No lines at the beer station, dozens on tap!
Anthony K.

We went on a Friday night after reading that Saturday is the most crowded day of the Friday, Saturday and Sunday annual festival. Friday is indeed less crowded. In fact, we were able to go up to the beer and food ticket booth, with only one person in front of us. Then, the beer and food lines quickly served their offerings! And there was quite a variety. The only downside to the evening was the entry ticket booth. Getting in was such a slow process, with the ticket booth workers seemingly like sloths. It...was...a...slow...process that could have used much improvement. A four star rather than five star for this cumbersome hiccup.

Last weekend drove to Oktoberfest for OKTOBERFEST which is the first weekend celebration of every October. Below is the info from their website: OKTOBERFEST is a colorful, festive celebration of Fredericksburg, Texas' German heritage. OKTOBERFEST has become an annual tradition around the world. OKTOBERFEST is a community event of family entertainment featuring two stages and two tents with continuous oompah music, art & crafts, Children's fun area ~ Kinder Park, a German Bier Tent, and Oktoberfest Vineyard area, plus delicious food and drink ... all weekend long! And I felt it's not worth it at all. They charged $6 for admission. Who wants to pay to get in a garden to purchase OK beer and junk food. I don't drink, so I just watched people getting drunk there. And food is bad, all cheap state fair style of food. They will charge $5 for a sausage. I don't know how German sausage tastes like. But it tastes like HEB sausage to me. The only fun part is I learned how to dance "Chicken dance". That was funny.

Great selection of German beers. Lots of wine too.

We had a great time! It started off great by catching the shuttle to downtown from the fairgrounds. It only cost $3 for both ways. And it's worth not having the stress of parking downtown. No lines for The shuttle either, and no long waits for it to take off and return. It lets you off right in front. We got there at 11:00 on Saturday. But it opened at 10:00 am. Next year we will get there then. It wasn't too crowed at that time. But by the time we left it was getting packed. They had a great selection of beers. Craft, regular brands and a great selection of German beers that we really enjoyed. They also had wine and Bellinis. Great selection of Oktoberfest food. Potato pancakes, bratwurst and sausages with sauerkraut. Yummy. We got a German style pizza and it was really yummy. Can't wait to go next year.

We had a great time! The shuttle from the fairgrounds is only $3 and it takes all the hassle out of parking and getting out of town when you're ready to go. We got there at 11 and the crowds were small and we got to walk around and check out the whole place before the crowds got huge. Next year we'll try to get there when they open at 10, since it's really great with no crowd. They had a very large selection of beers, including some German beers I hadn't had before. Not a bad one in the bunch! For the most part, the domestic beers were $4 and the imports were $6. They also had wine, so how's that for being accommodating? The food was the usual Oktoberfest fare, but it was good and hot and greasy and just what we were wanting. The pizza was really good and a treat after so many fried things. Great music, good food and drink and the people were friendly and everyone was having a good time. Have to make this an annual event on our calendar.

What's not to like about an Oktoberfest. Entry fee is $8.00 per person, which isn't too bad, I have paid much more. The price for beer is either $5.00 for middle of the road beers and $7.00 for German beers, which seems a little high, especially since you get them in a little plastic cup. Music, food and atmosphere are fantastic. We try to go here every year and if not in the area we go to the closest one to where we happen to be.

To enjoy Oktoberfest without the lines and extremely packed conditions come on Friday or when they first open on Saturday. I wish we would have come on Friday, but glad we went early Saturday. There were lines early, but not as bad as when we left later in the afternoon. Take cash to purchase tickets. If you don't mind walking, we found plenty of parking near the Safeway. The food was actually good. They use local vendor Opa's Smoked Meats for the sausage. For a festival the best sauerkraut and sausage I have had. There are different beers available amongst the different tents laid out. I liked that they also had cider options. They had some nice local arts and crafts vendors to explore while you were sipping on your drink. Everyone is so friendly that if you cannot find a table, we had someone make room with their group for my friend and I to sit. The German music and festivities all adds to the fun atmosphere. Just be prepared for crowds, being patient to wait in some lines, and have a great day. It is best on Friday though if you don't like overwhelming crowds of people.

I LOVE CHRISTMAS! I was so excited when we drove by this store. I made my husband make a special…read moretrip before we left town so I could check it out. I can't say it's a bad store in any way it was just more of a let down. I'm used to Christmas stores being over the top and packed full of cheer. This place just felt sterile and empty. There was nothing unique and not much to look at inventory wise. It felt like they were trying to be too sophisticated but instead it just sort of took the joy out of what you expect to find in a CHRISTMAS SHOP! We want tinsel and Holly and twinkles, this store doesn't have much but blown glass and a few Santa statues that you wouldn't want your kids to play around. Even those are sparse on the shelves. Not much to it so the result was disappointing.

I walked from room to room and at one point I felt lost and didn't know my way out LOL. I eventually got back to the front of the store, but it was a long journey around. Tons of neat stuff in every room. I was looking for a mug for my dear friend's birthday... I found it... a mug for cat lovers! It was perfect. Staff was okay. Price was decent. Some rooms in this store look a bit dated. By the way, it's not just a Christmas store... they sell a lot of other non-Christmas stuff, too. It's more like a year-round store IMHO. Do check them out and pick up some souvenirs for your family and friends. Happy Shopping!

They had live music playing from a traveling guy out of Vegas (can't remember his name, but it was two guys' first names)--it was such a nice touch for a weekend lunch. I'm extremely picky, but the fajita steak quesadilla was soooooo good. I paired it with the fries, and they were "the good kind"--perfectly crisp and super tasty, hot and fresh. I also really appreciated that they served my Coke in a can with a separate glass of ice and a straw. It's a small detail, but I love being able to drink a cold can with a straw. The rest of the group seemed to love their food too. My fiancé got the fish tacos and they looked great, as did the Reuben sandwich my MIL got. Highlights: The Service: Our server was a rockstar. Even though the place was slammed, she were super fast and every single order was 100% accurate. The Fries: Seriously, don't skip them. The only real lowlight: There is only one bathroom, so the line can get lonnnnnnng. Definitely don't wait until it's an emergency to head that way. Other than the bathroom situation, it's a great spot for a group hang with solid food.

But they said we could go in the bar and wait and as we did a table opened up that we all fit on which was awesome! The bar area was just like you'd expect to see in Texas. Cowboy hats, wooden floors to dance on. The music they were playing was a mix of old school 90s and 2000s which I appreciated! We ordered our food which took about 50 min to come out! Thankfully we were all enjoying the vibe that it distracted us from how long we had to wait. Even for a 9 top on a Saturday night, almost an hour seems still too long. I asked if they could take the batter off my chicken fried steak but they told me no that's essentially a steak and I'd have to pay full price for a steak which was upwards of over $50. Which was silly to me. My stomach doesn't do well with a lot of fried but the mashed potatoes and homemade gravy for the fried steak and veggies that came with the chicken fried steak sounded good so I wanted that versus a regular steak. And after I ate it I instantly regretted it about 30 min later bc although it was yummy at the time, boy did it do a number on my tummy. Just heavy. So wish they'd made that accommodation for me instead of trying to nickel and dime me. But the live music and dancing that followed helped me take my mind off it (and the sweet bartender who gave me warm lemon water for my stomach). The band was awesome and they played top 40 hits. The crowd was friendly and had a great night singing and dancing celebrating my sweet friends birthday. Such a great atmosphere and would love to bring people there and do it again. Maybe next time, I'll just order chicken ;)

First course was crab lobster cakes. They looked over cooked but tasted pretty good. Next I had the French onion soup. It smelled of burnt cheese when they put it in front of me. But once I got passed that, the souo was good. Hubby enjoyed his cesar salad. I ordered surf and turf with risoto and broccolini. The bacon wrapped shrimp was also very charred and steak was very very salty. It was however cooked to order. If you like a lot of salt then you may like it. The risoto and broccolini were good. Hubbys rib eye was rare (mooing) just like he likes it. He enjoyed the seasonal vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. Desert is made to order so it took about 30 minutes after order to get it. But it was worth it! The wild blueberry pie was the best part of the meal. It was a large handpie stuffed with these flavorful wild blueberries and ice cream on the side. We were full but managed to eat the whole thing! 8'oclock is when the music starts in the saloon. If you want a nice quiet romantic dinner then definitely go before 8. The music was very loud. In the saloon it was way too loud so we didn't stay for the band.
