Every dog park has its occasional assortment of kooky dog people who clearly get along better with dogs than people, but almost all my experiences here have been positive. Nice folks who are friendly and chatty, or sit quietly or just talk to their dog as if we all want to hear their conversation. My husband's had a few interactions with someone who he avoids at all costs, but that's for his review! The actual park itself is a great layout with big and small dog sections (but they mostly mix it up together). There are benches and tables for sitting, plenty of bark chips to keep the mud at a minimum (one of my favorite features), double-gate entry on two sides, doggy-drinking water, poop bags and trash cans, and space for the dogs to run, play, sniff and spread out. Hours are daytime (daylight) only, and it's street parking.

This dog park is located in a pleasant little greenbelt in Berkeley. It can be very difficult to find parking nearby as it is a busy area, so you may have to walk a ways to use the dog park, but I think it's worth it. There are always lots of dogs, which is nice because it means more for my pup to play with. However, there are only a few benches/tables to sit at, so most of the owners end up standing or (goodness knows why) sitting on the ground. Most owners seem to pay attention to their pups and most seem to clean up after them as well. Some seem to think the off-leash rule applies to the whole park and not the fenced area, so do be careful as I have encountered multiple unleashed dogs. The fenced area has a mixture of some grass and some dirt areas. Like most dog parks, the "big dog" area is disproportionately larger so the area feels quite small for all of the dogs inside. Still, my pup has a good time here and I will keep using this space when I am in the area.

My dog is a 4 month old puppy 40 pounds and two dog owners were not grabbing their their dogs when they antagonized and attacked my dog. One is a silver/gray French bull dog that should not have been in the larger dog park period. It would not stop barking and biting at my dog no matter what he did (running away& running under tables) and the other was a 4 year old larger Akita who bit my dog until he screamed on his back leg. Only then did they finally get their dogs off of my dog. The two dog owners took no ownership or responsibility for their actions after the incident and when I told one of the owners that his akita bit my dog he said " I grabbed him before that could have happened" ...such BS. I will not be coming here again thanks to these two idiots.

This is a great place to bring your dogs. It is separated into two sections: small dogs (30lbs or less) and all dogs. I frequent both sections, but spend a majority of my time in the small dog park with my puppy. There are a lot of great dogs and owners willing to talk about various dog related topics and the small community is building each month. I would highly recommend this park. Note: The small dog section has acorns that may cause some digestive issues. Please be aware of your dog and what they are putting in their mouths.

Ohlone Park East, the perfect graduation party site!

Yes, I have dogs. No, this is not a review of Ohlone Park East as a dog park. It's a review of OPE as a great place for kids, picnics, jungle gym climbing, and just general lounging about of a Sunday. Folks, this is really a People Park. (Not to be confused with the People's Park, which is a very different place and phenomenon.) First the history: Ohlone Park East was created on a swath of turf which was dug along Hearst street to create a tunnel for BART. Sweet little houses along Hearst were either moved or razed from the site...but in the end, the long thin parkway known as Ohlone emerged. BART moves quietly beneath the surface. Quietly and ecologically efficient. This is know. I was there. Visited friends who lived in a carriage house exactly where Ohlone Park East stands today. SO... when I was invited to a high school graduation party to take place on a Sunday afternoon, I had to go. The honoree was my favorite great-nephew. And the site of the party was, yep, at the same spot where I had visited his great-grandmother's home in 1965. KARMA is alive and well in Berkeley,CA. Good karma, that is! The party was on a beautiful, bright day. (It had rained two days before, so the air was amazingly clean.) Friends, relatives and teachers milled about on the green grass. A group of children could be heard singing under a nearby tree. (It sounded like Filipino folk songs, but who knows?) Two menus were provided as some of us were vegan, but some were not. Two types of cake were served...everything was consumed in a twinkle . My nephew (who is Deaf) and his two friends vigorously conversed. Probably ASL, although you could put it by me. Could have been SEE. They were happy older teens, chatting away on this sunny Berkeley afternoon. DIscussing what college to go to next. And (for I have an active imagination) I believe that somewhere out there, a band of indigenous Ohlone sent good thoughts to waft over the group. The graduate's great-grandmother surely joined them. Ohlone Park East is like that of a Sunday. Makes you believe in a bright tomorrow. And in good urban planning. Its a fine place to sit, stay and play. Even if you don't have a dog.

It's a bummer that this park is called Ohlone Park East, when it should be titled Berkeley dog park. This dog park was recently renovated and it's fantastic. What used to be dirt and mud everywhere, the park is now freshly mulched. The dogs love the makeover! New benches, "dog tables", and concrete around. In addition to the remodel, a smaller park was created for dogs under 30 lbs. This smaller park has grass and my 28 lb dog prefers to hang around here! Dogs love the grass. I always recommend any of my local friends to bring their pooch here. It's busiest around 3-6pm each day or in the mornings on the weekend.

I like this place although I only came here because I am waiting for my other dog to get out of the vet because of a foxtail.

One is a flat area with a play scape and a cement slide. There's actually a tunnel nearby that goes under the road and crosses over to the rose garden, which is really cool. The cement slide is a must see for anyone with kids and even if you're an adventurous adult. There are plenty of cardboard boxes around for you to try it out. When I first heard about the cement slide, I didn't think it would be very fun, (cement and sliding didn't go together in my mind) but it is great! Then just a little bit south, above that play scape area, there's a baseball field. So many different people come here to meet. Some people for picnics, some people play soccer, some people play softball, some people bring their dogs. And then inside the woods behind the park, there are a picnic benches. I have a friend who had her wedding reception there. You can reserve them with the city. And then behind the picnic area, there's a hike and if you're very adventurous, there is a waterfall hidden, but it's not easy to find if you don't know about it. I highly recommend this park. During the winter, the baseball field is blocked off with Fence to protect the grass but other parts of the park are accessible.

You want to be able to watch over your kids as they're playing. Architecturally, the place looks pristine from every angle. Well laid out. Shows intention. Someone was doing their homework. Wasn't just slapped together like some places. They definitely had a landscape designer on board when they built this place. Nice touch Emeryville! Although the play structure isn't huge, it's one of the best for kids 5 and older. It has a very good variety. Long tall tunnel slide which kids absolutely love. The view from the top I'm sure is amazing and one of the choices for getting up there is by way of the rock climbing wall. Younger kids may have a hard time finding a place to play though. The area designed for younger kids is more of a art piece than an actual play area. You'll know what I mean when you get there. Ko
