Jim was a lifesaver! He was also friendly, polite - and fast. I hope I won't need a locksmith any time soon, but if I do, Jim will be my first phone call. read more

I am out of the State with family over the holidays; recent truck repair work prior to leaving Newport rendered one of my spare keys inoperable but I did not know it at the time. I contacted the automobile dealer and was quoted $175 to program the key. Then I called Old Capitol Lock Services; over the phone Jim walked me through how to program the key at no charge. The procedure worked like a charm! I am completely blown away and impressed with Jim's complete selflessness and customer service focus. I usually do not leave reviews but in this case I highly recommend Jim and Old Capitol Lock Services for any lock related need you may have. read more

I stopped by this place on a whim, after purchasing a new set of locks for my home from the hardware store. I needed them to get rekeyed and I walked in without an appointment (I should have called ahead of time). Regardless, the locksmith here was very courteous and friendly, and rekeyed all my locks and put them back in the packaging neatly and organized. The entire experience was hassle free. read more

Jim was super helpful for a unique project. I purchased some OEM luggage for a motorcycle, but needed to get it rekeyed to my motorcycle key. I was able to procure the parts needed and just needed the wafers set in an order that would work with my key so I could use a single key for the bike and the luggage. Jim had me in and out in less than a half an hour. I'm confident he can handle "normal" locksmith issues, but if you need other work, he proved he can handle that, too. read more

Wonderful man very helpful and easy to work with. I needed some odd things fixed and keyed and he totally helped.

I am so impressed! We have a 1981 VW Vanagon - only the drivers side door would lock and unlock. The passenger side door and the slider door locks would not operate. This had been a problem for us for a long time. We could not find anyone to fix them. We were going to have to try to dig in junk yards to replace them. Then we found Jim and he rebuilt both locks! He really is a craftsman. Now, they work great! We are so pleased. Thank you, Thank you Jim! read more

After having my gym bag with keys in it stolen I was happy to find the business for key replacements. My call was answered immediately after 2 rings and was able to make a next day appointment where as other places needed at least 3-4 days to order my truck key. I arrived at the shop early and Jim arrived on time. He began programming a new key for my truck and cut me new house keys from my spares. Jim explained all the different options and prices and helped me quite a bit learning about electronic keys. The new house keys he cut work better than my spares!! So amazing! I will always return for any locksmith needs or key cutting. Highly recommended! read more

I contacted this business looking to replace the locks for my office. (Yes I know it says Keys for my CAR) lol but I was hell bent on a local (Benicia) business and this was the only local vendor I could find. Anyhoo, even though Jim could not help me with this particular service he was kind enough to send me a list of trusted alternatives in surrounding areas...something he did not have to take the time out to do. Great customer service, and I will keep him in mind if I ever need a replacement Car or key lock. read more

I can't say enough about how wonderful this business is. I had just purchased a used vehicle that only had one key and fob. I contacted numerous locksmiths only to find out they did not have the necessary equipment to program the keys/fob. I called a local car dealership and fell out of my chair with the price they quoted. I thought how insane it is to charge that amount for a duplicate key and fob. While talking with a friend, he turned me on to Old Capitol Locks. I made an appointment. The owner, Jim, was so on top of his game. He had the extra keys and fobs programmed and in my hands in a short period of time. The cost was way more fair and reasonable than what the dealer was going to charge me. This was a triple treat for me - -fair and reasonable pricing, -professional and fast service, -clean and friendly environment. I STRONGLY encourage any one looking to have keys and fobs made for their vehicle(s) to visit this business. AVOID the dealers at all cost and go to a business that will do you right. Pass the word around. Tell your friends. read more

I had Jim come to Lafayette to re-flash the immobilizer and provide a new key for a Ford "PATS" system. He was one of the only shops in the area, other than the Ford dealer, that would even do it... and the ONLY one with mobile service. He was fast, efficient and very helpful. I thought the price was reasonable, especially considering he came to me. In the future, Jim will be my go-to guy for lock related work! read more

Last week I found OCLS on a local Google search, luckily in non-emergency mode. For a just-in-case scenario, I needed extra keys for my company's front door and box truck! I spoke with Jim who was very polite and asked me to come in at 10am on Monday. I didn't realize it was an appointment-only kind of place and was delayed getting there by 10am. After he left a message wondering if I was coming, I contacted him and he said he would wait for me. Very cool so I rushed right over. The shop was well stocked with many keys, some I had never even seen before! Jim quickly made my keys and I was on my way by 11am. I would recommended OCLS to anyone needing keys copied, in a hurry or otherwise. read more

Old Capital Lock Services is a mobile locksmith business specialized in automotive and light truck locks of all types. Jim Parrie, the principal, has built a full locksmith workshop and warehouse in a medium sized van that can respond quickly to customer calls. Many automobile dealers call on Jim for help in servicing all kinds of difficult lock problems. We had an ignition lock on a 1997 Ford Ranger that just quit working. Jim found that our old keys were worn out. So he looked up the lock on his onboard computer and estimated what the key may have been notch by notch. He found the answer in moments and an automatic key machine made new keys quickly. The keys operated all the locks on the old truck and the job was complete in minutes. I decided to replace the ignition lock anyway, but all the doors worked on the reproduced original key that Jim made. This service was completed with a pleasant attitude, at a fair cost, and with integrity. I would recommend Jim for field repair of vehicle locks when you cannot start the car or light truck. read more

We lost the electronic (and only) key to our Dodge Caliber. The dealer wanted us to tow the car to the dealership. Jim took care of us for about what the dealer would charge and we didn't have to deal with towing fee. Excellent work. read more

Jim is as reliable as they get. We have done business with him for 15 years or more. If he serves you once he will probably remember you and the job 10 years later. He also makes electronic car keys and remotes for us and beats the dealer price. read more

I lost my key to a late model dodge and called one of the "24" hr locksmith services to make a new one. The first guy that arrived could not make a new key saying that the "new version" computer was needed. He said that he knew another guy who would be able to do it. The original price he quoted which seemed a little high then skyrocketed to a price that was way too high. I called Jim at Old Capitol Locksmith and right off the bat I could tell the difference in professionalism. He quoted me a price right on the phone, which the other service would not do, and it was much lower than the original quote from the other service. He arrived and made the key and I was on the way. Excellent, excellent service and I highly recommend his company if you need locksmith services especially if it is for the type of car keys that has to be programmed. read more
