Love this Salon in Scottsdale! First of all, this place is so cute and in old town Scottsdale, so good location. Clean and cozy interior. My hairdresser Chloe is AMAZING! I'm not a reviewing hair salon person, but I had to this time. She walked me through what she's going to do, asked me questions about what hairstyle/color I'd like and also pricing, which was straightforward and clear! I've always wanted to go cool medium light blonde with light blonde parts, other hairdressers made me go back 2-3 times and still didn't or couldn't get me the color I wanted, but Chloe did it on my first visit. She told me it might not as bright as I wanted, but she did it and still took care of my hairs. I've been on the hunt for a new salon for quite a while & thankfully my hunting has finally come to an end... thanks to both Ohana Salon & Kiara my new Stylist!! Upon entering the salon the receptionist offered me a complimentary beverage as I waited for Kiara... I declined as I just had some coffee before arriving! The salon had just a few clients because Sunday is the quietest day of the week... nice to know as I needed a salon that's open on Sundays! Once I sat down appeared lovely Kiara, she brought me to her station.. started the consultation, had me pick a Chakra card to relax me & gave me a deep neck massage before even walking me over to wash my hair! Yes, she had me sold I'm loving it... she's either gotta mess my extremely long hair up or she just made herself a regular client... lol!! Okay now I'm anticipating the shampoo & conditioning.... You're correct no complaints there either, plus because my hair is so long I got to sit in that chair a little longer, lol!! Kiara walked me over & got to work, I was wanting some long curtain bangs with layers throughout to add fullness... she did exactly as I requested & began styling with the dryer! Once Kiara was done I told her I loved it, she did everything I wanted... she then even offered to using the curling iron to show me the difference in the style but I told her there's no need to... I'm loving it!! I was so happy to finally have a stylist that did what I was envisioning & not try to talk me into something that I wasn't wanting! Also...FYI, for all you future clients that had stylists destroy your hair because they're inexperienced... look no further, this salon holds their stylists accountable & you as a client sign paperwork prior to your appointment in agreement that if you're not satisfied with your final result the salon will take care of you within the time frame window in the contract! Great experience with Wayne! Initially found this salon via Groupon, but I didn't realize it wasn't valid for this stylist. I'm so glad I still decided to keep the appointment without the Groupon! Diana - the front desk lady, was sweet from the get go & made me coffee upon my arrival. Wayne was a gracious host & showed me around the salon before sitting me down in his chair. I went in with looong witch like hair - I hate getting my hair cut- & he helped me feel confident in chopping off my locks for a new look & to do a melted balayage instead of highlights. No regrets at all! I love my hair. I took my 6-year-old daughter in for her very first haircut, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Anna was patient, kind, and attentive from start to finish. She listened closely to what we wanted, asked thoughtful questions, and made sure everything was just right before making the first cut. My daughter is quite the little chatterbox, and Anna handled her energy with such grace and warmth. She made the whole visit fun and special, and truly made my daughter feel comfortable and excited. There was no wait, and the entire staff was welcoming and professional. The salon itself is beautiful, clean, and clearly well cared for. I wish I could be leaving a better review because staff was so nice but sadly - to many mistakes happened. 1. Scheduling - I wanted a simple wash + nice blowout bc I have tried Drybar but they just never get it right. Heard great reviews of Ohana after some research and decided to call and book! I was thankful that they were able to squeeze me in that morning- about 1 hour from my initial phone call. I received a call back with an explanation from the receptionist that time I was scheduled for, was no longer available and it was an internal error in their system. At that point I did already plan out my day around that appointment, so a bit frustrating but I do not fault the receptionist. The receptionist let me know they could still fit me in but at 2 o'clock, a lot later than my initial appt time- but since they were squeezing me in same day I had no complaints. I did explain how I had to drop my car off at the auto shop and the receptionist gave me reassurance it wouldn't take more than an hour. With that reassurance I agreed to the rebooking. When I arrived, I waited an additional 30 mins to be seen from my stylist... 2. Website/groupon transparency - my initial discovery of ohana was from another girl praising their work after she got the same treatment I was looking to get and used a Groupon. I decided to buy the same Groupon to try them out. No where on their website/groupon policy does it claim the discount only applies to selective stylist. Upon arrival for my appt. I was told my discount doesn't apply to the stylist they rebooked me with and there would be a price increase. At this point I was still trying to stay positive but not excited at the price increase and figured I could just come back another time to use the Groupon for a stylist who accepts it. THIS ISSUE WAS FIXED: SHOUTOUT TO THE RECEPTIONIST + MANAGER WHO UNDERSTOOD CIRCUMSTANCE AND STILL ACCEPTED IT. 3. Service - like stated from above, I was looking for a simple wash/condition + blowout service. I was VERY disappointed with the results and cannot believe they let me walk out of the salon looking the way I did. He handled my hair with what it seemed like with very little care. When I asked him what type of services he does specifically, he gave me treatment recommendations I should do, then referred me to other stylist in the salon "who do accept Groupons." I found this comment a bit entitled and condescending. I'm not sure if the stylist had some prior pre assumptions about me due to the fact I was now given the approval from his manager that my service under him would be covered by a Groupon. My hair felt more dry/brittle than when I came in. Stylist tried to blame it on my ends without knowing I did a trim/split end treatment with my other usual salon a week prior. Not only did my hair feel worse but the "blowout" was half ass. I explained I liked a lot of volume at my roots and I have curtain bangs. He left multiple round brushes in my hair while working on other sections, which not only pulled/flattened my hair - losing the volume at the roots, but also made my head heavy and hard to balance when someone is pulling/blowing heat in your face. I had driven down to Arizona from Alaska in June and had scheduled a bridal appointment with Anna. I decided last minute I wanted make-up done as well and Ohana Salon made it happen for me. I came in on the morning of my wedding day and Anna had some beautiful bridal hair clips for me knowing I had just been on the road for the last 5 days. Above and beyond! After my hair, I saw Sammi at her station for make-up. Both Anna & Sammi had me leaving the salon feeling absolutely beautiful. They both truly know their craft and it showed. Do not go here. They didn't listen to what I requested at all... tragic. On top, way overpriced. I paid $220 for a full color and cut, wanting to go blonde. I sent them a picture of cut and color (attached here) and they agreed they would be able to accommodate, even scheduling me for a longer appointment to achieve the color in the picture. End result was barely ANY color change from what I came in with!! So disappointed, and when I called back to let them know I wasn't happy and did not feel the color was even close, they offered a cheap conditioning session instead of fixing the color. I deeply regret not listening to the reviews and booking a highlight retouch and haircut. I'll say that the staff are nice and it's a relaxing experience however, the quality of the work is beauty school apprenticeship at best (with the exception of the owner, the staff I consulted with have very few years of experience and seem completely insecure). I usually receive 4x the foils, bleach application, and product on my hair and happily pay 3x the price for good hair. I asked for a regrowth touch up and a shadow root. I was very specific that I did not want to compromise the highlights I had (second photo). I left looking like I haven't retouched my highlights in years and it looks like an early 2000s ombré. I sat down in Melissa's chair and she started a conversation like we had been friends for years. I was so at ease and it was just an organic connection. Her consultations are a little longer but she always makes sure I understand the process involved with what I'm asking for, sometimes what I want isn't a day process. Trust your stylist ladies, they know what they're talking about. She has been the only person to cut my hair and I swear I've never had so many great hair cuts. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SALON! I have been to a couple of the girls at this salon because everyone had a great eye. I tend to see Chandra the owner the most. She has an amazing eye for formulating which as a redhead makes me feel so great and relaxed. She has gotten me to my hair goals without damaging my hair. I used to love Ohana and it was the only place I got my hair done in AZ until my stylist left and I had to go to someone new for a hair cut and I got the worst haircut of my life. My hair has the worst layers ever they literally look like shelves in my hair and it was my first time with this stylist and I usually don't have my hair styled after a cut if I don't have plans after but I said if she thought she needed to then go for it I don't mind and she said it's ok she didn't need to if I didn't want it and I got home and dried my hair and I wanted to cry. I have never written a review on yelp, but I had to share my experience from this salon. I went in asking for an inch cut off my hair, and even showed the stylist a picture of what I was thinking. She rushed through the consultation and didn't really take the time to understand what I was wanting. I left the salon with hair cut to my chin (my hair was at my collar bone before the hair cut), she had cut off almost two inches more than I asked. The WORST part was that she cut my hair shorter in the front and longer in the back (essentially a mullet). I was so devastated and let my stylist know I was unhappy, but she was defensive of her work. Absolutely terrible. I would never recommend this salon to anyone. I hope this review helps. read more

Oh man. I went in today for partial highlights & cut with Caroline, and it was the worst cut and color I've ever had. I feel bad because Caroline herself is a wonderful person with great chair manners, but she needs training before continuing to cut and color people's hair. I was in town visiting my parents and decided to try out Ohana. I asked Caroline to bring up my highlights (babylights) and have them fade in to my roots, as I am very low maintenance with my hair and only get it colored a couple times a year. As for the cut, I asked for a trim and told her she can take off however much she needs to get everything nice and even. When she started putting my hair in the foils, I watched in horror as she brushed the bleach down all the way to my (already super blonde) ends. I had to pause her and ask for her to please leave my ends out. Every time I've gotten my hair done in the past, my stylist has taken care to brush on the bleach and blend it up the strands so as to avoid hard lines; I was nervous watching her apply the bleach in a nice straight line across the top of every foil and then bring it down (and bring it down, still, unnecessarily far). She washed my hair, and then got me in the chair to brush and cut. Ouch. Her long acrylic fingernails kept getting caught in my hair and I could feel hair being ripped out. I eventually asked to brush my own hair. When she went to cut, she divided my hair into three sections: back, front left and front right. She did not even put scissors to the front left section! She just pulled it down, looked at it, and "mmphed" as if it were already the right length. When she got to my side bangs, it got worse. I asked her to just make them even, and after her first go at it I had to point out that the right side was 2 inches longer. She tried several more times to even them out, and she was just taking them shorter and shorter but both sides were at different angles and lengths. After four times of her going at it and pausing to tell me she could see that they still weren't even, I just asked her to stop. When she blow dried my hair, I wanted to cry. At my rootline was four chunks of bright blonde highlights, way too thick, ending at abrupt and obvious diagonal lines to my scalp. I asked her if she could break up the chunks of color and somehow fade the sharp lines at my roots. She brought in someone else to look at it, and then told me she was going to "shadow box" it by adding my natural hair color at the top. She applied the color along my root line, and I had to ask her to blend it out (it was another sharp line of color!) and to pull some color through the thick highlights. She tried to fix it and I appreciate it, but when we rinsed it out again and blowdried the roots it was obvious that it only made a little difference. At that point I felt defeated, thanked her and left. I came home and blowdried my hair, and for the first time saw the outcome of my haircut (she never showed me the back of my head in the salon). What happened?!? A chunk of my hair in the back is just gone! In addition to that, the cut isn't straight or even. I look more like I need a haircut now than when I went in. I've never experienced anything like this. Caroline was really nice through the whole cut and color and trying to make it right, but it just seemed like she didn't have the training to know how to. She will make a great stylist one day, but this was a bad cut and color. I felt like I had to share my experience because I would've liked to know what I was walking into. read more

This has been by far THE WORST experience I ever had at a hair salon: not only they burnt my scalp, they also burnt my hair and completley stained the roots of it, it seems the bleach leaked out of the foil and left blotchy stains all over my head. They also failed to achieve the requested result (we had a consultation prior to doing anything to my hair and I was told it would be ok) they gave me red/brassy hair and a rough root to what was supposed to be a balayage. The sad part is that when I told my stylist (her name is Amber) that I was very unhappy with the whole experience, she said (and I quote) "I wish you the best in your hair journey" in other words; you already paid so I don't care to have you back as a costumer, kind of the same thing happened when I called the manager, she kept saying ok ok, like she didn't care to try to fix the mess they made. I would stay away from this place because they were not only ignorant, they were also unapologetic and they charge a premium for a lousy and terrible job. I also forgot to mention they make you sign a bunch of papers before they take you in and now it all makese sense, they protect themselves from giving refunds. What they offer is to go back with the same stylist to fix you which makes no sense because why would you go back to the person that ruined you in the first place? She took the time to talk to me about my hair hygiene habits, what ideas I had with my hair, what my options were, the products they used, and was overall so wonderful and accommodating. She seemed very detail-oriented and really cared about what I thought about the colors she used/the lengths of my layers based on the ideas I shared, and often checked on how I was feeling during the entire process. Horrified after going here for years! I have been going to this salon for the past 13 or 14 years and have always had great stylists. I have been going to Katie who I really like for the past few years until my last visit when she told me she had to raise my rates. I understand that and was expecting around $25 but she raised them $100 which I found very unprofessional and offensive when she told me she is on her feet 12 hours a day and has a wait list. Basically I got dropped for higher paying customers! I felt like she was trying to make me feel guilty that she did not increase my rates each year and then kicked me to the curb. Ouch.
