One of the most over roasted cups of coffee I've had in my life. I ordered a pourover (which the barista was surly about because she was busy--there were very few customers). Ethiopian beans should be fruity and light. Either the roaster has no idea what they are doing or they fell asleep for a five hour nap while roasting these beans. The ambiance and adjacent store were cool. That's the only reason I'd give it two stars. read more

I was staying at a hotel right across the street, but it was only a halfway past my stay when I realized Ohori's Coffee was there. Their sign is small, but the logo caught my eyes... it's a school house crest of my kindergarten back in Japan! I had Ohori's amazing latte every day until I left Santa Fe. Also went to the other location, and the gift shop too. Their coffee is aromatic, deep, and enjoyable. The staff is very nice, attentive and with lots of positive vibe, and the bakery items are also very fresh and tasty. They've been in business over 40 years in Santa Fe. There's a reason. I would give this place a 3.5. It was very clean, staff was friendly, and you were able to buy from local artists in store which was cool. It is more of a dark roast coffee shop which my husband prefers lighter roasts so not his favorite. It went down for me because my turmeric latte was pretty lack luster. read more

Ohori's is pretty much hit or miss lately. More misses at the St. Francis location than the other one. Coffee is often very weak compared to some of the competition in Santa Fe. This does have to do with the person doing the pulling though, because there are times when then order is perfect. Having said that, there are a couple people working at this location who probably aren't even coffee drinkers and the quality of the coffee here kind of shows that reality. I was excited when I read the description of the organic drip. I ordered a small and my husband a medium. I'm so sad to report that the coffee is so so so bitter (yes 3 so's). It's completely burnt. I literally went to the restroom to dump my coffee down the drain. Now with that being said, the chai latte with coconut milk is delicious, the matcha lattes with oat milk are also delicious. I ordered a vanilla latte after I dumped my drip and it was also really good but as the drink cooled down I could taste the bitterness of the espresso. I ended up dumping it with about 1/3 left. There is no where to sit which is a bummer. I really would love to see these roasters improve their skill. I think everything else works here but you're a coffee shop, if you can't get the beans right, I can't see your place having longevity. read more

Today was the third time I've waited over 10 minutes to be helped, yet there were 5, count them 5 employees behind the counter, and 1 person ahead of us. One customer just left after waiting too long. The staff is not friendly and appear disinterested in the job they do. I like their coffee a great deal, and will give my business to the other location closer to downtown where the staff is attentive and very friendly. We were really disappointed with this shop. I hate to give anyone a bad review, but these guys can do so much better. They have a killer location (right in the center of town, and on the bike path), and a cool hippy local vibe. They roast their own beans, and have nice locally sourced baked goods. I'm not a coffee expert, but it seems like they are stuck in coffee wave 2.10. A little better than Charbucks, but just barely. Their beans seem over-roasted / burnt for my taste. They still steam huge pitchers of milk for multiple drinks, instead of each drink getting a dedicated batch. So only one of our drinks (of three) had any foam at all. There was also a big blob of chocolate syrup at the bottom of a mocha. Please take 15 seconds to mix. And I hate to keep going, but all 3 drinks were scalding hot. We could not handle them for longer than 15 seconds (in paper). We kept having to stop and reconfigure on the way to the car because our hands were burning. Perhaps the milk was scorched, which may have added to the bitter burnt taste? Not sure. Two of us had vanilla lattes, and we both threw them away after a couple of swallows. One of us drank 2/3 of their mocha. We were here three years ago and nothing has changed. There are better coffee shops in Santa Fe now, so we thought Ohori's would have improved / evolved, but they haven't. read more

Santa Fe is blessed with a lot of great coffee shops and they all have different attributes that make them good: variety of drinks, quality of baristas, ambiance, food, seating, service, etc. All that said, Ohori's is the best --coffee-- in town. I like the fuller flavor of their darker roast levels, but they also stop well short of the starbucks "nuke it until it bleeds" roast. Food items are limited and there isn't a lot of seating, but when I want good coffee, period, this is where I go. I also buy my coffee for use at home from these folks, except when I order online from Peet's. I stopped in after reading a few reviews of where to get coffee in SF, and I almost turned away after entering and noticing the very second-wave vibe and the smell of burnt, over-roasted beans (the "Starbucks smell"). The drink prices were favorable and I needed caffeine, so I decided to stick it out. The barista was a little inattentive (didn't even acknowledge me standing there for a good full minute, even though she wasn't apparently helping anyone else), and I was a bit turned off to find that the prices were only for a single shot (one shot in a 12-oz latte is not even close to the proper ratio), so it ended up being over $4 by the time I added the necessary second shot. The resulting drink was actually not bitter and quite drinkable and even featured some modest latte art, though I could still detect a subtle astringent taste of over-roasted beans. I really enjoyed Ohori's, and I'm glad that I finally found a place in New Mexico that seems to actually be able to good, rather than mediocre, coffee. (As a caveat, I haven't been to Iconik yet, which has received good reviews.) Ohori's has a good selection of organic fair trade coffee of various roasts. I tried two medium roasts (organic Peru and organic Ethiopia) as pour-overs, which were good. I also bought 1/2 a pound of the East Timor, which has a nice bold flavor and really is buttery like the description says. It's also encouraging that Ohori's actually offers different grinds depending on the type of coffeemaker you have. I have yet to try either of the espresso blends that they serve, but that'll be for the next time I go. Stay tuned. The store has a cute atmosphere and good selection of coffee and tea apparatus, and it's good to know that I can get some filters in a pinch. I also like the selection of quirky postcards, the fact that all the people working there seemed to enjoy their jobs, and the variety of music. One of the only things is that I wish that this location had an atmosphere that encouraged more lounging. I guess it's not a big deal, since it seemed like a majority of the business was for walk-in/walk-out people and the drive-through, but I'd like it even better if it were a more comfortable place to hang out (more comfortable tables, Wifi), but that's probably something that people go to the other location for. Even though I know that it would add to the cleaning and maintenance, I would really appreciate real ceramics and glassware for for-here orders; it just adds to the enjoyment of drinking coffee or tea for me. read more

We went to Ohori's yesterday morning for some coffee and baked goods. The space is a bit dingy and there's not much seating (especially taking into account the eclectic clientele who enjoy coming in to charge a cellphone). We got a cafe au lait and an iced coffee, and both were excellent. The blueberry muffin was pretty gross, and even though the slab of banana bread was generous, it wasn't much better. The woman who was working was pleasant and friendly. We want to love this place since they've been roasting in Santa Fe for so long, but...meh. There are much better places around town, so not sure if we'll be back again the next time that we're visiting. read more

This place looks like a repackaged Starbucks. Coffee is okay and they offer some organic wrapped food but it feels like they're just trying sell the trend. The staff at the front desk were TERRIBLE. The 3 guys behind the counter were completely in their own world making jokes that didn't make any sense. The guy who took my order was completely RUDE and didn't even say anything to make up for it when it was obvious I wasn't down for his attitude. Made the vibe there SO unwelcoming. So why bother getting your coffee here when there are plenty of better options in Santa Fe? I really wanted to love Ohori's - small, local, craft roaster, offering a variety of high quality beans, freshly roasted. Sounds perfect. Unfortunately, they only play one note when it comes to roast - very dark. And while I enjoy a dark roast, I also enjoy all the other notes of the fabulous bean, and beans that are best at a medium or light roast. I still use their drive through when I want to pick up a quick cup (they are still better than Starbucks, and I prefer to patronize local businesses), but I buy my beans at the roaster in Whole Food because I can get a variety of roasts of quality beans there. If Ohori's would only offer just a few medium and light roasts they would be perfect, and I would buy my beans there in addition to giving them my occasional drive through business. I love coffee shops and this is the ultimate destination coffee vacation. Important to note: I was here in Santa Fe for only a short trip, with two small kids in tow. While the staff were very nice and helpful, I would say this is not a place to sit and relax with your children. Lots of cool, original items to buy but all breakable.
