Cherry Canary Vintage - Watch out Beverly Goldberg!

Cherry Canary Vintage

Real deal vintage clothes up in here. We're talking the Greg Brady fringed vests and polyester…read moreshirts from the 1970s. Fur coats and porkpie hats from a time when fur coats and porkpie hats were worn in earnest and not ironically. I visited Cherry Canary around Halloween season, and there were a lot of people stopping by to look for pieces for their costumes. I can see why -- much of their clothing would make excellent costumes. But I don't see why you couldn't wear a wool sailor suit any other time of the year. You just need some chutzpah. Like a good vintage store, the clothing racks are jam-packed with clothes, so it's a little overwhelming to go through everything. But that's a good thing -- it just means they have a lot of stuff and a big selection. Everything is displayed tastefully, and they have a section for men's clothes and one for women's. They have little dressing rooms for you to try on the clothes, too, but be aware that the lighting in the dressing rooms is very dim. They also have a little corner for knickknacks and accoutrements, such as vintage luggage, glassware and planters.

First off, the shop owner here is SO nice and helpful. I mentioned the decade I was shopping for and she pulled quite a few lovely pieces down for me. The merchandise here is in great shape and I feel like I bought so many treasures while I was there. I feel like this shop has something for everyone here. I scored some 1950s dresses, and 1940s dress, and even a 1930s peignoir. The prices vary, with older items usually being priced higher. However, I think the items are worth the price because they are basically one-of-a-kind at this point and are in solid shape.

Parking isn't an issue here since the business is in Main Street Shoppes strip center. This Consignment Boutique has the tie-dye signage and fun Peace suitcases as you walk in with other fun 60' and 70's decor. I didn't ask how the consignment percentage works but I think I heard 60%/40%. I will be scheduling an appointment soon to take some of my fall pieces in for consideration. Winter items want be considered until October. Most of the items are casual to formal clothing and accessories from shoes, purses, wallets, belts and jewelry. They carry men's clothing as well as women's but not children's. Once Upon A Child and others, has that need covered. She does carry some home decor items and will be considering fall decor items soon. Most of the prices were affordable based upon the items I priced. I found several nice sports Jersey's I would have liked to purchase for my son but the prices were above my budget. Everything was well organized by sizes, clearly priced, on hangers, good quality and very few consignment items were out in the store front and those were in just a couple of containers. The staff was very helpful and super friendly. I look forward to another visit soon and finding out details for consignment of fall clothing and home decor.

I found this shop tucked away in a strip mall on the near south side of Crawfordsville and was delighted. From the moment I stepped in, I noticed the pleasant aroma of candles and the comfortable appeal of country chic decorations and gifts. The main room has the check out counter facing the door in the center of the room, so you can explore to either side: Lots of candle varieties including some made in state, lots of items with clever witticisms to make you think or smile, women's bags, wall hangings, and seasonal (Easter) pieces to add some charm to your home. And when you think you've seen it all, there is another room to the left that has even more items including rugs, lap quilts, and other cloth items. More seasonal items were out in preparation for the weekend sale. The woman who was working apologized for the store being in transition, but it was still neat enough that I wouldn't have known there was anything out of place unless she had told me. She let me browse and asked how I had heard about the shop. I was surprised that nobody had reviewed her store yet on Yelp. When I was ready to make a purchase, she immediately stopped what she was doing so that I didn't have to wait. That's a person who gets customer service. Nice selection, fun things to look at, and good service. Check this place out if you like looking for unique things for your home or as gifts. Review #3744
