever it comes up.

I am so glad we stayed....the location is amazing, and the view from our room was breathtaking. We actually arrived after dark, so we didn't really have an idea of the surroundings when we fell asleep but the inn is just charming inside, so we knew we'd found a gem. The B&B is situated right on the Moose River, and we awoke after a restful evening to birdsong and a clear, lovely day. We stayed in the Farquharson room; it featured a private bath and a large, comfy bed. The picture window was an ideal foil to the morning mist that was just clearing from the Moose River, and once the drapes were drawn back we had a gorgeous, sweeping view of the river and the lush backyard. After getting ready for our day, we headed downstairs and were pleasantly surprised to find several small, cafe-style tables in the dining area. In most B&Bs that we've experienced, there is one large table that can make for a great or horrible experience over breakfast, simply depending upon your table mates. With the small tables, we could choose to talk with our neighbors or not, which is great for one who is not completely sociable prior to her first cup of coffee in the morning. Breakfast was delicious - we started with fresh fruit and yogurt, and then moved on to an amazing, golden-toasty-brown quiche and yummy potatoes. The rates are beyond reasonable and this inn is not to be missed - if you're in the Adirondacks (or just pining for a weekend away), you need to stay here!

The hotel is walking distance to the shopping areas in Old Forge and right across the street from Enchanted Forest. We had a first floor room. Our deck had not been swept. Wolf spider webs on the railings and spider webs all over the deck. I looked at other rooms and didn't see the same amount of dust and webs. The bathroom was extremely small and the fan was broken. The room itself gave off a damp feeling but was overall very clean. One pro is the breakfast. It's not logistically set up the best. Lots of crowding and inability to move around, it still gets the job done. Considering that most guests have little children with them, it was hard to move without bumping into someone. The short staffed running of the hotel was apparent there as well. Both mornings the waffle batter was out, plates and knives had not been restocked. Guests made the best of it. The pool and sauna are nice. The floor gets very slippery. We enjoyed sitting out on lawn furniture overlooking the lake. The parking lot gets full. While waiting for our room, we saw many waterpark guest park in the lot and walk over to the park. It's not well monitored for that. We left one morning to go hiking and found no parking spaces left upon our return. Many vehicles without a hotel tag. The staff are all very friendly and nice. I only had one bad experience. I went to the front desk where a mom and a young daughter were checking in and we were the only people in that area. I wanted to buy a razor. I was about 12' feet back and near the grocery/items desk. I heard the staff member say since this is your first time here and then they both turned, looked at me and began whispering. She had already gave room info so it wasn't like it was any personal info I would overhear. Two more staff members came out and went back to the main office and never asked if they could help me. I waited about 5 minutes and left. Not sure why they couldn't jump in and help at the grocery/items desk. Other than that experience all staff members have been amazing and helpful.

Unfortunately we had a terrible experience at Clark's Beach Motel and our recommendation is to…read moreavoid it. The rating of 1 1/2 stars speaks for itself and I should have known better. My husband had several bites (total of 20+ bites, see photos) appear a short while after each time he slept on our bed. I did not get bitten; however different individuals can experience different immune reactions after being bit. The owner, Garret, was very responsive in checking the mattress and we appreciated that. Garret's conclusion, however, was entirely unacceptable. He said there was no evidence of bedbugs in the mattress and my husband was likely bitten on a hike, etc. Newly hatched bed bug nymphs are tiny and can be nearly see-through, making them almost impossible to detect. And yes, nymphs bite humans! My husband is certain he was getting bit by something in the bed. He asked Garret if we can we can either 1. get a new mattress or 2. move to a different room (there were many vacant rooms available). Garret said no to both options. My husband asked why we couldn't get a new mattress (he claimed that the issue wasn't the mattress) and why we couldn't switch rooms (Garret would have had to pay an additional cleaning fee). My husband said we would be willing to pay the additional cleaning fee (Garret said no). We would have been more than happy to assist Garret and his team in exchanging the mattress. Garret said he would not accommodate us as we trashed the room. Yes, our belongings were strewn all over and we had accumulated garbage in one corner (there is no daily maid service at Clark's) but we never abused the room in any way. We have stayed in many hotels and motels, and in many air b n b's over the years; we have never, ever received a poor review. Attached are pictures of the state in which we left the room. At $180 per night (incidentally the mattresses were awful - when my 150 lb husband sat on the edge of ours, the corner sunk a foot downward), customers should expect more. Garrett's daughter Haley and his wife Heather were polite and very accommodating. Shame on you, Garret, for treating customers this way. Avoid Clark's Beach Motel. There are many other nice options in Old Forge, Eagle Bay, and Inlet.

When we asked what the soup of the day was, the response was "I don't know." Also, the waitress was unaware that appetizers, soups, and salads come before the meal. Not sure that the waitress is to blame, as it was her 4th day on the job. Perhaps fifth. She couldn't remember. Either way nobody seem to be around for her to ask and nobody seem to care about her. On to the food. The menu listed many items that weren't an available including their "famous"Thendara ribeye, the short ribs and grits, maybe the chicken? Hmm. So we got through dinner, and she asked if we like dessert. We asked, "what do you have for dessert?" And she said, ice cream and milkshakes. I think they had other stuff but she could only do ice cream. And what's super cool is that apparently their ice cream came in "colors". Normally it would be "flavors", but at this place it's colors -you can get blue, red or brown. We went for the red and the brown figuring it would be strawberry and chocolate. How to describe the chocolate ice cream. It was soft serve with chocolate lines throughout - however it was actually more like a bowl of soup with a teeny teeny dot of ice cream in the middle. We did ask if she'd mind getting a different bowl and she mentioned that it was the first one out of the softserve machine so maybe that's why it was soupy. So, to make a long review short. pass this one by the next time you're in Old Forge.
