They have clean restrooms (major plus), although we never had issues finding bathroom while strolling around Boston. They have great maps of Boston and a nice one of the subway system, super helpful. This is where Freedom Trail starts, you can book tours here. They don't have an actual map for it, I printed one I found online because I didn't want to do a guided tours, I wanted to hit all the spots. Nice customer service, a friendly crew working here. They sell a nice souvenir selection, OK prices, I snagged a few, a lobster Christmas ornament for myself because... Great place to shop for souvenirs, you won't find many shops in town. When you start your Boston trip, start here for map, advice, info and a souvenir or two!

As the name suggests, it has…read moreinformation about Boston that may be helpful for tourists, such as maps, pamphlets about attractions, etc. It is also a souvenir shop selling shirts, stickers, magnets, keychains, and other typical knick knacks. But most important of all, the visitor center has a bathroom! The bathroom is free to use, but there are only a few stalls, and with the long line up, the small visitor center felt quite crowded. But the line moved quickly and the bathroom was clean. Do note that the visitor enter closes at 4:45pm so if you need to use the bathroom at 5pm, you're out of luck! The staff were helpful and welcoming, and there's a cute gift shop with White Mountain merchandise and local goodies. Public restrooms are also available. It's an easy pull off from the main road and a great first stop to get oriented to the area. There are also stamps here for people collecting travel book stamps. Kathy was especially great, she was very kind, helpful, and very funny. She went out of her way to make sure we had our trip planned out with all our questions answered. They also offer maps in multiple languages, including Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Hindi and I loved the accommodation. Overall, great stop to get acquainted with the White Mountains!

This is one of Maine's iconic lighthouses that is easy to access by car if you're visiting York, ME…read moreor driving through the area. First, it's pretty for taking a photo or two. You cannot access the island directly, but can view the lighthouse from the parking lot. Second, you can walk down the rocks on the left side and watch the crashing waves. In the summer (we visited on July 4, 2026), it can get quite crowded (the parking lot has perhaps 40 spaces in total). But most people do not stay for a long time. If you are driving to Maine on the coastal route, I would strongly recommend visiting here for a photo after you cross the state line at Kittery!

This picturesque park is the perfect place for a walk. The mostly flat, 1 mile loop is not…read moreparticularly buggy and there are lookout points with benches if you need a rest or just want to sit and enjoy the view. It also creates the perfect place for reflection, perhaps to meditate or journal. Pro Tip - Grab a flyer from the Visitor Center or look up the website on your phone before you start the trail so you know what each marker on the trail means. The Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge is also dog friendly. Although, there really isn't a trashcan to throw away potty bags. It's usually not too busy when I've been there, but I'm usually there in the morning. When you start the trail, there is info on Rachel Carson's environmental contributions and life along with what wildlife you might see during your walk. There is a small parking lot. I haven't had trouble finding parking before; although, I'm not sure if it's the timing of when I've been there or if it just seems to be a locals place that the tourists haven't discovered yet.
