A friend and I stopped by yesterday on the way back from a day of hiking, and we bought a pie as a gift to bring to a party. The pie looked tasty, and the store looked like a typical country store. As we were checking out, the cashier asked about us, and we mentioned that we were professionals working in Las Cruces. She then commented that it was nice to have someone visiting from Las Cruces who wasn't on welfare. Um, excuse me? Who asked you for your opinion on the demographics of our city? Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, but we certainly did not ask her to share it. I hope our friends liked the pie, but I can't say the cashier's attitude made us feel welcome--or inclined to return, let alone recommend the store. read more

Old Apple Barn is a neat place. They have lots of souvenir-type trinkets, postcards, and the like but they also offer their brand of apple butter and other spreads. They also have a counter with a bunch of fudge so I got the dark chocolate and it was very good. My dad bought a puzzle and it ended up being the focal point for our family during our stay in Cloudcroft - so it's a good place to go if you're bored and need a game or something for the family! It's a cool store - if you're in the area it's definitely worth a stop in. read more

It's a super cute store heading into cloudcroft with a large variety of do hickies and oddities. They market their unique coffees, pies and fudge. My friend tried their coffee and thought it was only ok but the fudge was fantastic (dark chili late and peanut butter and chocolate in particular). For men at least they direct to their portapotty outside the store in front. But it's a very well kept portapotty so it's fine. Worth checking out with something for everyone. read more

Absolutely love visiting Apple Barn whenever I'm in New Mexico! The merchandise is all really fun and eye-catching, I almost always find myself unintentionally browsing while I wait to check out. I'm easily lured by sweets, so naturally I had to try their pecan caramel apples. The woman working behind the counter was very friendly and helpful, explaining to us the different kinds of fudge available as well as the drink options. They offered to cut the apples for us which we happily accepted. It's actually probably better to opt for cut apples being that they look rather difficult to eat whole! Overall the apples were delicious and definitely a sweet tooth fulfilled. I will absolutely be returning when possible!! read more

The elk was good they have a different ordering system so there is no waitress or waiter but a clean lodge looking place.

Their Jerky and Apple Pie is amazing!! I think I'm gonna go their right now for some jerky and apple butter. I highly recommend this place if you're anywhere within the vicinity or traveling through the area!! I hear really good things about the place next door they speak about inside the Old Apple Barn that has the hunters choice meat selection, I haven't tried it yet but when I do I'll make sure to comment on it read more

Great shop full of SO much! We enjoyed our purchases. I give it a 4 because the bathroom is an outhouse!!! Stinky!

Excellent country store, common items pricey, but wide range of 'country-style' and odd items you would have trouble finding anywhere else. Great and many fudges, hot dogs, cakes! We stop almost every time we pass them, even if just for looking around. read more

First off the FUDGE is from heaven ! The best ever! The root beer float was equally as amazing!! The sweet lady who owns and runs the shop was such a pleasure to visit with. The smell of fresh baked goodies that fills the air when u walk in is worth the drive alone ! read more

Please stop Bill, I left an Honest review, and it seems now that you are harassing me through Yelp. I am unsure where you are coming from stating that I had several boys. I have two not many. The family you have described is not us. Therefore you must have acted in a rude manner to someone else. Furthermore. I don't have family in Alamogordo or in the surrounding areas. I am asking that you please stop with this abuse. I will promise never to visit your store again. Poor customer service. They are rude and aren't kid friendly. Discrimination is what comes to mind as they followed us through the store and indicated we did not have money to pay for items. They in fact are over priced items. However we had heard great things about the Apple Barn, and realized when we got there it was a big mistake. As we left the place of course we met with other customers that told us they were over charged for their items and were returning the items. Other individuals with children also told us they had received the same treatment we had received. Now I am being harassed over my review. Attached is the message from face book that The Old Apple Barn Posted. I now know I am not alone in this matter. I have several children, however not several boys, therefore I know the message was not about our family. I do want readers to know I am not making it my mission to destroy Apple Barn, but I do want parents to beware especially if you are making a special trip to see this establishment with your children. A review is assist others in knowing where they mare welcome and where you want to visit. Yelp. Pleas help, please post my message so other parents may know... A request... We had a customer family last month who had several boys who were tossing around toys. We asked them to be gentle. The father came forward very defensively and I backed away and suggested the father could instruct them on how to act in a store. He did not like it and the family left. He and his wife have now made it their mission to try to destroy our reputation using yelp. We know that our permissive child policy on the rare occasion strikes families as dismissive but the big box stores have allowed some families to feel that any store is a baby sitter for their children. We simply ask that parents accompany their children and that the store is treated respectfully. This simple request results in approximately 6 families leaving in a huff a season out of tens of thousands of visitors. We have had many more customers thank us for providing a pleasant environment in which to enjoy themselves and shop in peace. For those of you who have been in our store and seen how we try to provide a fun experience... please review us on yelp. Set in a beautiful location, it is refreshing to walk in to the sights and smells. The ciders are awesome and love the mix-n-match candy bins. Locally made spreads, honeys and apple butters will make for excellent gifts. Great place to knock out early Christmas shopping or to stop by for a home-made slice of pie on the way to Cloudcroft or before heading back home. read more

We moved from NM due to military orders a little over a year ago and the Old Apple Barn is a joy that we really miss!! My family made 2 or 3 trips up the mountain every year just to buy taffy, fudge and apple butter! Our children, ages 4-9 during those 3 years we lived in Alamo, LOVED visiting and were always welcomed with a smile. We would spend over an hour looking around...always discovering new "treasures" on every visit! I like the wide variety of items they stock. The old-fashioned toys and Christmas items were my favorites. I appreciate the special way my son and daughter were treated. Their trinkets were put into little plastic bags and each were given their own bag containing their special purchases....usually jewelry...candy...fancy rocks, etc. Visiting The Old Apple Barn was a real treat for us and we hope to come back to visit one day! read more

Nice people, so many things to look at and lots of great gifties! You have to check it out.

I love this shop! My family and I were traveling through Cloudcroft and saw this place on the road. We stopped in because I saw the sign that said Fudge. Yum. It's delicious. And I loved the cherry cider. I wish I could order more online because I do not live anywhere nearby the Old Apple Barn. But alas, they cannot ship liquids. I'll just have to make another trip someday. The store has lots of different kinds of novelties and trinkets, and other bigger items like old fashioned toys. And the clerks there were very helpful and let me sample the fudge and cider before buying. If you're driving through the area, you must stop here and look around. :) read more

Fudge to die for and the best pies! Very eclectic and fun variety of items, There is something surprising around every corner. I ordered a gift certificate by phone for my sister and brother-in-law in Cloudcroft for Christmas. One of the places i absolutely had to go to when I visited last fall. read more

Disclaimer: This is not a restaurant review. Dropped in with the family for the first time while on our way to Cloudcroft. Very cool store with offbeat nick-nacks, jokey souvenirs, and a variety of home-made treats (such as fudge and spiced almonds). The kids enjoyed looking at the toys and novelty items. The young lady at the register was super friendly and had a great sense of humor. Also, don't miss the chance to take your picture in front of the giant apple-head man in front of the store. Definitely a one-of-a-kind photo-op. read more

My parents and I recently visited this place. It was a wonderful experience! Very friendly service and wonderful prices for wonderful products. We even ate the Elk dogs and tried the cherry cider! I was not disappointed at all! Its a beautiful place to eat outside and very cozy. I would recommend this place to everyone. I honestly can NOT imagine why this place would only have 3 stars when it deserves five. We felt at home and welcomed. read more

On a road trip through town. Stopped in for pie and ended up getting a root bear float, pie and iced apple cider. The root bear float was awesome. Loved it BUT we returned it because it had a big icky hair in it. They made us a new one. The frozen apple cider was a really unique and yummy treat. We all loved it and it would be even more amazing on a really hot day. The pie was average but then we're from a state that has all kinds of Apple pie. The store was a cute country type of store with lots of fun knick knacks. The porch on the front of the store was the perfect setting to enjoy the scenery and treats. Assuming they are dog friendly because no one complained about our little runt dog on the patio. The drive up from Alamogordo was breathtaking. If you're from out of town it is so worth the drive to see the scenery. Would have rated higher if we hadn't found hair. read more

Fun to wonder, they have lots of unique and even hard to find items for the kitchen and then some. Rather touristic though and pricy. Friendly staff, and the fudge would be on the top of my list for stopping by there. They have at least 10 different varieties on hand and if you're into chile, try the one with all the above for a fun kick! Samples are free! I definitely would recommend stopping by regardless of if it is touristic or not. read more

The family and I purchased some taffy, which the kids loved. We also split a Carmel, fudge, pecan apple, it was amazing. Other than the limited space, we loved it there and hope to return again. read more

Obviously the two people that gave bad reviews to the Old Apple Barn are married to each other and failed to teach their children how to behave in public. We love the Old Apple Barn!!! It is always a pleasure to drive up and have a friendly place to stop and grab some pie (which I though was a GREAT addition) and always some ice cream! There are enough low priced items that even my girls can buy a little knickknack with their allowance money! We have ornaments on our Christmas tree that came from the Old Apple Barn that are so special! Thank you for your hospitality to us and our three children. We will be up again really soon!!! read more

I have taken all 3 of my kids several times toThe Old Apple Barn and they LOVE IT! From the neat old school toys to the fudge. Every time we have out of town guests we take them there. I read through the reviews and ur seems like there is a couple with very negative things to say, I bet considering they have the same last name initial they are married. We were in the store the day your family was and you weren't followed around because they thought you would steal, you were being followed because you had VERY UN-ruly children throwing things around and you would do nothing to control them. You need to be honest about your review. read more

Shame on that father who did not have the you know what to discipline his children, If they act like that in a store, you know they have to behave badly at home, A child with no discipline is a lost child. Such a shame. This is a wonderful store, I so enjoy visiting. Bill and Janie are the sweetest people on earth. If you cannpot control your children, do not bring them to a place like this. God bless you Bill, you were 100% right. read more

This is a great place to visit while around Alamogordo and Cloudcroft. We have to make a couple trips a year to see what they have and never leave empty handed! The folks that work there are great and so friendly and happy to see you and ready to help you with anything you need. The old fashioned decor really is inviting. A must to try is the fudge and pies and sandwiched! Also the drinks they have are great! Don't let any negative comments about the Old Apple Barn deter you from visiting there. You must stop by and see it all for yourself. So happy to have a place like this around for us to shop at. read more

My family went to Ruidoso for vacation and was doing the day trip thing around the area. We saw a brochure for this place and thought this place looked good. We were looking forward to the "bakery and bistro" they advertised as well as the fresh food products like fruit, creme pies, fresh cider. Nada! The did have one apple pie, one pecan and a few individual slices, but other than that nothing that was made right there. Their jams and such were shipped in (we know because the lady in store told us she was waiting for another shipment and FedEx made a delivery while we were there). No cider at all. They said they no longer made cider as they didn't have the proper facilities or licenses. We drove all the way up the mountain for chochkeys you can get anywhere. No train running over head, no bistro, no hand dipped ice cream, sasparilla, floats or cooked food. We were very disappointed when we were unable to have lunch! read more
