Very rude individuals here. Customer service is non-existent, I reached out by phone, email and direct contact through their website to address my concerns with the owner(s). No response which is quite telling. Not only are they double the implant cost versus two other providers, but when I called to discuss I was met with pure nastiness for asking questions. I then cancel my appointment and I get a lecture from the individual answering the phones. I try to escalate to the proper people and mum is the word. The only positive to this place is the nice brunette who worked with pediatrics at the front desk and Wrenley, DDS assistant.* I was suggested to see Amy Okun (who I heard is great) but she was unavailable so I had Syskel* I called about two weeks ago to set up an appointment to add glue to one tooth. I've had my retainer for over 15 years and it is permanent to my bottom front teeth. I was just charged $88 for an exam where all he did was look in my mouth, nothing but flash a light and touch 5 teeth with an instrument, which took approximately 2-3 minutes. That's it. Outrageous. DDS Syskel from the moment he started leaning my chair backwards, I could already tell was going to charge me more by the way he was prepping me with his body language and his particular verbiage. Syskel's resolution to my one tooth with little residual glue reminent was that he would have to remove the excess glue and went into a whole process. He told me it would take hours. He then told me that the tooth would shift without the glue, which is why I was here. However, I felt like I was being shamed into doing it. When the dental assistant came back with the price I was shocked. I politely declined and walked with her to the front where I was charged the $88, out of pocket. Cool. Worthless appointment other than waste my gas, time and money. Could have gone to groceries, school or the nonprofit I volunteer for. I called Las Sendas Dental (off Power where I have been twice because I lived in the area when I first moved here. They were great) while I was waiting for DDS Syskel to write the prices up and Las Sendas told me it would be $90 to fix. I will be scheduling an appointment once I'm done writing this. That's with the removal of what could be left too. When I go home to Wisconsin every six months, I get my teeth cleaned. If the glue comes off (rarely but it has happened in the past), I wasn't not charged more than $100 without tax. After today and my awful experience with the dentist on Southern and Higley at Smile, I can say I have very little respect for dentists in Arizona. They try to overcharge you, guilt trip you and attempt to justify longer procedures that entail more work than actually necessary. Be careful who you let touch your mouth.. those are lifelong damages you have to live with. Makes me incredibly anxious. Quite disappointed. read more

Buyer beware!!!! Staff is either aloof or following orders. They failed to communicate that they were no longer an "in network" provider for our insurance. This equated to a significant increase in out of pocket cost for myself and family (when compared to an "in network" provider). If they suggest a crown, I implore you to find a second opinion. Their costs are significantly higher than insurance allowances. No complaints with dental care but this outfit just doesn't pass the smell test. Let me just start this off by saying I AM SO INCREDIBLY PICKY ABOUT DENTAL CARE (in part because I worked in dental education for 5 years)... I cannot rave about this practice and Dr Okun enough! I was referred to the practice by my oral surgeon to place a crown restoration on my implant. From the moment I called in to schedule, I experienced the loveliest and most helpful front office staff, thorough and knowledgeable assistants, they are all top notch. Which comes as no surprise because Dr Amy is friendly, professional, knowledgeable, has impeccable attention to detail and is a perfectionist! Her chair side manor is the right amount of recommendation, education and discussion. Just like her staff she talked through every detail of what was going to happen and as it was happening. She isn't pushy or salesy at all. I would absolutely see her again... So as a follow up/back story I just want to say that I was hesitant to see Dr Okun at first - but ONLY because it's a 50 minute drive for me - I'm obsessed with my hygienist and have been with her for 21 years, because she's amazing. But this practice rivals any GP office and her work is great. I haven't had any issues with my implant restoration and I'm actually considering making the change to her practice despite the distance because that's how great the practice is! I went into Okun Dentistry today for the first time for a cleaning and dental exam. From the start I was impressed by all the staff, they were kind and caring. The dental assistant explained step by step what she was going to do and then carefully followed through. The dentist was Jeff Styskal. He was very thorough. It turns out that I had an infection above one of my front teeth. He carefully explained the options and gave me his opinion about which one to do. I felt confident that his assessment was correct. I worked with Ellen, the manager, to find someone to do the work. She took care of all the details and explained the costs to me carefully. Beth is my dental hygienist & let me tell you, I have NEVER experienced a more amazing cleaning in my entire 26 years of life. Not only is Beth so incredibly personable & kind, I never knew that my teeth were suppose to feel so noticeably clean afterwards. It's been a month & they still feel amazing!! Due to terrible teeth genetics, I had to make an appointment to have a cavity filled. Dr. Irina did the fillings and Tore assisted her. They were both amazing! After an insincere "I'm sorry for how you felt," he quickly switched course and began mansplaining to me that even though I "got a second opinion that I liked," he was still right about my cavities (though he did backtrack to say only two of the five that he originally "found" actually needed to be filled). I have been going to this dentist since I moved to Tempe. I schedule my cleanings 6 months ahead and never have any issues. I have had a great experience over the years with the hygienists at this practice. One time, one of my molars started hurting unbelievably. I called Dr. Styskal and he was able to fit me in that afternoon and then get me connected and referred to an endodontist and a root canal that day. I am so glad he understood and was able to help me so I did not spend a whole night in pain. Afterwards, he fit me with a crown. They have a digital way of scanning and a machine to create the crown in the office that same day. I even got to watch it being made! It fit so well I don't even notice it as different from my other teeth. Dr. Styskal has also been so patient in working with my husband who lived his entire life overseas and hasn't had good dental care before. After treatments at a periodontist he recommended, he has my husband on a path to recovery. I especially appreciated that he took the time to map out a step-by-step plan with us over many, many months and was always careful to explain his choice of treatments, whether it was the needed recovery time or what kind of material was needed for a particular crown. He would take the time to listen to our concerns and show us film and pictures of the area he was working on so we could understand what he was doing. Recently both my husband an I got fitted for night guards. In the past, I have spent hundreds getting other ones made and stopped using them because they were uncomfortable and even tried the gel kind you make yourself on Amazon. After getting the night guard made, Dr Styskal spent a good amount of time adjusting it until it fit correctly. I have been using it and no pain or inflammation or discomfort after a night of wearing them! Yay! If only I could find a doctor who was as awesome as my dentist! read more

Hands down this the best dental practice my family or I have been to. Every member that I have met in this practice, even if they are new, give the appearance and feel that they are all part of the Okun Dentistry practice. This is a testament to Dr. Amy's leadership and what she expects from her staff. Everyone here treats you as if you are the most special person for them at that moment. No one rushes you or is rude to you. Dr. Styskal came to the phone on two occasions when I had pain and called the office. He took the time to read my case so he could understand what was causing the pain and prescribe the right medicine without my having to go into the office. I have recently had my first ever root canals. Dr. Molina is one of the most gentle endodontists who makes you feel as comfortable as possible while doing the ever-dreaded root canal procedure. She explains along as she does the procedure so you are not surprised or caught off-guard by any part of the procedure. She is constantly coaching the staff working with her teaching them and sharing her knowledge with them. Gina, Lori and Ellen at the front desk welcome you with a smile and each time you walk into or call the office they make you feel at ease. They know almost everyone who walks in and what they are getting treated for and treat everyone with kindness. It almost feels like they've taken the time to read your file before you get there so you don't get a cold welcome. But I really think they just know all the practice's patients. Every Dental Assistant and Dental Hygienist is soft-spoken, gentle and calming. Well, there's always gotta be that one nay-sayer... I've been meaning to leave a review for a while. I went to Okun Dentistry after seeing their glowing yelp reviews. My permanent retainer came off and I needed it cemented back on. I called to see if that was something they could help with (my ortho is in CA) and they said yes. Dr Okun fixed the retainer but did a really sloppy job. He used a TON of the cement stuff and it felt really bulky. I figured "ah well, orthodontics isn't his specialty. At least my teeth won't move." They charged 200 bucks for about ten minutes of time and a shoddy job, but oh well. Then I tried to put on my removable retainer. Uh-oh. It wasn't even close to going over the huge chunk of cement. I called and the receptionist said to come right back. Right away Dr Okun seemed ULTRA annoyed that I was back. He grudgingly looked at the retainers and said I didn't need both anyway. I told him that I trusted my orthodontist in CA and really, really didn't want my teeth to move and I'd like it fixed. He proceeded to tell me that he has NEVER heard of someone having both retainers and said it was weird that my orthodontists did that (I have spoken with several dentists and orthos since and they said that is absolutely not true). Once we established that I wanted the mess fixed, he set to work. He shaved off a smidgen of the cement, tried to CRAM the retainer in and said "how's that?" I said it still didn't fit (not even close). Then he said it would be easier to alter the retainer. I let him try, he sanded it down to make more room for the glue, tried to SHOVE the thing back in my mouth, and inquired. Still awful. He went to shave more of the retainer and I panicked since it was becoming all to clear that he wasn't good at this. I asked him to fix the cement instead. Repeat the shave-CRAM-ask thing about three more times with an ever more irritated dentist. I finally gave up and said I guessed it was okay and left (it wasnt, btw). I reached out to another dentist the next day who got me in the same day but ended up referring me to an ortho who, btw, charged only $45 to fix the hot mess in my mouth. Again, I hate to be "that person", but I had a horrible experience here. I'm partially upset by his lack of professionalism and attitude, the price, and crappy quality work, but I'm also upset that he tried to do something that he was CLEARLY not good at. I would have had so much more respect for him (and no bad story...) had he simply referred me to an ortho. read more

The last time I got a filling, it was a miserable experience and is the #1 reason I've been putting off visiting the dentist for the last three years. I went in for fillings this morning and arrived about 5 minutes late. Nobody seemed irritated at my tardiness, there was no rushing, and I still got out in an hour and a half - exactly as long as they said it would take. My comfort was priority. Dr. Amy & Kristen were super attentive to body language. They would feel my hand every so often to see if I was tense, gave me breaks to rest my jaw, gave me vaseline for my lips to prevent chapping, and complimentary happy gas was of course a plus. (All of this while watching Office Space? Win!) The really refreshing part is that one of my fillings was very deep and potentially in need of a root canal. While it looked ok today, Dr. Amy warned me it could progress a bit, even after being treated. If for any reason I have to get a root canal in the near future (within the year), she will only charge me whatever is in excess of the filling she did today. A dentist with a warranty? Awesome. Overall, this was probably as enjoyable as getting a filling can be. I am not dreading my next dental appointment at all. read more

Everybody acts really professional and they had me in within 5 minutes from arriving. Personable I happened to get Dr. Amy and Kristen and they both were was so personable and pleasant to deal with. Everybody in the office was nice and super approachable, easy to talk to and to ask questions to. Even humble enough to give my last dentist a compliment on his work (Strange, I know ;) Trustworthy I have good teeth, but I know that they could have sold me something by saying that they could have done this, or make a procedure for that - but they didn't. I recently had been going to a corporate office for my dentistry needs. However, after they started piling on the fillings and other treatments, I wanted to get a second opinion. My hygienist taught me the reasons behind what they look for during a cleaning, which no dentist office had ever done for me, and has changed the way I brush/floss. They took preventative treatment seriously, and explained to me that getting a mouth guard so I stop grinding my teeth was the best way to prevent cavities because they could see evidence of me doing it- I've asked my other dentists about this and they never took the time to explore it. They saved me money by being patient and telling me what would really improve my dental health. Really great experience. read more

So I never thought I'd be writing a 5-star review for a dentist...I mean who does that RIGHT?!?! Aren't I supposed to be loathing the thought of walking into a dentist office?! Ok...so maybe I still do, but at least now I know they're really good at what they do. Teeth cleaning went REALLY well, very pleased with the end result. ONLY dental assistant to EVER listen to me about the fact that if she tried to put the spacer (guessing on the name of that horrid thing as I'm not in the friggin detail field...give me a break peeps haha) into my month, that I would probably throw up all over the place.
