In all my years of being raised (& born) in Northern NM, I had never been to White Sands until now…read more We parked at the visitor center as we were unsure where to purchase the entrance fee (there's a sign right outside the visitor center indicating so). We still stepped foot into the center as it serves as somewhat of a museum about the history of White Sands as well as a gift shop. At the station (upon driving in), if an attendant is not at the entrance you can scan a QR code and purchase the entry fee that way (25.00 per vehicle). From there, they said it was roughly a 16 mile drive RT; however, it seemed like we were just driving in circles but we spent a fair amount of time to see the white sands and get some good photo ops before saying we were ready to go lol. Definitely recommend as it looked like snow in the summer and you can also get down and experience the white sands yourself by sand boarding; however, it is a "bucket list" item and something I would not do again.
