My family just moved into our new house in Grandview Heights and were getting some work done in the basement (new paint, new flooring, etc.). The painters noticed some mold and water damage near a few of the walls. I called Ohio Basement Authority and Jordan came out the next day. Having a finished basement makes figuring out if there is water coming in tough, but he walked me through the possibilities, and how we could remedy each one. Not being used to having a basement (I historically lived in *much* drier climates!), I really appreciated the thoughtfulness and attention to detail that he showed in walking me through the different situations. I decided to go with the interior waterproofing. I was scheduled to have my new flooring installed a day later, so the speediness that Jordan came out literally saved me thousands of dollars (and the time of having another floor installed!). DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY! Ohio Basement Authority (Groundworks) severely damaged my garage and pool deck in just a few hours, then took three months to inspect the damage. I hired them to lift three garage slabs. Instead, they cracked two slabs into seven pieces, then stopped working because the concrete was "cracked beyond a level of safely lifting." Their crew created the damage, then used it as the reason they couldn't finish the job. My garage floor is still 2-3 inches lower than the surrounding slabs, making it unusable for parking and failing to meet the work promised in the contract. I spent over $11,000 for work on my garage and pool area. The result is a broken garage and multiple trip hazards they created themselves--the same hazards they use during sales presentations to justify additional work. Around my pool, one slab now sits higher than the surrounding deck, another remains lower and was left separated instead of being repositioned flush. My property is in worse condition than before they started. Management ignored my calls for three months. When they finally responded, the attitude was hostile, with statements like, "We're not responsible for our salesman's promises," and "We don't level." Once they're paid, don't expect responsive customer service. If something goes wrong, be prepared to spend months fighting just to get someone to acknowledge the problem. To make matters worse, I later learned that completely demolishing and replacing the sunken concrete would have cost about 40% less than the foam lifting system they sold me--and their foam is already showing signs of settlement. (Business Owner)" quickly responded to my posting, saying they would be reaching out to me and requested an email with more information. As requested, I sent an email to them on 6/22/2026. I know they received my email, as I got an email back from them on the same day, again saying they would be reaching out shortly. Well, it's now 24 days later and no contact -- I was simply ignored again! My 6/22/2026 email (slightly redacted) follows: Received the following response to my Yelp review: [Here, I included the email from Wendy L.] Not much I can add to what was written in the review (repeated below), except my identity (which you should have had enough clues to figure out anyway) and the tech's identity. If you want to attempt to make amends, at this point it's not enough to have someone come out and "take a look and see if it's warranted". The only thing I would want to hear is "here is what we'll do to better level the sidewalk". It would appear that not only do they not honor their warranty, they simply ignore their customer's inquiries and complaints, hoping that the customer simply gives up and goes away. OBA has utterly horrible responsiveness to customer issues. Here is the timeline and details: 3/25/2026: OBA did the leveling - the results were very good. I paid $1,600 for the leveling which took one guy less than 2 hours to do, so they obviously made a large profit. They indicated that they would do a follow up inspection at one year and if there was more than a ¼" shift, they would make a no charge correction. 4/1/2026: OBA did the one year inspection. The tech found there was a more than ¼" shift. She said she would review the original paperwork at the office and call me tomorrow - that never happened. 4/15/2026: I sent the tech an email asking for the status - she never got back to me. ?/??/2026: I believe I sent a second email, but I can't find it in my files. 5/14/2026: I called the tech and she answered. She said she wasn't sure if it was from sinking (covered under warranty) or roots pushing the walk up (not covered). I said that it appeared to me that there was some sinking that would benefit from a repair and suggested that if she wasn't sure, OBA should err on the customer's side and make a correction. She said she would talk to her manager and get back to me tomorrow - that never happened. 5/19/2026: I called the tech and left a voice mail - never got a response. 5/21/2026: I called the central office and talked to an agent. I explained my situation and asked to have a manager call me and discuss it. She said she would have a manager call me - that never happened and now it's mid-June. read more

post: I was very disappointed with my experience with Ohio Basement Authority. They came to our home, inspected the job, and told us they would get back to us with an estimate. After waiting a week and a half without hearing anything, we had to call them twice just to get an answer. When someone finally responded, we were simply told they couldn't do the job. What was most frustrating was the lack of communication. If they knew they weren't interested or couldn't perform the work, they should have let us know promptly instead of leaving us waiting. Based on our experience, it felt like the project may have been too small for them to take on, but no one communicated that from the beginning. Unprofessional Install & Zero Follow-Through - Multiple System Failures We paid a premium for a "professional" installation, but the experience has been a disaster from start to finish. Despite multiple attempts to resolve these issues, the system is currently failing. The Major Issues: * Improper Drainage: The drain line was not buried deep enough. When I pointed this out, I was told the ground was "too hard" to dig correctly. Because the pipe was barely covered, it was punctured during routine yard aeration. It is now clogged and completely non-functional. * HVAC Damage: They promised to use dust-containment tarps and fans but failed to do so. This resulted in a clogged HVAC unit that had to be replaced shortly after their "cleaning" attempt. * Poor Workmanship: I had to call them back to glue the sump pit plumbing together--a basic step that was skipped during the initial install. The Service Gap: Last summer, a supervisor promised to personally fix the drainage issues. Since then, my texts and calls have gone unreturned. I have now completed two yearly inspections, and despite being told each time that "upper management" would be notified, I have heard nothing. I am not looking for a refund or to fix this myself. Wow I would have never thought I would be here. More than 10,000 dollars into a job and still no promises delivered. Sure they said what they did was "guaranteed" but they also said they would fill the cracks so I must surmise that the guarantee is not worth the paper it is on. It has been 10 days since my initial review. Had three missed "I'll be there". Granted one was followed up by a pity call six hours later. I had also reached out to the person who quoted me the job. He had a lunch with the new GM ( who also promised me a complete job) and didn't even call me after his lunch. The glue was visible on the pipes. The pipes were not connected. The glue never set. Water was coming out of the drains and washed the dirt away exposing the glue. I called OBA and they sent out a man to inspect and he picked up dirt and Literally packed it in pipes and said it would be ok. Water started pooling in my yard. NO water made it to the end of the yard. I had downspouts put in another house in Pataskala 25 years ago with no problem. I did not know you could screw up down spout pipes. Every time I see Mike Rowe on TV promoting Ohio Basement Authority, I cringe, here's why. I hired Ohio Basement Authority to put in a French drain system around the perimeter of the interior walls of the basement, it was supposed to take 1 crew 1 day. It took 3 crews and 5 days. On day 1 they jackhammered the perimeter and laid half the drain tile and left at 2:00 for a family emergency. I checked the progress and found that the weep holes that were supposed to be drilled on every block had not been drilled at all. Day 2, no show. Day 3 crew 2 (different people), they removed the previous laid tile to drill the weep holes Day 4, no show Day 5, crew 3 (different people) they finished the job The worst part of it all is that the plastic barrier hung to keep the cement dust from an adjacent room had fallen, and they did not bother to put it back up. The entire room and all It contained were covered with a thick coat of cement dust. Everything must be wiped off, and all the shelving must be taken outside and hosed off costing thousands of dollars. These issues led to another that caused problems with my homes already established radon system too... again, back and forth it seemed without secure response. Paid for an emergency call to another company to have to come save the day... and he did.... Unfortunately, was not OBA who helped... which is honestly disheartening again after what you pay. Had Ohio Basement Authority install carbon fiber supports in my basement. They told me the work was going to be two days and then last minute told me it would just be 1 day. They were messy with the epoxy got it on the floor and conduit on the wall. They didn't reattach the supports for the water piping to my washer or an outlet (left dangling). There was no follow-up and I had to call several times to scheduled someone to come reattach everything. Finally scheduled someone for more than 2 weeks after the work was done, and was given a window of 8am-12pm. 12pm came and went and I had to call to get an update. Guy came to my house and wanted to sell me a system for $10,000+ that included tearing out part of my basement floor and walls and installing a noisy sump pump. He tried to scare me that my foundation walls were bowing in and that I needed carbon fiber reinforcement. I went and got a laser to check them and they were perfectly plumb. Turns out all I needed was to re-grade the ground around my house foundation because there is a slight downward slope from my neighbors' to my house. This basement waterproofing industry has a 70% profit margin and all these guys are in cahoots with price fixing and false narratives. Signed a contract for a job to be done in October. A portion of the job was done differently than the contract stated because it was easier for the installers. There ended up being a lot of water being drained into our backyard and is now ruining our yard. The original contract was for water to be drained to the street. We called for a month to get them to come out and fix the error. Nobody called us back. Eventually, we called so many times that we finally did get a call back. It took another several weeks to get them to put us on the schedule. They sent people out to our house to "fix" the issue. At this point, we were clear that drainage HAD to be redirected to the street. They never intended to do this when they came because they showed up without permits and instead offered a "box" for the drainage area, which we had explicitly stated multiple times at that point we did not want. This group of workers agreed the best plan was to hand dig to the street to avoid our irrigation system and that they would come back once on the schedule (and with a permit). Again weeks went by without being scheduled. Finally, someone was sent out and they brought a ditch witch. We AGAIN stated That the plan had been to hand dig to the street. The Person sent said that he absolutely would not hand dig and he would be using the ditch witch. We explained the concerns for the damage to our property and underlying structures to which he stated "he didn't give a shit about our sprinklers". He recurrently used this type of language with our small Children in the yard. He was aggressive and clear that he had no issues damaging our property. We had to ask him to remove himself. We called to express our concerns. We were told that this was unacceptable and the "someone would call us". No one has, whether to apologize or to schedule the original fix. It has been 7 MONTHS and still we have not been able to get them to correct their original laziness. Company leadership does not care about you or the quality of their work. My mom used this company to water proof her crawl space over 10,000$and she was informed she only needed one sub pump when she had two, the work was done now part of the crawl space is flooded with water coming over the plastic they installed. To waterproof a water damaged basement, excellent workmanship, exceeded my expectation. The workers were very polite and knowledgeable. Completed the job in one day. Removed concrete flooring, install indoor water gutters, drilled several weep holes, removed old sump basin and sump pumps, installed new equipment, they also install a rubber barrier to guide water to the gutters and placed new concrete where needed. They removed all debris, the basement looked cleaner than before they started. I was impressed with the quality and value of Ohio Basement Authorities service. I would highly recommend this company. Sold us a basement drainage system that we did not need. When they put the french drain system in, they re-routed my water softener into our sump pump through that drain system, and we had to replace our entire sump pump system at a cost of over $3,000 because it corroded due to the salt from the softener, I would not recommend these people to give estimates, as they pressure you into things you do not need, and apparently do not know how to reconnect a drain system from a water softener correctly. read more

I needed to get a new sump after maintaining the old one for over 20 years, and it was time. I was able to get scheduled with Ohio Basement Authority at a convenient time for me and Kyle Lockard came out and did an outstanding job installing the new sump pump. He cleaned out a significant amount of grime that had clearly been left behind in previous years. Unlike other companies that just checked if the sump pump was working and called it maintenance without addressing the debris, Ohio Basement Authority went above and beyond as evidenced by the photos. I cannot recommend Ohio Basement Authority. They failed to close out a permit and have left us going round and round with the city. We spent over a year trying to get OBA to help us and they have now refused to even answer our calls. The city even reached out to Douglas Secrest who apparently confirmed that he would make sure our permit gets closed. Nothing has been done. The city says they unfortunately get a lot of calls from OBA customers saying they can't get OBA to help them. The customer service is so terrible, I don't recommend working with any iteration of this company. Be aware that the Groundworks Company operates under several other names in this industry. Someone needs to take these people to small claims court. read more

I had a basement waterproofing service done a few months ago. They canceled 3 times before completion. Work was sub par. Alot of the concrete has cracked, the white membrane has fallen down in several places and tears where they wrapped the corners. I have tried to get service completed twice since the original installation, due to water coming into the basement again. They have canceled twice again. I upgraded to a battery pump two days after the original installation and they took the pump I originally paid for? I have wasted a week of time off trying to get this completed. Really bad experience. These people don't know how to do any sort of basic construction. They tried to do a lift of my back room, but they messed it all up. The floor has an arc to it now. The left huge gaps all the way to the ground in the floor boards when they tried to cover it back up. They ruined my back door so it wouldn't lock properly. So I go around and around with them and they finally agree to come back out in a week to fix their mistakes. Today is the day they were supposed to come fix it. We took time off work, sent the dog to the grandparents. I get a call "yeah we can't make it today, how about Monday?" This place is a joke. They have absolutely no respect for their customers' time. Now no one will respond to me from the company. Look at the shoddy work these people did. They've ruined my floors and it looks like we're going to have to go to court because they refuse to work with me. If I did not already have financing through them I would have cancelled the job. It looks like the work they did was good. They did leave it a little messier than I expected. I contracted with Ohio Basement Authority last fall, November 2024 to repair my foundation at my attached garage and one of my basement walls. They put us on the schedule for January 10th and 13th and completed the garage. They did work in the basement that was not permitted. They assured us that they would simply send in a revised permit. I did not think much of it as I'd never needed a permit before. By March , they decided that the work done wasn't enough and they wanted to dig up my side yard which would have encroached on my neighbors property. I kept telling them it was going to be impossible to do what the wanted. I was told by the Co Building Inspector that an engineer is supposed to come out and look at every job. Not one engineer came out. EVER!!!! They also told me they couldn't get me on the schedule until May. I reminded them that I was moving at the end of April so they squeezed us in earlier but decided that what I'd been telling the was true. There wasn't enough room. That day they only thing they did was to compact the dirt mound by the garage which I was thankful for. Here it is almost the end of April and I'm still waiting on the permit. I have had to keep on them and call them to check up on the permit. When I would call in, they would send me to voicemail and I would never get a return call. The guys who come out to do the work do a great job. The office staff is a nightmare to work with. I would never use their services again. I had my foundation stabilized. During the stabilization process, large gaps up to an inch wide were created across more than 20' of wall where no cracks existed before. William, a supervisor, came out to inspect the damage. I was told that I should 100% expect that those things will happen- it is the nature of stabilizing the foundation. William said he was talking with 5 other customers at present who were complaining about the same issue. He said his guys did a "great job" and the problem is with the salesmen not making it clear that large gaps and long cracks are going to happen. Ohio Basement Authority provided the worst experience we've ever had to deal with regarding house maintenance/repairs. We hired OBA to complete a full waterproof of our basement in August 2024. By October 2024, we had noticed some leaking through the wall and called OBA to see what the problem was. Turns out, the original job was not completed correctly, and the foreman did not go by the blueprint/contract the sales rep created that we all agreed on. In general, corners were cut and, in some instances, work that we paid for in the contract simply was not done. (ex. sump pump was supposed to be disconnected from sewer line and attached to downspout outside. Also, beams were supposed to be removed so wall seal could be installed seamlessly, instead the wall seal was taped to beams. Not sure how that's going to hold up as the tape is already starting to peel off.) February 2025, more leaking occurs, and more patch jobs are completed by OBA to no avail as trouble spots continue to arise all around the basement. By end of April 2025, issues were so bad OBA offered to redo the whole job correctly this time. However, they couldn't schedule us until late July 2025. In that time, the outside downspouts failed and flooded our garage and back room. Turns out, they were installed improperly. Fast forward to July, they pull a no call no show on our rescheduled redo, where we missed a funeral to stay home. When they finally do show up later that week, they still didn't complete the job. The beams still were not removed, so we are stuck with "tape" holding the wall seal. Also, they left equipment/material in our yard for over 3 weeks, killing our grass. they said they'd reseed, but they never came back. Unfortunately, it hasn't rained much since their last patch job, so we don't know if everything is working properly. In closing, it's been a nightmare that's lasted well over a year working with OBA. Due to their poor quality and customer service, I wouldn't recommend them. read more

Polyleveling of concrete on back patio. They lifted some but could not lift part butting up to the house and ended up making it worse. Had basement waterproofed and couldn't do laundry for over three months because water would pour out of the drain. They came five times to fix and did not do it right until the 6th call. There original name was Ohio basement systems. After that they gave there poly level jobs to Michigan foundation systems who said there was nothing they could do for me. Their approach is "hard sell" -- buy that day for 10% off (at least when in my home) and we did indeed, sign the contract. However -- I chose to cancel the contract within the 3-day time-frame and sent an email to all parties. Additionally, I went back to the 10pp contract to find that the cancellation pages were at the end which I then printed, signed, scanned and returned to all parties that same day and BEFORE the deadline. However -- they never responded, never had the finance company Greensky cancel the financing, and never responded to me! This then hit my credit a MONTH after I had cancelled. I had to then call OBA again and get a bit mouthy -- "who do I contact, HOW does this get closed out now that it's hit my credit over 30 days after I cancelled by their own rules!". OBA said Greensky cancels it, Greensky said OBA cancels it, etc etc ... As you can tell -- I am VERY dissatisfied by their methods and lack of response. UPDATE: After having to follow up a plethora of times, they finally completed their work obligation at both properties and ensured that a plumber would be scheduled to review their work of my pipe they broke and I'd be compensated for my 6 days missed work. I had to call and schedule the plumber after following up several times and them still failing to have a plumber come out. Additionally, I was asked my hourly rate so I could be compensated for now 7 days missed work since I had to schedule an additional day for the plumber I had to take time to schedule with. Their remedy was to offer $475, which wouldn't cover a minimum wage employee's missed wages for all the time I missed work. I directly called out their reneging on compensation and they wouldn't budge. This whole ordeal has been a nightmare and talking to the multiple crews, seems to be the norm for them. Go with any other company and avoid the headache we've dealt with! -- AVOID AND GO WITH SOMEONE ELSE! The original date they came out (12/27), the crew made a huge mess and didn't clean it up, made significant errors with the sump pump install, busted a pipe and "fixed it" (see later issues), left water turned off, hot water turned off, window open, concrete powder on XBOX controllers and personal chairs, etc. The QC guy came that Friday (12/30) and made some fixes and identified other errors that would need to be sorted with another day and confirmed pipe had been fixed. The crew came out to allegedly finish the job (1/3) and said because of the leak of the pipe that was busted by the original crew and a plumber would need to be called. The office told me they could fix it and a plumber wasn't necessary. The crew with a construction manager came out to fix the busted pipe (1/4). My basement is still an absolute mess, the output pipe from the sump pump is still right on the foundation, the concrete work is still shotty and hasn't been fixed, and I'm very dissatisfied with the job. Allegedly this will all be completed on 1/18 (almost a month after the original date of this 1 day job was scheduled). No financial discount has been offered for this job going well beyond the original timeline and having such a plethora of issues in quality. Update: Both my boyfriend and I are both wildly unsatisfied with their work on both properties after spending nearly 20k. Regarding my boyfriend's house: His lattice work his stepfather (almost in his 70s!) spent hours completing and a destroyed dryer vent that they said they would fix. This was after we were promised a more experienced and courteous crew after my house's work was botched. Now we are going to be behind on listing his house for sale and out 20k for subpar work. My initial call to OBA did not set very high expectations. However, when Travis Burkart came out and look at our problem, he more than made up for the initial impression. Travis was very straight forward, detailed in his explanations and easy to work with. In other words, no sales games or manipulation of facts. Within a week, the crew arrived. They were well organized and demonstrated a strong worth ethic. While the project was messy by its very nature, they left the basement looking like they were never there. The crew was able to finish the job in a day (1.5 day was the estimate) and exceeded my expectations the entire day. Since I've not experienced other OBA inspectors or crews, I can only recommended Travis (614-499-8003) to others with the expectation that the same crew would perform the work. read more

We signed the contract to have the sleeve replaced on the corner of the basement based on the fact that they said they would hand dig since a large equipment would tear up the yard and many plants. We had other estimates that also said they would hand dig but went with OBA because of good reviews and good price. They said the plants would have to be moved so I removed the ones closest to the area to be dug. They called the morning the work was to be done and said we were pushed back a week. When i expressed my frustration at having to keep plants alive for a week in 90 degree heat, the project manager just laughed. Then they showed up with a bobcat and refused to hand dig. The site manager said we should route the leak in the basement to the sump pump. They have not returned our deposit even though we have it in writing it would be hand dug. This company moves all your furniture to the middle of your basement, does the work, and leaves. When folks ask them to kindly put their furniture and washer and dryer back, as they have a qualified disability and cannot move it on their own and now have no access to clean their clothes or use their basement office for work, they tell them that they are not contractually obligated to help.
