Wood fire thin crust pizza--in New Zealand? Yes PLEASE! This little gem is...well...off piste located in the post office district of Arrowtown and boy was it ever good! We wandered in here looking for a bite after horseback riding and the owner and chef were a pure delight. We were blown away by how delicious yet simple the pizza was! The husband had the Pioneer's Pepperoni and I had the Mt. Beetham Veg. The pepperoni was thick, spicy, and ample! The sauce was just enough and the ooey, gooey, amazing cheese was perfection! The Mt. Beetham Veg was masterful! I posted a picture of the roasted veggies topped with caramelized onion and balsamic reduction. Our friend had the very simple Macetown Margarita pizza which is just fresh cherry tomatoes with mozzarella. You know, it's the simple stuff that has to be made right or the rest of the food just won't matter and Off Piste doesn't disappoint here either!
A regular size which is an 11' pizza is just large enough for one or you could share if you aren't famished, but the large at 15" is definitely big enough to share with 2-3 people.
This place is pretty new so there are lots of gawkers looking at the dome wood-fire ovens and we were practically dragging in those who were just glancing at the menu, unsure of whether to give this place a try. Don't hesitate..try it. You will be a believer!
To travel 14 hours by plane just to have another Off Piste pizza might be considered frivolous by some but then again, you haven't had their pizza. Great job Off Piste! read more
