Truly my worst food experience on Oahu. I ordered the garlic butter ribeye plate and a "fresh squeezed" pineapple lemonade. It didn't bother me that it took 15 minutes for only my lemonade to be ready. It didn't bother me that I saw 5 groups of people order and receive their full orders while I waited within earshot for another 15 minutes. It didn't bother me that the cook turned his back to me when I came over to the window to check on my order or that the cashier very obviously finally remembered I'd ordered food and put the steak on the grill. What did bother me was how flavorless the whole meal was. The rice was gummy and dry and the steak was not seasoned at all. There was no butter whatsoever, there were pieces of dried minced garlic but still no garlic flavor. It was almost incredible how they managed to keep the steak devoid of flavor. The general horrible attitude of the two workers I interacted with made the whole scenario seem intentional but there's no way to know for sure. read more

We ordered the garlic butter steak platter, a hot dog, and Kalua pork. The steak platter was so good we went back and ordered another one. Perfectly cooked at medium rare and packed with plenty of garlic. The pork was slowly cooked just right. The Hawaiian sea salt and smokiness added plenty of flavor. You get a nice side salad and rice with furikake. Prices are reasonable, but do expect a little wait here. Its best to order here and walk around to some of the other trucks to sample their food or grab a table. read more

The only mix in right now is boba which is an extra $.50. I asked the cashier what her favorite tea was, she replied the moon tea which is a white tea. I couldn't decide so I got her recommendation, adding boba. The tea was very refreshing and the boba plentiful. I appreciated that it comes unsweetened unless you request it to be more sugary. If you're from California, you've probably had better milk tea. Moon milk tea with medium sweetness (about 50% sweet) was super watery and didn't taste like tea. We didn't come specifically for Okina Cafe, the BF wanted the famous Giovani's Shrimp Truck but I'm not a fan of seafood, Okina Cafe looked really good and was one of the only trucks in this little lot that had food other than just seafood. At first the line was non-existent but once my BF got about 20 people from the front of his line Okina Cafe had about ten people in line, still not a ton of people but more than zero. Even though the line was pretty long compared to when we got there, it moved pretty quickly. I got the Bucket-A-Bacon burger and it didn't disappoint! The burger was huge! Two patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, ketchup and mustard. This was definitely a two-handed burger and even with my BF's help I wasn't able to finish it completely. I opted to grab a drink at another truck as they were the only place with seating at the moment. I'll definitely try a smoothie the next time as everything on the menu sounded really good. The only issue I had was quite a few people that ordered after me got their food before I got mine, I had to ask for mine and it was all of the sudden ready. The staff was nice and apologized for the delay. I would definitely recommend you give Okina Cafe a shot, I know I'll try it again! read more

I took a drive out to Haleiwa because let's face it, being in quarantine is a bit like being in prison (not that I know what being in prison is like). With all restaurants, beaches, parks, gyms, and most venues closed, it's a bit boring to stay at home all day. My son and I very much enjoyed the drive out there, the traffic was light and not crazy bumper to bumper traffic as usual. I enjoy going out to the shrimp truck, but my son hates shrimp, so..... luckily there are other alternatives besides the shrimp truck. We were very surprised to see only 5 cars in this always crowded parking lot. I was the only person in the line at the shrimp truck, and my son was the only person in line at Okina Cafe, which is located to the left of the shrimp truck. Okina Cafe is a truck that offers Mexican dishes as well as sandwiches. My son ordered chicken tacos, which came with rice and choice of beans or salad. The tacos were soft flour tortillas filled with lots of shredded chicken, onions, cheese, and salsa. He enjoyed them very much. A lot of the other trucks were closed, and as I talked to some of the workers there, they said that very few people came by and they were really hurting for business. If you can, please take a drive down to Haleiwa and support the local businesses. I'd be so sad to see businesses closed forever because people won't venture out of their homes. Wear a mask, use hand sanitizer, and stay away from other people, but please support our local businesses and economy. read more

Found this place on restaurant.com and decided to use a $10 off $20 coupon. It really is a great deal. This place is located with the rest of the food trucks in Haleiwa. The service here was very friendly and the food was ready in a few minutes. We ordered two acai bowls $10 each and two shoyu poke bowls $13 each. The portion of the acai bowl was huge and a bit tart but delicious on a hot Hawaii day. To me the poke bowl was a bit manini for $13 but it had great flavor and was fresh. I wish they use sushi rice though because the hot rice cooked the poke making it hard and warm. Our plan was to take these to go and eat it at the beach but this is not something that I would try again. They don't have take out containers so it is impossible to put this in a cooler. If I do come here again it will definitely be eaten there. P.S. As everyone is well aware, parking sucks. read more

I absolutely love this place! They have an amazing Samoan coconut drink. But I went today and it says they open at 10:30 am but when I went at 10:35 am the girl said they aren't open. Steak tacos were just ok. Hard to swallow the $17 price for tacos I can make at home. But this place and all the other trucks are crazy busy and the wait for most other foods was 30+ min, so I went for the tacos. Just standard American tacos - lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese. Okina Café wasn't quite what I was expecting. Granted, I knew beforehand that it was a milk tea place and they also serve poke bowls. What I didn't figure was "creamy smoothies" were a sweeter version of the milk tea ... like drinks with the same milk tea (more watery) consistency. When I saw the word "smoothie," I was thinking of a traditional smoothie -- hearty, thick and creamy. We were waiting for our Giovanni's lunch order and, since I was thirsty, I wandered over to the Okina truck. There were lots of drinks to choose from and I had a hard time making a decision. The guy working in the truck was helpful in giving recommendations, and I finally went to "Butter Nutter." Don't forget to check in on Yelp ... you'll get a 10 percent discount (at least, that was the promo during the time of my visit). I was thirsty and this quenched my parched throat for the time being, but I guess I was slightly disappointed because I was expecting an actual smoothie (thick, creamy and laden with peanut butter). Next time, though, I know what to expect and there are other flavors I would definitely want to try from here. It's the only place in this Haleiwa food truck area selling drinks/dessert items (with the exception of the shave ice place) so I recommend checking them out if you want milk tea/boba. Here's what I got: "Butter Nutter": I love peanut butter, so naturally, I wanted to try this "smoothie." It featured peanut butter, soy milk, bananas and dark chocolate. Automatically, this drink option got a two thumbs up from me because it has soy ... I wouldn't have to worry about an upset stomach. The drink was refreshing and sure to please if you want something sweet (and it was a good thing to cap off my lunch, since I ordered one of the garlic shrimp plates). It just was more liquidy than I expected it to be, in terms of consistency; not as thick, as a traditional banana smoothie would be. I tasted more bananas than anything else, though the peanut butter was subtly in there, and I caught a hint of the dark chocolate drizzle. This is a great option if you want a banana-flavored milk tea drink. "Cookies": This was the other smoothie flavor I was thinking of getting, simply because it was cookies and cream. I do love an OREO-inspired milk tea, so I would be down to try this next time. "Ahi Poke Bowl": I was intrigued that this truck sold poke bowls, and from what I've seen of their photos, these poke bowls look delicious. They consist of bite-sized pieces of ahi tuna mixed into a signature sauce and served on top of fluffy jasmine rice. I do love jasmine rice because of its consistency, so I would love to try this one day ... if the other food trucks look too busy, I would happily remember this option. Plus, I'm interested in trying this signature sauce. Blended Frappes: There are multiple frappe options that sounded good to me, but since it was already mid-afternoon, I didn't want any sort of coffee in my drink to keep me awake later in the evening. But, if I ever did get a frappe from here, it would be the "Kona Mocha," "Peanut Nuttery" (peanut butter and hazelnut), "Creamy Caramel" (it has butterscotch) or "Chunk-a-Brownie" (made with real chewy brownie pieces). I'm not sure which one I would even try first because they all sound so delicious. Since I love chewy brownies, I would probably opt for the "Chunk-a-Brownie" or "Peanut Nuttery" (I love Nutella and anything to do with peanut butter). These are great options if you need a burst of something sweet ... and you can even add a double shot of espresso if you need to. read more

This place was super good for drinks and acai bowl. They were also super accommodating because they only had one type of acai bowl and I'm allergic to bananas. They made me a friend acai bowl with no bananas in the blend and removed the banana toppings and gave me extra blueberries and strawberries. I ordered a jasmine tea for my friend and it was fresh and yummy. This was a great balance after eating tons of fried shrimp from the other shrimp trucks in the park. read more

There are also acai bowl, and ahi poke bowls. I decided to order the blueberry soy milk tea with honey boba $4.15. The taste is really special. The tea is mixed with blueberry, kinda like a refresher taste. The boba is chewy, it's soaked in honey. I didn't add sugar, so its not too sweet. The drinks are sorta pricey but it's organic that's why. There's only one size and it's a large size. Don't forget to check in on yelp to get 10% off!!! read more

I'll be honest, the reason we picked this food cart was because it was the only one that didn't have an enormous line to order. Boy were we lucky. I don't know why this food cart wasn't that busiest! Had the plantation tea with boba... the tea alone was great, but the boba was blah. The boba had no chew and obtained a mushy exterior the longer they sat in the tea. Also ordered a lemonade tea with medium level sweetness, but it was too sweet. I would recommend no boba and lowest level sweetener. Okina Cafe I adore you. My boyfriend and I stumbled across this tiny little cafe on a drive around the island. I saw "Fresh Poke Bowl" written on the board and it was love at first sight. Andrew saw "Peanut Butter and Chocolate" in the same sentence under the drink menu and forgot I existed. We inhaled our items in under five minutes! They were amazing! The poke was so fresh and the shoyu sauce was perfect with the ahi and the fresh wonton strips and maui onions that topped the bowl. The Nutter Butter drink Andrew had was basically a milkshake with soy....so it's pretty much a health smoothie right? Ha! Regardless of the lack of health benefits it had it was amazing and so tasty! We loved our items so much that we ordered an Acai Bowl as well after we finished. What a great decision! While they were out of strawberries they offered to add pineapple instead which I actually thought was even better! One of the best Acai Bowls I've had anywhere.
