We were looking for something short-term, sort of straight to the point. We were willing to of course work on ourselves as long as needed but we are also more action-oriented people and wanted someone who would be a sounding board and then suggest some paths we could take as a couple. Baya was recommended by friends of the family for couples work. She was really relaxed and responded with empathy but also a lot of tools which is what we were really looking for. She worked with us in response to our own goals as a couple, and didn't push her ideas on us, but more so recommended things we could try. We got what we needed and moved forward. We ended up moving out of San Diego, but if we still lived there, she's someone we would see again for a counseling refresher of sorts if needed.

My wife and I hired Kate Eldean, MA, MFT, (see staff at Healthy Within Inc) for couples/marriage…read morecounseling. After many months of meeting with Kate, it was apparent she was in over her head. I was also advised by other counseling professionals that Kate was not competent to counsel marrieds. That insight came too late. After spending thousands of dollars on Kate's services, she abruptly ended the counseling relationship without explanation. I can only speculate why, and I'm choosing not to do that in this forum. What I wish to share here are two things. First, Kate broke confidentiality without grounds and it is ultimately contributing to my divorce. I contacted Kate directly, and through third parties, to confront the breach of confidentiality, but she refused to speak about it. It's interesting that she apparently speaks to others about confronting problems in their life(s), but then, when she is presented with a problem of her own, she was completely unequipped. Second and final thought, choose your marriage counseling wisely. Do not ask your marriage counselor if they believe they are capable. Kate was motivated by greed and billable hours and I trusted her. That said, I understand how desperate/starving counselors don't want to turn away business. Get references and ask their associates if they would recommend a loved one. I use to at least thing Kate could be a good women's counselor, but I have a hard time coming to that conclusion anymore with the breach of confidentiality and her seemingly inability to deal with conflict. After attempting to simply speak with Kate for over 2 months, I decided to write this review to warn others. http://kateeldean.com/
