    lots of basketball courts
    Alaric S.

First time here to this park! I saw that it was down the street from Grove Park, which normally has a lot of people! I found this park accessible from Google Maps and decided to check it out today Everything going on here at the park from kite flying, volleyball, soccer, basketball, tennis, pickle ball, and everyone out enjoying the lovely day The bathrooms were clean and air-conditioned, and I also like that every other court had benches in front of it to put your stuff down and relax would probably come here again soon! favorite park in the area now!

Six resurfaced and repainted tennis courts with lights for night play
    Robert C.

Played tennis in the 1960s and 1970s, usually at the Rose Garden or areas in the Berkeley Hills. Very difficult finding courts, as Berkeley has only 21 public tennis courts in eight parks. Seven of these parks have 1-3 courts. San Pablo Park has six tennis courts. Lived my first 27 years in Berkeley, but never been to San Pablo Park until scouted it out recently for a Berkeley High School reunion. Saturday August 28, 2021 12pm. Driving clockwise around the 13 acre park looking for a parking space. No parking available inside the park, only street parking. No available parking spaces in front of residences across the street, A few vacancies filled with orange parking cones, saved for the residents. At least 3 delivery trucks or vans unloading sports equipment double parked. Multi purpose field including two baseball diamonds, being used for soccer practice, and the 6 tennis courts in full use, with all parking spots on the street within 200 feet taken. Ten players in action on 1 of the 3 full length basketball courts. Surprisingly all Asian players. When was the last time you saw a basketball game with no black players? Drive completely around the half mile perimeter of the park, finally finding a parking space about 100 yards from the tennis courts. Walk through a toddler's playground area with a tot climber, animal springs toys, train, and swings. Next door is a school age playground with a large climber, a 12' slide, seesaw for 4 , sand diggers, treehouse and swings. Both playgrounds are packed, along with nearby picnic areas. All the children and adults masked, as children under 12 not eligible for vaccination. Junior tennis tournament taking all the six tennis courts, lighted for night play. Clean, resurfaced, and repainted tennis courts, in pristine condition compared to the shoddy conditions of courts elsewhere in Berkeley. San Pablo Park is an oxymoron: not one of the more desirable neighborhoods with the best public tennis courts in the city. And like Costco, on weekends the hard part is finding nearby parking.

    Hoop courts being renovated
    Victor G.

San Pablo Park is undergoing a renovation. the basketball court area is fenced off with the hoops down. some streets are currently closed. the baseball field is still evident as are the greens. the children's playground in the far end is barely visible. tennis courts will be forthcoming...

Returned to the park again for the Berkeley High All-School Reunion Picnic. It's held every two years and great to see many classmates I've actually known from kindergarten. It also is a trip down memory lane of my childhood. Back in those days, I'd just hangout with my friends. Hit my first home run here too. Later in life, my son spent summers here in the programs and eventually worked as a counselor. The city has really put money into the park. There's play structures for little kids, nice picnic areas with BBQs for families, and the outdoor sports facilities are well maintained. It's generally free of trash and graffiti. I think there's an understanding in the community that the park is off limits to crime during the day. Parking was packed with the Reunion Picnic, but the local neighborhood folks were welcoming.

Area and courts look nice to me. Plenty of parking. Easy to get to. There are 6 basketball courts which is nice. I've been looking for courts near Emeryville to shoot around while waiting out traffic. Not much else to say.

Beautiful gem in the middle of a neighborhood. Big kids park and little kids park for separate playing, and it clean. Also has basketball, tennis and baseball

Quality spot for pick-up soccer... The field is in relatively good condition, but while the space is huge, it's often in use.

There is a giant sundial near the pier. Its 10 foot in diameter and a gift from Berkeley's sister city Sakai, Japan. There is a giant proto-asian culture style statue called "The Guardian" on the grass. The Guardian is an extrapolation of a six-inch clay and wood sculpture in a Buddhist temple in Penang. The city fiercely resisted Frederic Fierstein's plopping of the Guardian. Fierstein fiercely fought back. Fierstein gathered signatures and placed an initiative on the ballot in support of the Guardian. The worst thing about coming so early are there was a person smoking weed in their car and kept loudly cursing on the phone even with kids and old people visibly around.

One is a flat area with a play scape and a cement slide. There's actually a tunnel nearby that goes under the road and crosses over to the rose garden, which is really cool. The cement slide is a must see for anyone with kids and even if you're an adventurous adult. There are plenty of cardboard boxes around for you to try it out. When I first heard about the cement slide, I didn't think it would be very fun, (cement and sliding didn't go together in my mind) but it is great! Then just a little bit south, above that play scape area, there's a baseball field. So many different people come here to meet. Some people for picnics, some people play soccer, some people play softball, some people bring their dogs. And then inside the woods behind the park, there are a picnic benches. I have a friend who had her wedding reception there. You can reserve them with the city. And then behind the picnic area, there's a hike and if you're very adventurous, there is a waterfall hidden, but it's not easy to find if you don't know about it. I highly recommend this park. During the winter, the baseball field is blocked off with Fence to protect the grass but other parts of the park are accessible.
