The food was decent in this mom and pop type buisness that's been a staple for a long time in this area . It's order at the counter type buisness with super casual atmosphere . The scallops were fresh and the French fries with vingear and salt are a good addition . I just wish the food was a little more seasoned it can be kinda bland . I would go back and try again if I was in the area . read more

Too greasy, not suited for consumption, self serve. People around look like they just left Walmart!

I was so looking forward to this but it was very disappointing. They are right on the main road which is a plus. Got there about 20 past 7. They close at 8 so they said we couldn't eat in at the picnic like tables they have and we needed to take it to go. Bummer but ok. Waited a while and then brought the food back home. I got the fried scallops that came with thick fries and coleslaw. I liked my scallops ok but those fries were gross. Probably because they don't do well for take home. Coleslaw was good. My father got the fried seafood plate and thought it was way overly breaded. Probably won't return. read more

Ordered over the phone for pickup and my order was already ready for me when I arrived. The staff here are always hardworking and genuinely kind. I can easily get two big meals out of the small fish and chips because the portions are insane. The tartar sauce is hands down the best around. I always buy extra when we stop in and I'd happily beg for the recipe. This visit we also tried the clam cakes and chowder. The clam cakes were huge and clearly made with fresh clams. They were a little gritty this time, but not enough for me to deduct any stars. The chowder was perfectly seasoned and absolutely delicious. Some of the best I've had in a long time. I'm never disappointed when I come here and it's always my go-to spot for fried seafood. Everything tastes fresh, even the oil. Nothing has that old, overused fryer taste. read more

Clam cakes are to die for ! The service was quick and the staff were friendly ! Very clean, only down fall was the heat wasn't working in the dining room but still enjoyed my food. read more

As someone from Fall River new to the area i was concerned to find a new fish spot this time of year. Gene's is going to be my go to spot! Just a medium take out order by my goodness it was so good! The fish was fried to order, it was fresh, flakey not greasy at all! The woman working was kind and it's cute inside. Definitely can sit down and enjoy your meal (came in a little too late to do so) but if you are looking for a fish spot this time of year you can have this meal here too! Three large pieces of fish, fries Cole slaw and tarter sauce, and they had a lot of to go orders as well as I waited only about 5 mins. Will be seeing you again! read more

Had clam plates there last summer with friends from down south. The clams had huge bellies and tough to chew. These clams were for commercial grinding up soups etc. would not eat there again read more

Maybe ownership will see this after getting no response from an email address on the website. On Saturday August 2, I was going to the Portuguese festival with my wife. Encouraged by the proximity of Gene's, we left the festival and got to the parking lot. I pulled in at 759, doors were locked. Earlier in the day I made sure to check the website to make sure the restaurant was open, and it was until 9. Front door locked. Employee came to ask if I placed an order, I said no, he said because it was a slow evening they were closing early. I was in shock. Driving from Framingham to my favorite seafood restaurant with my wife. I was crushed. I asked the employee to respect the hours of operation and he just said to come back when we are open. Not a care. Granted, I am a creature of habit and will be back, when? Of course when they are open. Ownership should be more forthright in their contacting them on their website. read more

We ordered a seafood platter without fish, and we got a platter full of fish. We called the person that took the order and showed him the problem, and his response was that he didn't hear us. I said ok and thank you. Worst costumer service that I have ever seen in my life. Guess what he got a tip to mess up the order, hahaha, hahaha, hahaha!!! read more

My family and I can't wait for Gene's to open each spring. I've gotten seafood from them many times. The prices are decent. The portions are huge. I have never had a complaint. The dining room is a novelty in itself. Done up with picnic benches and nautical decor to add to your experience. I'm a big guy and I've never finished a plate. You've gotta check them out! read more

What excellent seafood! I highly recommend the clamboil. It cannot be beat anywhere in the area. The clamcakes are outstanding too.

I ordered 2 seafood platter with extra shrimp, extra scallops and extra clams instead cod. And small clam chowder, it came out to $92.00 That's insane . It looks like I only got an extra clams . I'm going to start making my own seafood platter for now on. read more

I saw a Facebook post from an old high school friend who went there and I decided to try it out. The seafood is outstanding, portions are good and pricing was very fair. I am not sure what they do to the clam cakes, but they were out of this world fantastic. This was a great find and I will be back! read more

Best fried seafood place in the area. Everything is amazing and fresh. Scallops, phenomenal, whole belly, clams delicious, fried fish, perfect. And love the fries. Food is fast and priced fairly. Quality is always consistently high. read more

Service was fast and friendly, the food was great. Best lobster rolls we've had in the area.

Worst fried clams ever!!!! Unidentifiable pieces of grease sold as whole clams. Pack it up and go back on vacation! read more

Gene' famous Seafood is not a swanky place but the food is great. I live on the Cape in the Summer and lunch at Gene's is worth the drive. Fish, fried clams, clam cakes, chowder, it is New England sea food as it should be and so often isn't. My wife and I first found Gene's when we lived in a local town in 1972 and have found ways to go there ever since. Wonderful fresh food, prepared when you order at a reasonable price. Forsake the ambience, eat at Gene's read more

Worst chicken Patty sandwich EVER.... This sandwich was worse than Burger King, I was dry and not even real chicken breast. Absolute garbage which is where it went. If you feel like chipping a tooth and wasting your money on a flavorless embarrassment of a sandwich then by all means eat at genes. Their seafood is no better. Go to knuckleheads or enzone and skip this place read more

The food was delicious and definitely worth the stop. The food came out quickly and I sat outside at a shaded picnic table.

I've never had a bad meal from Gene's! Brought my dad here for the first time while I was visiting and he loved it. Only took us five minutes to get our food. When we first got there, we were the only ones and by the time we left people were waiting. It's a typical casual restaurant with average noise, but you don't go there for the atmosphere. read more

Incredible seafood platter! It's enormous, with particularly impressive fish and scallops.

We have been coming here for years and it's nice to know the batter hasn't changed. It's sweet tasting over the most fresh seafood you will ever have! We tell everyone to come here and the portions are great for what you pay for. The inside has plenty of seats and they also have tables outside if the weather is nice enough and the workers are always nice. read more

I wanted to boost this place's rating because it deserves way more stars. It's been around forever and most of the people I saw eating there were older so they probably don't use yelp. We had the clam chowder and cakes and they were absolute perfection. So glad we gave this place a chance!! read more

It looks like there are new owners. Wish we knew. Clam cakes were good. The fish was definitely not the same. I bought 2 seafood platters and was just not like it used to be. Sorry read more

This is a small place off of Route 6. It's not fancy in fact they have picnic tables and benches inside. But they have very good seafood and good french fries. I love their tartar sauce it's excellent! I found the breading on the fish to be a little heavy but I still thought the fish was excellent. The scallops were big fat juicy just perfect and unlike many places these days their french fries actually tasted like potato and not a chemical. I like Gene's and I will be going back read more

Gene's Famous Seafood truly is a local gem. I've been eating here for as long as I can remember. The food is always delicious and the servings are very generous. The staff here are absolutely amazing! If you can I suggest calling ahead, especially on a Friday night. Otherwise expect close to a 20 min wait. The food and service is well worth it either way! If you can, take advantage of the outdoor seating available. Already looking forward to out next visit! read more

Service is 5 stars Prices are 5 stars Chowder is 4 stars Fried shrimp 4 stars- breaking is great, cooked great needed more seasoning. Maybe just a touch of salt would make a big difference. Fried clams and stuffed quahog 3.6 stars. Both items needed seasoning !!! Breading was great on the clams, just a hair under done. Most impressive is how non greasy was their food. If you are looking for a TON of seafood then you should definitely stop here. I ordered the fisherman's platter and I have NEVER seen such a huge plate. Three people struggled to finish it along with a large fried scallop box/clam chowder. The seafood was good- not amazing, but for what we got- I was very pleased. The scallops were enormous, the clams were of average size, and the shrimps were pretty good. I've never said this before, but we had TOO MANY scallops. We ended up taking about 7 home because we were too stuffed. Everything was breaded correctly and had a great crunch. The chowder tasted more like potato soup but it was okay. I'll be back for all the fried goodness! They also have beer and wine. ^_^ read more

Been a year since I've been here ..... Fish & Chips are now either SMALL or LARGE .... (no medium size) Small was plenty for me ...... they give 2 small pieces of fish with a good amount of fries. Clam strips are a bit pricey but delicious ..... no chewy texture like some places. The only thing missing from this place is 'WHITE VINEGAR" ...... well thats what I love on my fries ! ( to each his own).... however, if you like malt vinegar, (Like many places serve, your in luck!) Great place to recommend to tourists coming to this area. Eating is allowed inside now ...... or outside on the picnic tables. read more

Ok so genes has been around forever so I've been there many times to pick up orders since I was a teen. The food is usually pretty good BUT recently I ordered the genes seafood platter and large fish n chips. Now idk if it an isolated incident or on purpose but the portion seemed much small than usual plus the food was a little over cooked while have a wet steamed feel to it like it sat in a container to long and I only live 2 minutes away so it's not because of me. It's just disappointing because I spend all that money for a meh meal and what made it worse was my mother was visiting and never had it so I treated her since I've bragged about them to her so it made me look bad. I just hope they see this and make some changes to ensure consistency and quality. read more

Best scallops I've had in a while, and clam cakes, chowder, fried clams with bellies, and coleslaw. Adequate portions as well. Haven't been this season, but will go when weather breaks and gas prices come down. Well worth the trip to Fairhaven. Very casual atmosphere. read more

I would very rarely consider giving out 5 stars to any restaurant, but when any restaurant is the best ever in it's class, I have no choice. At Gene's you order at a counter, pay for the food, sit down at a picnic table, and wait for them to call your name. You will then get the best fried seafood in the MA South Coast. The portions are very large, so most people will have trouble eating it all. If you don't want fried seafood, don't go here, there is nothing else. They serve beer, wine, and soda from cans. None of the fancy stuff. The only thing I didn't think was top of the line were the stuffed quahogs. read more
