This was our second visit here. The early evening view is peaceful and beautiful with the boats in the background. We sat on the patio and ordered fried calamari and cocktails. I didn't enjoy the peppers that covered the calamari and could've done without them but the sauce was yummy! Our server was friendly and attentive. On this night, they had a DJ which handed out musical bingo cards. I think that's a really unique way to engage the crowd. He was also from Texas, like myself. Met a colleague here for lunch this week. Had never been to this establishment before. We were sat at a nice private 2 person table with an umbrella right on the water. The views were great, such a nice relaxing place for lunch. I ordered a spicy marg and the lobster roll with butter. The drink was great. Service was great. This was our first visit. It was a beautiful sunny day - in the low 80's. We arrived about 12:30 pm - there were a lot of folks there. We were able to get a seat right away - but it was in the full sun. Fortunately, after 15 or 20 minutes a table with an umbrella opened up and the hostess moved us. We ended up in the shade with a view overlooking the marina. Nice. The service was leisurely - the entire lunch took almost 1.5 hours - very pleasant. Staff very nice. I had the pulled pork platter and my wife had the hamburger platter. Both were standard bar fare. The only comment is that both the fries and the onion rings had been sitting for a while before being served. Lunch with tip and no alcoholic beverage was about $50.00. Props too for an ice cream window off the main restaurant. I'd say the menu is small but it's just that kind of "crab shack eating" that is relaxed and perfect for a gorgeous night. I got the Lobster roll (with butter, not a mayo fan) and smashed onions on the side. I'd have much preferred onion rings as these were like soggy limp noodles/strings with no bite to them. That being said, the roll was a TON of buttery sweet lobster, LOADED. My husband dove right into his fried fish platter which as enormous but the standout was the fried scallops, tender not rubbery, succulent, melt in your mouth with the great fried bite. For a kickback date night or family outing, give it a try. My son raved about the cheese quesadilla and fries. Showed up hoping to get a couple of drinks, somewhat hungry, but undecided what we may, or may not, want to eat. We walked in the outdoor seating area, found the nearest table with a little shade under it's umbrella. Next thing we know someone came to the table and basically began to give us the third degree - first, are you going to eat? We said, we thought we'd get a couple of drinks and see what we wanted from there. Next, if you want drinks in the shade there are table with umbrellas around the corner near where people enter from the parking lot - not ones that offer a decent view of the water and boats. As a note: during the conversation with this woman she made it a point to tell us it was she who seated customers, hinting we should have waited up front (where there was no "please wait to be seated" sign) So, we agreed we'd like food, we were then immediately seated... like if you want just drinks and appetizers you can't sit here. This was right around 3pm and the place wasn't the busy. Right after being seated we were told what they didn't have on the menu... as luck would have it Buffalo Wings was on the list, funny because every single time we've been to Off the Hook they are always conveniently out of the wings and today it was really early in the day on a Wednesday. What sort of bar is always out of wings? I really only know about this place because I have several friend who dock their boats there and they said it was a pretty nice place to eat and have a few drinks. They didn't mention that's only if your aren't interested in tasting their Buffalo Wings. We drove quite a distance to go out there to enjoy a sunny day outside with cocktails and appetizers... we ended up having sandwiches instead. I ordered a burger medium and it came out medium-rare... not saying that because of the lack of wings, it really was not medium. You can visit all you want. After several visits I am not entirely impressed and do not plan to go back, at least not before calling ahead to reserve a batch of 30 wings. read more

My wife and I celebrated our 28th anniversary by going to Off the hook in Fairhaven Ma. We waited to be seat about 10 minutes ( hostess was cleaning off some tables ) Place was semi busy not to say packed or crowded. We were greeted by our waitress Alex who took our drink selection while we explored the menu. My wife ordered the fish tacos on flour tortillas I ordered the lobster roll along with a clam cake appetizer. Our clam cakes arrived and they appeared to be over cooked. When we began to open and eat these clam cakes ( you have to fight to find the clams that are suppose to be in there ) Best Clam Cake Blue Point Restaurant Acushnet Ma. Our meal came my wife fish tacos and my lobster roll with fries. I ordered my lobster roll with mayonnaise. The fries looked and tasted like they were either cooked twice or they were cooked in old oil. They were cold and oily. The lobster roll that everyone says is fantastic, well i found it tasteless . It had a taste of the faint mayonnaise used in it and the lobster taste was not there. Loster should have a slight ocean taste when it is fresh not like someone washed it in the sink with tap water. I asked the waitress to return this to the kitchen for I wasn't paying for tasteless lobster roll. She return and said there is no returns on lobster rolls but would give me another item off the menu, I opted for the fish tacos of which I took home by this time I lost my appetite. In closing Our waitress was very nice and professional and did her best to make things right. As far as the cook you need to pay attention to how your food leave the kitchen. The food represents you and how you you feel about your skills . When the food taste good it shows you care and when it taste bad ( you fill in the blank) As far as the manager or who ever made the decision that there is no return on the lobster roll let me say this . Had dinner here tonight with my fiance. I ordered 6 clamcakes and was served 5 burnt clamcakes. We were not given any silverware and only 1 napkin. Waitress never came back to see how we were doing. When it was time for the bill I asked for a glass of water I never got it. I had 2 hotdogs which were also burned. The food took a very long time to come out. Wont be going back. read more

My review does consider the conditions in a pandemic. Service was still off. Way off. My friend didnt think I should give 20% tip. The mudslide was phenomenal but not worth $11paid in a disposable plastic cup. I would say $9. My friend's $9 white sangria was way to sweet and at best (had it been good) worth $7. The fish tacos came 3 to a serving, no sides. The fish was so fresh and so perfectly cooked. That being said, the 3 tacos are served on small shells and the fish took up 1/3 of the shell. Yea the amount of fish you get in all 3 could be put in one. Two nights ago I got fish tacos a few miles down the street, with fries and a LOT MORE fish, for less $$. I'm just saying. We are giving this restaurant one star just because the waitress Jessica was so sweet, and none of the things that went wrong were her fault. She was attentive, prompt, lovely, and apologetic. After waiting an hour for food (and seeing other people who came in after us get their food), our toddler was at his limit and starting to lose it (side note: he went about 30 minutes longer than we could have hoped without food). When we asked to just cancel our food because said toddler was starting to climb out of high chair, scream, throw puffs, and disrupt other people's Sunday dining experience, we were told it was ready and coming out. After another 15 minutes of waiting, the food finally came out (side note: right before the food came out, they told my husband they were out of the pulled pork he had ordered). My food (scallop tacos) were completely cold. We sent them back, and decided to share the other two meals between the three of us. Three bites into the finishing the half of the lobster roll my friend shared with me, I bit into a hair. When we pointed this out to the waitress, she also was grossed out. The Manager, on the other hand, said that most of the lobster roll was already eaten, so they would only comp us for two beverages (and take off the scallop tacos), which we didn't eat. As someone who has worked in the service industry for years, they should have comped the whole meal for how many things went wrong; as a patron, I would have been satisfied with being sincerely apologetic and comping the lobster roll. They did neither. Needless to say, we are done with Off the Hook for the season. read more

SPIT THE HOOK is more like it! Great venue. Service was horrible. Ordered drinks (which came quickly as they are machine made), but the server literally ignored us twice when we were ready to order. We were finally able to order, and she informed us that "there is no fish- we are waiting for our order." so we couldn't get fish tacos. Ok. No prob. We ordered the 2 hotdog plate with fries. We waited 40 minutes and finally the lukewarm fries and hotdogs were delivered. I declined the plate, but my daughter was super hungry and ate one of the hotdogs. A manager came out and, after telling our experience, said she would remove the food order from our bill. She did not. She removed $4 from the $12 plate. And she totally missed the point. As a nurse and former waitperson, I always give the benefit of the doubt. Could not do that today. Management might want to take some lessons in customer service. read more

While eating, a woman came up to us and asked if she could stand over us ( I think her words were "lear" over us) until we left as there wasn't available seating...yea...that's not cool. And yes, she did stand about 3 feet from us AS WE ATE. 2. All the man (my man) wanted was an ice cold Sam Adams Summer. All he got was a Blue Moon in a plastic cup. Then, the server came over and explained it was the wrong beer and finally gave him his Summer about 20 mins after he finished the Blue Moon. Neither beer was cold but was cool to say the least. The food was hot and was ok. I mean just OK. The view was good, water view but blocked by tons of boats. This place was packed after about 45 mins of our visit...I guess the locals love it. For us, we wont go back but at least we tried it! read more

I'm just writing this review to let people know that this establishment is NOT up to the hype that all these positive reviews give it. I wish my fish taco looked like what was advertised. That scallop taco was a sad excuse for anything that comes out of our local waters. What a joke !!! I mean really, look at that piece of fish that they put into the 6" tortilla...I should have easily had 2 pieces, plus the fish was prefrozen, battered deep fried non-sense. I guess for bar food, it may suffice those who are feeling a little hungry, or drunk, but I'll never come back again. I'm pissed that I spent $57.00 on food here. Onion rings are dynamite, and so was the Cheeseburger QuFrench fries were completely stale, and left over from God only knows where. I'll digress, for all reviews can, and are subjective. Went for lunch this weekend without a group of four adults. We love the location and felt that based on our previous experience there they would handle this labor shortage period With professionalism. We were seated quite quickly despite being told it was going to be a 25 minute wait. Waitress brought our drinks quite quickly and was very personable. Then we waited approximately 50 minutes for our food order to come while watching other people who came after us get served first. When We asked our server when our order would be arriving we were simply told that the kitchen was backed up. Another 15 minutes later when no other response was given other than "the kitchen is backed up", we decided to tell the manager that we would like to either pay for our soft drinks and leave or simply leave without being charged for them. She asked the waitress what we owed which was $12. I asked the manager whether or not she would like to be paid or whether or not we could simply leave without being charged for the soft drinks. Her response was the drinks are $12. That was obviously her opportunity to say "I'm very sorry about your experience and don't worry about the cost of the soft drinks and we would love to have you come again. My apologies for the wait." Nothing like that was said. Nor were we told when we came in that the kitchen was very backed up. We paid and left. However, when we were there during the previous week we were immediately told upon approaching the hostess that the kitchen was very backed up and they were not seating people until they felt they could serve them in a reasonable amount of time. Obviously that transparency and upfront dealing with patrons has been decided was not a profitable way to do things. We have been to many equivalent and nicer restaurants were a situation like this would've been handled in an extremely professional manner with apologies and possibly even a break on what was owed on the bill. Off the Hook is very unprofessional. Behavior like this will undoubtedly cause them problems in the future. They have a golden opportunity here to build a wonderful thriving business known for professionalism and caring for the client. Hopefully they will not squander it. What I do know is that I probably won't be back for quite a long time. They are no longer the only alfresco option in town. read more

Went here today. Area is nice, very out of the way. Views are nice if the weather is good. Was loud . Practically screaming at my boyfriend to talk. Prices for food and beverage were very high. Grilled cheese with tomato was 12 bucks. The tomato added the 3 dollars on top of the 9 dollar grilled cheese. I was trying to go for the cheapest meal after seeing prices. Wasn't worth the money. I am visiting from out of town and planned a lunch for a friend who was recently widowed. I wanted to treat her to a special meal. We ordered the lobster salad sandwiches and wine. Food was ok, minimal lobster. The waitress was nice but before we were even done, she asked if we could pay our bill because she was going off duty. Sure! I've done that many times to be sure she gets her tip. So when the next waitress came on, she came over and asked if she could get us anything. Yes, we will each have a wine. To which sue replied "oh I can't serve you unless you order food" we explained that we just spent $100 on food, wine and tip. She said that she could serve us if we moved to the other section! What kind of an establishment doesn't let you order a second round? Screw that! I'll never go again and since I'm here quite often I'll be sure to spread the word.
