It was hard to find an activity that would take my daughter at 3 years old when she started. She knew nothing about gymnastics and she never really associated with other children besides family. Been with this gym for about a year and I can't tell you how much my daughter has grown. We tried out the afternoon classes on a weekday but noticed that it was interfering with my daughters nap time and had to make a switch. The coaches and staff were very accommodating and they helped my daughter even on days that she just cried during practice. I wanted to so badly just pull her out and go home, but the coaches made sure that she knew she had to practice and was so patient and just sat with her throughout practice. My daughter is starting kindergarten in August so we decided take her out. We were sad, but we know that another child gets to take her spot and is going to learn so much and make a lot of friends like our daughter did! Best decision was made when she joined Island Tumblers!

I have always wanted to be able to do backhandsprings but I am terrified of going backwards. I've tried multiple times with others but have never been able to do the skill. Over a two month span of having a lesson a week, Coach Cynthia broke every single part down and made sure I was ready before trying to put everything together. There were alot of things I was doing that were preventing me from getting the skill when previously trying. Coach Cynthia was very thorough in explaining every part which made me feel safe and less scared to go backwards. Coach Cynthia is a great teacher who is positive and supportive. I left the gym after each lesson knowing something new and feeling acomplished. This is also a family run gym which I love! I have always found that family run businesses are more welcoming and give you a sense of home. I know I will return for more lessons throughout the years. If you are looking for lessons for you or your children I highly recomend looking into this gym! Maholo Manakoa Gym and Coach Cynthia for helping me overcome my fears!

I stayed at work one day rather than go back to my home office in order to be closeby and attend the adult gymnastics class. Athough the facility was nice, it's really tiny. The size of a single company warehouse. They sure do get creative with the space - in that there was a private lesson happening and the kid was tumbling through our class space as well. This would be an amazing aerial studio (high ceilings) but it's pretty cramped, although I have to say they do their best to utilize the space efficiently. This review is for adult gymnastics only. In short: it's the kids class, with adults participating. Not very satisfying. And my warmup was led by like a six year old. As an adult participant, I was not impressed, but don't keep this from bringing your children.

The space is quite adequate as they do offer all the basic gym equipment, including parallel bars, high and low beams, a trampoline and a padded area where they do their floor routines amongst the many other things. They do offer a complimentary trial class, just be sure to give them a call first. When we first were inquiring, the friendly instructors were ok with us watching how the class is taught. They have a website that shows the different age groups and the times that are offered. They offer classes for children 20m and up. They don't hold classes on a friday. Classes are paid for on a monthly basis. Their is a sibling discount of $3 if you have more than one child. Classes are priced differently depending on how many classes you take a week, you can take up to 3 classes a week. Length of class varies depending on your age. For my two girls that are in the 7+ age group, their class is 75 min. long. Twice a year they have a movie night type of thing. They kids watched a movie against the big white wall, ate pizza, and then had brownie sundaes! It was a treat for the kids and we were able to drop them and pick them up when they were done. I think I finally found an activity that my kids enjoy. My kids love coming here and they like coming to practice everytime.

Came for her first real class.. instructors were reminded that this was her first class and zero experience. They gave her little to no instruction and basically made her follow classmates in front of her. It's not so bad for floor exercises but it was the same for beam and bars. There were 10 kids to one instructor and while she was very kind, she could not adequately watch all 9 and help my one. For a moment there were two.. but seeing as they knew it was my child's first practice, they should have taken the time to quickly teach her basics. She was allowed to go on the high balance beam, backwards and has never done it before. I could see the fear and confusion in my daughter's eyes before she went on. I understand wanting kids to learn partly on their own and to make their own mistake, but this was borderline dangerous. We paid for a month, but I'm not sure if it is worth my child's safety to go back. It's sad bc I followed them on IG and had high hopes and liked their small family business setting. And, I liked that their posts used Hawaiian words and values. That is something that stood out to me on their social media.

It seemed like every few weeks there was someone new. Many of the coaches were very young, and while I have absolutely nothing against their age, I do have a problem with what appeared to be a lack of experience, proper training, and concern for the children's safety. The kids are pushed incredibly hard, sometimes beyond what I believe is safe. My daughter has been dealing with injuries for nearly a year, and we are still trying to get her healed. A recent MRI revealed multiple sprains, including older injuries. I strongly believe these injuries are a result of the training and lack of proper supervision she experienced here. As a parent, it is heartbreaking to watch your child go through this, especially when you trusted a facility to help them grow, learn, and stay safe. What makes this even more frustrating is that the facility seems to put so much time, effort, and attention into its competitive teams, while the children attending regular recreational classes don't seem to receive that same level of care or quality coaching. From my experience, it felt like the recreational program was more about collecting tuition than genuinely investing in the children. In the entire 2 1/2 years my daughter attended, I can honestly say she had maybe one truly great coach, and unfortunately, that coach was only there for a short period of time. The constant rotation of inexperienced coaches made it nearly impossible for the kids to have consistency or build trust with their instructors. I would never send my child back here, and I would strongly caution other parents to really look into this facility before enrolling their children. When you're trusting someone with your child's physical safety and well-being, you should be able to expect experienced coaches, proper supervision, and a genuine commitment to every child, not just the competitive athletes. No child should have to spend a year recovering from injuries when they were simply supposed to be learning, growing, and enjoying a sport.

We're currently in our second year of cheer and she almost has her back handspring and is learning to be a flyer on their junior team. I love picking her up from cheerleading and hearing her excitedly tell us all about her practice time. Pros: -Top level, quality instruction. I WISH I could have gone to this cheer gym when I was in high school. They're really stringent about technique and won't allow you to progress onto a new skill until you have foundational skills in place. Tumbling this year has been split by skill level so there's more time to practice and improve. Coaches expect a lot out of the teams but I believe they're always fair and I'm really happy they're not easy during practice. -The teams are awesome and they really improve exponentially from the start to the end of the season. Last year our daughter wasn't on a travel team and I'm really looking forward to seeing her compete at a national competition. It's not only improved her physical skills as an athlete, but it's given her a different level of confidence that can only be gained through hard work and tenacity. -Island Elite is located in town. There are other all-star gyms but I don't want to have to fight through traffic to get there. Cons: -Cheer is not a cheap sport like soccer, and monthly tuition for all-star cheer is $200+ a month for three practices a week, plus $30-$60 for tumbling classes. I still totally think it's worth it because you're committing to being the best! In addition to your monthly practice tuition you'll also spend $1000+ on cheer uniforms, choreography and approximately $100-$200 on each competition your team competes in. Currently the all-star teams compete in two local competitions and 1-2 mainland competitions in the Spring. If traveling for cheer is not something you want to do, they also have cheer teams which practice once a week and only do local competitions. I think this is a good alternative if you're unsure of the time and financial commitment. The gym also offer opportunities to fundraise throughout the year. -During our first year of cheer I didn't always feel as though communication was the best, but now that we're on our second year I feel as though we are a lot better equipped in terms of what to expect and what questions to ask. -Island Elite is located in a warehouse that shares the same parking lot as Costco Iwilei. Unfortunately the practice gym is not air conditioned so it gets really hot especially during the Summer months.
